Re: Captured! Jailbreak of the Century

Libra went back to pacing his cell, alternating between thinking of a way out and trying to calm Baron down. The AI was growing increasingly frustrated with his host’s depressed attitude, and wondered why of all people he had to pick the one person who would descend into a melodramatic state due to something as minor as becoming part of a different world. Living in that world for all of his existence, Libra didn’t understand what was so bad about it, but again, it was all he knew. Still, there wasn’t anything horrible at all, aside from the threats of deletion that cropped up every so often. But what he knew about the human world is that they “died” too, likely meaning they were deleted by some cause they couldn’t prevent. Or maybe it was like when their HP dropped to zero in the game— they ghosted, and could be resurrected by a friend. If so, Libra could see why deletion would be so bad; a friend couldn’t revive you if you ceased to exist.

Using it as an excuse to try to calm his host down again, the AI spoke softly, the mental conversation casual. You’ll have to tell me more about this resurrecting thing as it relates to your world, Baron, if you have it. I’ve seen ‘dying’ here, and while it’s painful, it’s usually nothing more than a few minutes before someone comes and revives you and everything’s good again. What’s dying like in your world? Have you died before?

There was a wry, humorless laugh from the Twin Blade before he fell silent again, and Libra sighed. What was so funny? He had asked a simple, straightforward question, and had been treated like he had asked something stupid. A bit hurt at the mocking reply, the AI turned Baron’s body so that he was standing at the cell door again, peering out and listening in on conversations. He caught a number of names, and started applying them to voices. There was a “Sheena” who seemed to be female; there was the Long Arm “Raquar” whom Baron had met before the Juk Prison. Takua and Sekai were around as well (was Talal there too? Libra hadn’t heard anything from her, though he could have missed it), and then there was that girl named “Senna.” Listening to the conversations, Libra heard plenty of casual talk and assumed that those speaking so calmly had been through a similar situation before. In other words, they’d be most useful to get information out of, with the experience they had…

You really should give up, Libra.

Libra looked up in surprise at the voice, before his eyes narrowed in cold irritation. He straightened up for no particular reason, in the end trying to maintain a pose with some dignity, though his mutterings killed the effect. The Gemini just had to notice that his guard was down while he had the body, didn’t they? Without his screening ability in effect, Silverel and Celeste would be free to harass him for their imprisonment.

She’s right, y’know. You know as well as we do that your kid’s toast. Might as well just let it go and wait for Aries to finish whatever he’s planning.

So, you two noticed my defenses were down. What do you want and why are you even bothering?

You act as if you’re hurt to see us… and here we just wanted to rub it in how badly you screwed up, Libra.

Libra sighed. He did not need the two Gemini distracting and harassing him throughout the entire jailbreak. The AI’s distraction was fragmented enough between worrying about Baron, the escape, and his own feelings on the whole matter of the Zodiac. Adding on the Gemini would just cripple his usefulness in getting Baron out of the situation they had found themselves in, something he couldn’t afford. If the Twin Blade didn’t snap out of his funk soon, Libra wasn’t sure he would be able to do anything, and if he ended up dragging everyone down to an early grave in the dungeon controlled by the Elites… that was not going to happen if he could avoid it.

I don’t care… just leave me here and the others will be fine… and it’ll be over. There’s nothing wrong with that…

Three simultaneous responses of “shut up!” came at the exact same moment in the mental conversation, and for a few seconds, all four participants were completely silent. Then, oddly enough, both the Gemini and Libra broke out laughing. Baron went back to sulking. The three AIs shared a mental glance of sorts, before they all calmed and resumed serious business, the light-hearted banter past.

Alright, we’ll tone down for now. Sorry, being confined tends to make you sarcastic and a bit unlikeable. Anyway, if the boy gets deleted here, we’re gone as well. Though we may yet be deleted if he defeats all of the Zodiac members, maybe we’ll be able to escape then- just know that once we’re free of this cursed dungeon, we’ll be enemies again. Truce for now?

Truce for now. Now, do either of you have an idea as to how to escape?

Both of the Gemini fell silent, and Libra sighed yet again, going back to the door to watch the results of the upcoming fireworks. He could see a guard at another door further down the way, chatting with a prisoner. The AI listened to the banter… and then froze. Something was up, like he could sense something was happening. The screams and a slight wash of heat indicated something was up. Was the guard executing the prisoner? And if so, with what horrible manner? The screams were indicative of something horrific, and Libra backed away from the door, feeling a sudden wave of terror grip him.

Was it really over…?

