Training Grounds FAQ

Post your questions about this system here.

Q: How do I post a proper thread?
A: Post an OOC post. It should contain the following information:

--Terrain Type
--Weather
--Element
--Monster You Want
--Where Those Monsters Are (Portals, Wandering)
--Who Is In The Thread
--What you want done regarding death (see third post)

Q: Can people come and go from the thread in progress?
A: No. You have to be "signed up" at the start to be in it, and if you leave early, you probably won't gain anything from it.

Q: Will Raine prevent you from dying?
A: Yes, or pull you when you do, whatever you want. Specify it when you post your thread.

Q: How long should one of these run for?
A: I'd prefer no longer than a month, two at the outset, preferably starting within a month or two of the tween-quest stuff. This is so it fits in best to where it would have it's rewards added. Something that stretches too long may invoke penalties to rewards gained, depending on what the circumstances are. Basically, I don't think you should run a constant training thread in parallel with the main quest. Rather, they should be clustered around the in-between time between quests.

Q: What are the grades based on?
A: Almost entirely on IC performance, only marginally based on post quality and such.

Q: Is there some way to alter the time it takes, so a day-long training session doesn't take a full day?
A: Think of it like this: One hour on the outside is roughly equal to four hours on the inside. This way you can do a lot of training without holding up (ic) the quest.

IC, Raine will stop us from dying if our enemies are too powerful, right?

Raine will be keeping an eye on you, yes.

Actually, she'll do what you want her to do. I'll add that to something to specify in the start-post thread; what you want done. Options include:

1) Let you ghost but resurrect you
2) Let you reach critical but heal you, partly or fully
3) Let you reach critical or ghost and pull you from the room
4) something else I haven't thought of.

Hijinx has a library of everything we've seen and fought, can she supply Raine with that information? I wanna organize something with this  .

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Raine, too, has such a library. Only hers has years more experience than yours. You're unnecessary to the process, and a hell of a lot less safe, when you think about it. If you want to organize something, do it as your own thread and, basically, don't impose it on others if they don't want to join in.

I find that most monsters lack strategy, skill, capability, and common sense. If I wanted to fight a double of myself instead, who will at least be my mirror, is that possible? Can I simulate myself here?

Hmm.... actually, I suppose so. Yes. The only thing is, it wouldn't strictly be a copy of yourself; just a well-executed program that acts enough like you, planted into a monster body formed to look like you, and given copies of your abilities. Otherwise we'd have an issue on cloning players consciousnesses and why don't we just do that to form an army, sort of things.

But fighting a clone is a decent idea, since it happens often enough in main anyways.

Oh, and what does it look like when there's no simulation being run?

It doesn't. Or at least, it doesn't matter. The door doesn't open until the simulation is started, to prevent getting caught in a half-programmed simulation or something. In the anteroom, you tell Raine your choices, she whips up the sim, and then the door opens for you.

I understand, of course, that it clearly cannot be me. Thanks for the info. I'm guessing that since it's just a well-made fake, none of its abilities, even if they mimic my Twilight abilities, are harmful in any permanent sense.

Well, it would be just as harmful as your own abilities, to an extent. Obviously, Raine isn't going to let a clone of Nall use a Time Slash and delete one of you, but it would still be an instant-death move, and so forth.

Can there be more than one simulation running at a time, speaking out of character anyway?

OOC yes, IC no. But, as I said somewhere, there's enough of a time difference between them that simulations shouldn't take very long IC.