Thank God…

Even through his terror Libra couldn’t help but reply. Oh shut up…

The teenager was mulling over his conversation with Kira and Sekai for a while after they stopped talking. He knew that Baron was across from him and that Kira and Sekai were next to him. Nighthand, Raquar and Talal were all some indeterminate distance away. He wasn’t sure who else was here, but it sounded like there were quite a bit in the cell block that they were in. He wasn’t sure if the rest of them had powers like he knew Zan, Nemera and Sidhe all had, but it sure seemed like they did…although what it was that they could do, he didn’t know. Maybe one of them could slip out and get the rest of them free…and it appeared that such an effort was indeed going on, judging by the woman out in the hallway.

He shook himself then, wondering if that was just another hallucination. Something to make him hope before it crushed him. He made a mental note to memorize every last Freedon Fighter’s face for more than just that one reason. He might need that list to make sure that someone was really a friend or an enemy.

His ears were still ringing after something had overloaded them and his brain at once, causing the squeal that Kira had heard and that he had, very simply, not even tried to explain. Too much input, or perhaps it was just random, made his senses excrusciatingly sharp, and he was paying the price because of that. Just one more symptom of his schizophrenia, fucking sensory overload to the max. He cursed under his breath as a voice whispered lightly in his ear, saying things that he couldn’t quite make out under the conversation that was taking place between the group and…an approaching guard?

Well shit, this could be interesting. Maybe one of them had some sort of ranged attack that they could do through the bars of the cell. How…well, maybe the Twilight fueled hacks (assuming that he was remembering what Gyl and Zan had said correctly) could still work in here.

His train of thought was cut off when a woman abruptly screamed into his ear, sending him jerking to the side…and proceeded to put his head straight into the cell wall. Stars flashed in front of his eyes as it were as he held his head, barely even aware of the fact that whoever it was that was screaming hadn’t stopped. Finally he came back to the present enough to make out what they were saying. It was filled with menace, scathing and disgust for the male that she was talking to, as if she would rather be doing anything in the world but talking to him right now…even as the sadistic glee in her tone said otherwise.

“JUST GO DIE WILL YOU?! You can’t do anything and you’re sitting around here just waiting for the Elites to come and carve you up! Go beg the guard to kill you right now and put an end to your sorry life!

He winced, shaking his head and then stopping when he realized just how much that fucking hurt right now. A split second later, he could hear a snarl from…Ondine? Sure as hell sounded like her. There was another female voice though, not the evil one, that popped in a split second later with a cross between dry sarcasm and concern.

“Yes, a brilliant idea Sheila, right when he can’t actually commit suicide easily and when the Elites have instructed the guard to keep them all alive. I must say, your mind is working wonders.”

“There are plenty of ways that he should kill himself by. My personal favorite would be to smash his head into the wall until it’s a bloody pulp. Would create such a delicious mess…”

“Lumina, take care of her for me, he can’t afford to be distracted.”

A dark laugh came from directly behind him and he jumped as someone placed their hands around his throat, sliding their fingers forward before tightening down on his jugular. He could feel a person leaning down, their mouth right next to his ear, their breath tickling him even as they spoke.

“They’re the most cruel though…giving you hope right before its all dashed away from you…”

He whirled, staring at the wall for several seconds before he let a deep and animalistic snarl, his fist meeting the stone in a crunch of his own bone. Pain lanced up his arm and he paused for a second or two, bringing his scratched and bleeding hand up and looked at the blood flowing out of it. Just when he got beyond the help of all of the medicine within the real world he got slammed by this. That made…what, five and Ondine then? Was Ondine even different from the rest of them? He knew the answer to that though, and it was a big yes. She was the only one that he could see, and he had no doubt that if the rest of them could control his body he’d be dead by now or have betrayed them all.

Three of them had names now. Gunner, Sheila and Lumina. Gunner and Sheila he couldn’t trust, Lumina didn’t seem to be nearly as…paranoia inducing or downright sadistic as the rest of them.

“Gee, thanks for forgetting all about me there. I don’t recall being mean to you, although if you keep up that attitude I might just change my mind.”

The deep rumbling voice was immediately followed by another one, the first male that had spoken up once he had woken up from his sleep. His head throbbed again as he remembered that, although now it was mostly from his self-inflicted injury.

“Oh sure, cause that’s gonna do so much. He’s already paranoid and a Schizo, what’s one more voice to tell him to go die, to tell him how to betray everyone, to tell him the truth that he can see?”

He muttered his response to both of them, hoping to forstall Gunner from joining in as he walked to the window, hoping to get a glimpse of an assault on the guard, something that would get his spirits up. In doing so he resisted the urge that this was all a ruse, something that would give him hope and then crush them over and over again, just as Sheila said. They were all wrong though, they were all fucking hallucinations, and that was all there was too it.

“I don’t exactly know your name now do I? Sorry for insulting you if I did so, but you are only a voice in my head now aren’t you? Now, would you all shut up for a few moments?”

“Why would we stop telling you the truth? That’s what it is you know, just the plain and straight truth.”

There was a response that soon seemed to explode into a fully fledged argument, but Takua ignored it in favor of watching what was going on outside. If there was going to be a jailbreak, something that everyone seemed to want to do, he’d need to be prepared to go. Hopefully he could cast an Ola Repth shortly, since his head now really wouldn’t stop aching and his hand was feeling more than a little bruised.

There was a lot of talking going on. From the conversation he had had with the Wavemaster a little while beforehand, there was a fresh batch of people in here, more likely than not Eventides. If they were worth anything, it would likely be a pleasant addition to their little corp. He stifled a yawn, wondering for a moment why he was yawning as he took a seat leaning against the outlook wall. He closed his eyes as he listened to the conversation swirl around him. It seemed like a jailbreak was really the only viable option, and then perhaps recuperation time. He really wanted to pursue Klive, but he had to be honest with himself. What could he do against an Elite of immense power? To be brutally honest he was going to be essentially useless against him by himself. The only people that would stand a chance were Nall, Sheena, and likely Nighthand. But if they got themselves out of here fast enough maybe they could regain some strength and they could take him out. He still wasn’t exactly confirmed about his feelings about the Elites, although if killing them would help get him out he thought it might be worth it.

He sighed as he attempted to push the troubled thoughts out of his mind. Almost instinctively he reached out to the shadows and tried to wrap himself in them. The song came, but something was wrong. It was sluggish, and it seemed like it was skipping a couple beats. It was almost as if it was being played on a scratched CD. The wisps around him reflected his inner discomfort, they flickered and guttered almost as if they were fighting to avoid being extinguished as they swirled around his body. Taking a deep breath and focusing, he split the wisps in half and sent them to each of his hands. There they buzzed around angrily, the hymn in his head becoming frantic and almost violent. Beginning to hum along with them, he slowly coaxed them into coalescing, and before long two orbs of pure darkness sat lazily in the palms of his hands. He took his time staring at them, letting himself out to them. They sat there quietly, absorbing all of his intent that he sent their way.

A scream nearby shattered his concentration and the spheres dissipated with almost a relieved sigh. That sounded like Dien but the boy had no idea what in God’s name he was screaming about, but he was grateful that it caused him to look out the grate again. He noticed that the guard had approached Senna, and seemed to be gearing up for something that probably was not good. That however, meant that the jail break was on. Retreating for a moment into the darkest corner of the room, the boy again reached out to his addiction. The song sprang up again, slightly smoother this time but still choppy. Biting his lip he forced himself to reach out harder, to pull and to tug. He needed everything he could get. Again, he sent the wisps to his hands before he formed them into his orbs. But he stopped for a moment as he tried to amplify the song. He wasn’t quite sure how to acoustically shape his mind, but he reached out to the song, tried to synchronize himself with it. And when he finally did manage to get in phase with the song, it began to echo. It bounced around his head for a bit before his entire body reverberated with his own personal melody. It was strange at first, he felt the darkness in a way he hadn’t quite felt before. It was pulling on him. Trying to suck him into it. He let himself slide slightly, and to his surprise he felt pain. It wasn’t a bad pain however, it was a pain of having too much of something. An excess. Slowly he focused the rampant energies into his hands and took a deep breath. Slowly making his way back to the peep hole, he threaded his arms through on either side of the bar and angled them as best he could at the guard. His hands bent upward before he sent the orbs of darkness spiraling off toward the guard.

He wouldn’t have to worry about hitting Senna, he could almost see the lines of the song that traced and spiraled around the room finally ending in a tangle around the guard’s torso. But he was surprised at the ripping his body underwent as he fired off his attack. He could detect the ache that centered in his gut, the momentary spike of pain that pierced through him. What was going on? This was his first time exploring the darkness to that extent, was it that caused this side effect? Or was it something entirely new? His wonderings faded with the pain a moment later as instead he glanced through his window into the hallway trying to catch a glance of what was going to happen to the guard. Hopefully it was going to be something good.

She supposed, once there was no immediate reaction from the figure, that either he was a statue of some sort or just had his back to the group and was so inured to the chatter and shouting of prisoners here that their limited commotion raised no alarms. At any rate, he wasn’t casting spells at them or shouting for backup, so for the moment at least it seemed luck was on their side. Not a bad thing, of course – Senna was still feeling like she’d come out on the wrong side of frostbite.

Everyone seemed to be here – even a few voices she didn’t recognize, or that seemed only vaguely familiar. Dien and Canti both had plans, which she was focusing on in a sort of giddy won’t-this-be-fun-now way. Both of them required the guard to come down here though, which thus far their conversations hadn’t…

Oh. Or nevermind, there ya go. He’s heading on down.

He was a sizeable wall of a man, though it took her a moment to realize that at least the vertical size was partly just perspective from where she crouched near Dien’s door. As he walked down and started speaking, she straightened up and took a few steps back toward her cell, trying to think of the ideas that had been in her mind for calling the guy out just a moment before. Ah well, weak arms, weak legs, weak mind but at least she could take a few steps… draw him down…

Then, blessedly, Dien was speaking, drawing his attention, giving her a moment to steel herself and come up with something. All the cells looked exactly the same – she had no idea how far back she’d even come. Was she in front of her cell again? No, no that was back the other way, TOWARD the guard. Not that it mattered.

She waited for Dien’s banter to wind down, and as it did, she hollered, “Hey! What kind of prison is this? First you don’t lock the door, then you chat rather than fixing things. And can I mention these clothes are terrible?Pull his attention away from the attackers, come on…

It seemed to work – at least, the move he made looked an awful lot like he intended to grab her arm – but her distraction was short-lived as a scream echoed from Dien’s cell, leading her to wince in sympathy pain. That would DEFINITELY draw attention back there. The air was getting a whole lot warmer now, and what seemed like the same moment, there was… well, a lot of fire.

(Yes, Senna would find that the Warden was in for a fair bit of talking, and alot of fire indeed. No no... We can't start out like this. Let's pull back to about the time when Dien is still talking and look in on the interior of Canti's cell. At the moment, he could not - or would not - see out anyway, because of the plan. Remember the plan? He wanted to get that guard's attention. And why not? It worked both in his favor and Dien's, who needed the distraction from himself. Therefore, while Dien was speaking, Canti shoved himself into one corner of his room to make it as hard as possible for the guard to look in on him. The less he could see the Twin Blade, the better this would be, especially if he tried to get a closer look... After shoving himself as far as possible, he set his plan in motion. Putting a little strain in his voice, like a wounded soldier, Canti spoke out to the enemy hacker.)

Canti: Hey...Warden. I-I wanna make a deal. I have information you could use. It'll please your superiors. You could say you beat it out of me... So cold... I can't feel anything... C'mon... Help a guy out. We're all survivors in the end...

"Hah. If I wanted information, I would beat it out of you."

(The response was somewhat smug, but he'd gotten the man's attention, at least. That made part of this work out. He didn't hear him moving, though, or not much. Maybe he wouldn't, since He and Dien's cells were pretty close. Canti made himself sound more desperate to reel the fish in a little further. It was sickening, but he did it.)

Canti: Well, what do you want? I don't wanna die in this hole, or become a slave! You can't blame me for fighting... I didn't have a choice! But as it stands...I'd be willing to enlist, if it will get my ass out of the fire.

"Willing to enlist, eh? What's your name?"

(What the hell?! Did he REALLY just buy that line?! The Twin Blade's eyes shot open in surprise when he heard th guard actually considering it. This guy couldn't have been very bright, though there were definite indications that he was stubborn and callous. He decided to continue along this line of conversation and see where it took him, if anywhere.)

Canti: ...Canti. Hey, do you have anything restorative? I think this cell is anti-me.

"Well, Canti, you're right about one thing. It is anti-you. That's how they're made. I'll relay your... request, and we'll see if they find you worthy."

Canti: It feel's cold...and my element's fire. Can I just have a health drink or something? Like I said...don't wanna die. Just for my piece of mind, if nothing else.

"Health drinks won't do a thing for you, even if I had one to give you."

Canti: Repth? Rig Saem? Don't leave me hanging, dammit!

"Haha... You're not hanging, yet."

(Canti deadpanned at the pun.)

Canti: Oh, gee, thanks. By the way, I really hate talking to a wall here, but unfortunately, your cell has got me constricted. If you're really gonna do this, I wanna see who it is I owe. You don't want someone else taking the credit, and I don't wanna back the wrong benefactor, ya follow?

"Don't worry about it. Redeeming a prisoner is reward enough."

(Was this guy serious? Okay, this wasn't working. Time to change the venue just a tad...)

Canti: Heh, a modest warden. Now, I've seen it al- HLLGCK!! AAAAAAAUGGGHHH!!!

(There was suddenly a distinct wretching sound, followed by a scream of pain. This was not exactly faked. More like...it was induced. The Warden wouldn't know that the Twin Blade had had this sort of thing linked with the darkness in him. It was a side-effect. Canti had hurled up a black substance and a number of spikes and horns slid out of his body. He'd been holding that back as a last resort, his transformation now coming about because of his recent charge-up. The virus didn't like this place, so it was pissed. Unfortunately, this didn't get any reaction from the guard. Well, fine then! Who needs ya?!)

Canti: Okay, that's long enough. Dien HAS TO be ready by now.

(If the Warden wouldn't make the first move, then he would. Swiftly, and using his instincts to zero in on the direction of his target, Canti pointed his hands out the hole suddenly in the style of a Hadoken attack, only what it did was let off twin columns of pretty much his entire energy pool for the Darkness Flame. The Warden would find that his prisoner was not feeling pathetically weak or even dying, but more or less demonizing. He had a number of black markings and sharp-looking spikes jutting from his body, as well as black claws from his fingers. The face was the worst. In addition to the black pits for eyes, there were jagged monstrous teeth and the expression being contracted into something inhuman with pointed ears. With luck, his horrific visage would be the last thing he sees...before he and Dien both blasted him with everything, their attacks coodinated with Senna having the best seat in the house to view the conflagration. Just remember: Canti DID warn her to duck.)

This may have been a poor idea.

The orbs were never particularly easy to control in the first place, but today just feels plain ridiculous. Splitting into his aura at full health doesn't help either. Since each orb represents a tiny fraction of his hit points, this time he's split into over a hundred of them, more orbs than he's split into in a long time. With his powers sluggish, control over them is even less apparent than usual. The orbs on the ceiling scatter almost completely randomly, the flame element taking over most of the scattered lights, coercing them to float lower off of the ceiling as they sense flames forming from the cells below.

No no nononono! Back together! Together! Together!

If anyone on the team cared enough or even had the vantage point to notice the orbs on the ceiling, they would notice them warping back and forth, trying to spread to the flames and at the same time trying to pull back to a focus point. It's almost like watching a ten minute clip of the big bang looping backwards and forwards. Of course there's no way to control the boosting the aura provides. Flame powers coming from Dien's cell burn brighter, each orb pulsing soft red waves into the air to fuel the attack, making the entire corridor look like it's built under a ventilation shaft from hell. Not exactly the subtle escape plan Lighteria was envisioning when he made the split. Admittedly, the only reason he had popped into a Vak aura was because it happens to be the one element he's has the most experience forming into... this makes at least the fifth time he's used it after all. Also, what little the twin blade can sense while split only increases his worry. After all, after bungling around in the cells he sort of figured that the only person with any spell casting ability are the people who run the bloody place. Considering just how... eagerly the orbs are gravitating towards the spell, it has to be backed by a pretty hefty amount of power. Enough to tear them away from the twin blade's will and go off on their own little flamey excursions around the spell area, just swarming like fireflies and pulsing red into air.

It's pretty clear so long as the fireworks are going off, Lighteria is completely at the element's mercy with his powers so darn sluggish feeling. Even with a scattered consciousness he quickly realizes that there's no way he can reform himself into his normal body again until the magic has quelled and the element has nothing to be attracted to. It's VERY frustrating for him, assuming that he's probably helping an elite torch one of his friends while at the same time revealing himself in aura form. It's by sheer, frustrated force of will that the twin blade manages his reformation as fast as he does, though it doesn't happen until long after the spell diminishes. The orbs hastily retreat back into one point and start crackling with energy again, the twin blade's body reforming in a veil of red and flames.

Of course, this point happens to be above the warden… on the ceiling.

Which he promptly falls from.

With a belly flop.

Wind was whistling through the mountain of large earthen rocks, precariously stacked long ago to protect against the power of the waves. Seagulls were flying above singing their song of the ocean. Grass reeds that provided shelter to some of the smaller creatures of the beach, rustled in the wind with a rather serene and hypnotizing sway to them. This would be the only thing she would miss out of it all…her sanctuary. Could she find such a place in a digitalized world? If so, would it feel as calm and peaceful as the real thing? How long would she be stuck in The World? If these so called Freedom Fighters won their battle with the Elites and what remained of the Eventides back in that dungeon somehow managed to defeat the Highers, would they all be returned to their lives outside? Would they perhaps be given a choice? A choice to stay and not go back? Would she rather stay and die in a digitalized world in a war she really knew hardly anything about, then be thrown back into a world that could only give her physical life? There was no one there that would notice she was even gone, aside from possibly her cousin and even he wouldn’t notice right away. Only one thing stood in the way of whether any of her thoughts would even matter for much longer. She needed to be found. She closed her eyes and let the wind swirl around her, blowing through her hair and taking all of her cares of the real world high up into the atmosphere to dissipate and be forgotten.

There was a lot of chatter going on throughout the corridor, many voices she didn’t recognize. One sounds vaguely familiar, only perhaps deeper and without feeling but then again, it could just be another new face she has yet to see. Talal scooted over into the corner and brought her legs up close, wrapping her arms around them and resting her head on her knees. It was cold and she was sparsely dressed to boot, most likely suffering the same torment of dress as everyone else. The less amount of skin that was open to the air, the warmer she would stay, or at least that was her theory.

Sekai and Takua were arguing and the young girl couldn’t help but shake her head and grin at the irony. He was taking the exact same stance with Sekai as Talal had with him back before she had found out about the Eventides and the dark secrets that The World held. The girl wished she could just look into his eyes and smile right then and he would know exactly what was going through her mind. But alas, she couldn’t do that at the moment and the moment to seize would be lost forever.

She let them both finish and quiet down, which also gave her time to think. They were arguing the same thing just from different vantage points. There had to be something she could say, but then again people, herself included, get stubborn when cornered or faced with what they know is true but insist on taking the blame. She prepared her mini speech in her mind and could only hope she wouldn’t get verbally bitten for trying to help. In as calm a tone as she could muster given her own mental state at the time, Talal spoke up from the shadows of her cell.

”Sekai, if I may…you know he’s right. We all make our own choices and although you can try to guide us along what you feel is the right path for us, the choice is ours and ours alone to make. Look at yourself. I know you put yourself in the same position as we do when it comes to those you care about. You wouldn’t care if they gave you permission or not. You would do what you feel needs to be done. We’re no different. We are here because we chose to be and by doing so, we claim complete and utter responsibility for ourselves and our actions. Please, don’t beat yourself up over something you had absolutely no control over. We all knew the risks and we came anyway because it was the right thing to do. Besides, you should also know that deep down, you would rather have people you can trust watching your back than a bunch of strangers…wouldn’t you?”

It was a long moment before Sekai replied, her voice weary and more than a little trace of defeat within her soft tone. "The circumstances are completely different for everyone else than they are for myself, Talal-san." She went quiet again. "The people who still believe 'The World' is a game... they should be allowed to believe that and not be informed differently. It's the responsibility of those who know it isn't to protect those people."

A heavy sigh escaped the young dark haired girl before responding in the same calm tone as before. "I completely agree with you. Just remember, people are smarter than we often give them credit for. Regardless of how hard we try to protect them, they will eventually figure things out on their own. Some will run and hide and others such as ourselves will stay and fight. Personally, I'd rather be informed than left to blunder through the darkness. I'm not judging your outlook, I respect the position you take. I'm simply trying to help you see it through a different set of eyes." Admiration and a smile were evident in her tone at the end.

An eerie note filled the young girl's voice for a moment, as if she knew something. "After this, the world will never be the same and we'll be changed in ways the others won't understand." She paused for breath. "Knowing that, would you still choose to know the truth over enjoying something that was supposed to be a mere game?"

Not that anyone could tell, but the girl grimaced slightly at the tone of the young Archer's voice and wondered what thoughts that were going through her mind would cause such a tone, but only one answer rang true in her mind.

"Yes."

Nothing further came from Sekai and the Twin Blade wondered what, if anything, Kira might have to say to her for the intrusion. For whatever reason, she felt it wouldn’t be good, but then again she and the female Long Arm seemed to usually be on the same note at least in casual conversation. It was going to have to be one of those wait and see things.

Talal had been surprised that somewhere in all of that, Takua hadn’t interjected but truth be told, he hadn’t so it left the girl with one last thing to say before she retreated back into silent thought. Something egged at her that she might get caught up in whatever may happen with all the talk of a jailbreak and she’d forget the one necessity that was really only important to her.

Takua? Now isn’t the right time but there is something I need to speak to you about. If we manage to be face to face anytime in the hopefully near future, will you remind me there was something I needed to ask you? I would have sent you a message but that obviously doesn’t work at the moment.” She laughed slightly, hoping it would hide the seriousness of her thoughts.

Knowing the Wavemaster, she was fairly certain that her request would have caught him a little off guard. There was strain to his voice, she assumed from the headache they were all suffering from and was apparently hitting him harder perhaps. ”Sure, that sounds fine to me. Anything that you can tell me now or…?”

The item behind her question and the thoughts that surrounded it came instantly flooding back. She had managed to push them aside to be calm to talk with Sekai but it wasn’t taking anything at all for those brief walls of calmness to once again crumble. She was filled with uncertainty and fear of upsetting him as she stumbled and stuttered through a response; a reaction that through all of their heated arguments had never occurred.

"No, n-not really. I-it's n-not something I care to yell down a hallway. I'd rather wait."

Well that wasn’t exactly how she wanted it to come out. He would for sure be able to see through any kind of strong front she had originally managed to portray, if any at all. Confirmation came with the obvious concerned tone in his voice.

”O…kay. Well, if we get a moment, you can tell me, alright? Until then, relax, and get ready for anything and everything. Okay?”

She nodded before realizing that he couldn’t see her and quickly followed it with something he could hear.

”Okay.”

Looking out the small hole in the wall, all Talal could see was the ceiling and the upper portions of the cells across the hall. There were a lot of scattered floating red lights bouncing along the ceiling. They seemed to have no particular direction, yet they appeared to try and stay in somewhat of a group. It was odd, but mesmerizing at the same time. The Twin Blade stared at them for awhile before she realized there was a guard in the hallway. He was talking with some of the others in the cells, but he also said something that made her ears perk up a bit. Someone was out of their cell and roaming the hallway.

Quickly she got up and tried to see what was going on. She thought she caught a glimpse of another female at the other end of the hall, but her view and angle wasn’t the greatest. Then a scream sounded that sent her hands flying to cover her ears and she immediately backed away from the window like hole in the wall. The hallway was bright all of a sudden. Takua had said to be ready. Was this the beginning of what he was meaning to be ready for? Who was screaming and why were they screaming? Somehow, screaming didn’t fit into her realm of thinking in regards to a jailbreak. Sneaky and silent seemed to fit better in her mind when paired with escape.

She huddled herself away back in the farthest corner from the opening…and waited for a miracle. One that she hoped would include her cell door blasting open sometime soon.
Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Walk beside me that we may be as one.

Nighthand forced open his scarred-over eye and the starry field underneath displayed to him the vibrant field of elements around him. There was something intense about it all, almost blinding, the force of nature lying just below the surface of the world. There was something subdued, though, some haze between himself and the elements. That must be what Sheena was talking about, whatever suppression field was in place. Without it, the heavy blade feared he might go blind.

Abruptly Danielle appeared and informed him that now was the time. Not that Nighthand needed to be told; the abrupt flaring up of the elements before him told him that. He ignored the darkness; Raquar and Canti letting off their shots would have been the ideal to snag, but their power wasn’t approachable enough for him to tweak. Dien’s was much closer to a spell, and so it was the fire that he reached out for. (20)

He took hold of the fire and throttled it back, holding it and powering it up, keeping it from bursting forth for moment after moment. Raquar’s darkness orbs and Canti’s Flame struck the Warden and… nothing. The orbs splashed over his skin like water balloons, and the flame bathed him without seeming to touch his form.

The warden turned to face Canti’s cell, seemingly not having even notice Raquar’s attack.

“I thought so. I don’t have to fear any of you; the suppression field and my own shield are enough to stop anyth-”

The warden’s words were cut short at the same instant Nighthand lost his grip on Dien’s power. Erupting from Dien’s cell came an explosion of fire, a rocket engine blast from the single small window. Rather than grow and dissipate, though, the fire narrowed as though through a funnel. It circled almost in slow motion once, then twice, a third time, the air growing hot and filling with a screeching whine. Then, the coil of fire released, a needlepoint thread of white-orange energy, directed at the Warden.

The guard had enough presence of mind to look surprised as the point of fire struck and pressed. It kept its shape, driving against the shield the Warden wore. It skittered and scraped against the invisible shield, and the screech intensified, like a drill boring into metal.

With a sharp crack, the shield gave way… but at the same instant, the fire lost it’s shape. The Warden’s protection was gone, but he was washed in warmth rather than run through by a beam of death.

The Warden’s look of surprise turned to fear as his shield cracked and broke, and then to a grin of pure ego as the fire still barely grazed him.

“Is that all you have? YOU are what they feared?! HA! Even I could destroy you all right no-“

Lighteria, human formed once again, landed heavily and uncomfortably directly on the head of the Warden. The twin blade had the wind knocked out of him as they both fell to the floor, but the impact hit the Warden at just the right angle. The Warden’s neck twisted terribly, and he fell, first his body then his head striking the ground underneath Lights. He was, as the twinblade would find upon standing, no longer breathing. His neck twisted, his head concussed, the man simply had the bad luck to not be prepared to take someone falling on his head.

So… now they were left with two loose members, Senna and Lights, one dead Warden, and no idea what next.

The fire was intense, and it took out the guard’s shield, but it didn’t take out the guard – a fact which caused him to puff up, figuratively. And why not? He seemed to have beaten the spells that they’d been counting on to free them. She wasn’t sure what they were going to do now, though his shield was down. Maybe Canti…

But before that thought could form any more fully, the answer fell out of the sky – literally. In the form of Lighteria, who seemed to have formed right over the warden’s head and fallen right onto him, driving the latter to collapse heavily to the ground. Senna let out a little squeak of surprise. Where had he even come from? Her awareness was significantly slipping.

The progression would have been comical if the situation were less serious. First seeing the fall register, then that he had landed atop someone, then that the someone was not precisely in working order again. Then… then a bit of a spaz. Fear, panic – she was terrible at reading that sort of thing and didn’t want to apply one or another without more to go on than her observations. But before she could say anything, he noticed her presence and the whatever-reaction stopped. A moment passed and his face went a rosy, blushing red. Another, and he was smiling – odd enough – but odder still was he had his eyes shut for the moment. Then he offered her an awkward wave.

Hi Senna

Uh… hi… Lighteria. You okay?” She stepped forward and held out a hand to help him up.

For a moment, it was like she was offering to help up one of two bodies. With eyes shut tight, Lighteria didn’t seem to notice her gesture at first. If she hadn’t seen him spaz a moment before, she would have been seriously worried for his health. As it was, she waited patiently a few seconds more.

And was rewarded as he cracked one eye open. And then he flailed a moment, nearly startling her into jumping back, before accepting her help up. "Ah- y-yes! I'm fine! Fine."

You’re sure? And how did you DO that?

"Ah. That. Er..." his hand waved in front of him like a propeller. "I'm pretty sure I fell on him the wrong way... Heard a neck crack... I think I might have grabbed his head accidentally."

Not really what she was asking - it was more about how he appeared in midair, though there had been those orb things... - but she wasn’t in a state to press the matter. There were more important things to deal with. “Ah. Yikes. Uh… not to sound heartless, but we better search him?

He pointed at her as if to say 'good point', looked at her and immediately looks back to the guard. "R-right.. Escaping." He knelt down and waved lightly to her. Then, sucking in his gut, he said, "I'll.. check his pockets.

The check turned up little. Senna found the item on his wrist came free easy enough, but putting it on had no real effect. Removing it and holding it up in two fingers, she asked, “Huh. Any ideas?

Lighteria watched the item curiously and poked at it. "W-well ...Apart from swinging it around, no... Maybe poke the cell doors with it?"

Makes sense,” she admitted. Slipping it on, she leaned over to the nearest door. Touching its surface did nothing and reaching through the handle did likewise nothing except make her feel foolish. "Huh." she repeated.

Lights frowned at the not-having-it-workitude of the bracelet and stood up straight, scratching his head. "Maybe there's something we're not seeing... " He glanced back and forth. "I guess I can check the hallway for something..."

I think… can’t hurt?” She glanced back and forth. “Came from that way, right?” She gestured the way she THOUGHT was right with the gloved hand. She was still getting crossed up.

"Er... not sure. I was kinda... not all together at the time."

Ah… right.” Her turn to blush now. She didn’t really understand what he did, but now wasn’t probably the time to ask. But he certainly hadn't just been loitering out there like she had. Where WAS her head? “Yah. This way, I think.

He nodded in that direction and coughed. "I'll go look around if you wanna mess with that thingy some more."

Sounds good,” she said, nodding back.

As he headed down the hall, she contemplated the glove again, then once more tried pushing on the nearest door. Nothing. Pushed harder. Still nothing. Glaring, she balled up her fist and punched.

Ghhhh!” Not her shining moment. For a few seconds she danced around, one hand clutched in the other as waves of pain from her knuckles chastised her for her poor choice of actions. She followed that up by flashing the finger at the door. Then, taking a deep breath and trying to calm herself down, she grabbed the bar in the center and pulled.

Nothing happened. Or… wait. Did it just… move? Frowning, she gripped the bar again and this time tried turning it. To her surprise (she was beginning to think it reacted to intelligence and decided she was just too stupid to listen to) the handle turned 180 degrees beneath the pressure of her hand. Then, with a hiss, the door slid to the side. Surprising, huh? When you turn the knob, the door opens. No wonder it took her so long to figure out something so complex and obscure, the sarcastic part of her mind commented...

Woah. Lighteria!” she hissed down the hall. Then she moved to the next door, opening that as well, then the next. Time to get OUT of this place.

She hoped.

He had a terrible angle to see exactly what was happening, but he heard a crunch and a snap and decided that the sound was beneficial enough, and sure enough a few moments later, Senna slid his door aside. He looked up at her slightly surprise, but extremely grateful. He expressed his gratitude with a quick word and a nod as she moved down the line. He stretched, ignoring the breeze that he felt sifting through his legs. He turned to the right, down to the hallway and the now two open cells that housed the powerhouses of their group. He cast a brief look at Sheena before turning his attention to the Blademaster. He looked like hell. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that he was seriously not in a good place, and it wasn’t brain surgery for the boy to stoop down and try to help him up.

What he didn’t expect was for Sheena to already be there and place a restraining hand on his chest. His eyes followed hers back to a closer look at Nall. He was literally in tatters, not just his clothes, but his entire body was. He was covered in cuts and scars that didn’t look healthy. Parts of his body looked grayed and worn out, other parts looked almost completely transparent. It was not good. He glanced toward Sheena.

”We need to get him to Raine as fast as possible?”

He watched as Sheena began to touch the questionable parts of his body, and slowly they started to recolorize, seemed to make him more whole. It wasn’t a super fix by any means, but it was a patch job, and it was a decent patch job. And hopefully it would do.

”I have as much experience patching him up as she does, and we might need him before we can get to her. Probably will, in fact." She touched his forehead gently and he seemed to shudder as he opened his eyes. He looked back at Sheena.

"I know you may not be completely comfortable with this idea, but to be blunt, you're going to be worth more in a fight than most of us here. Push come to shove you might be our best bet for getting out. Do you want me to help him out of here? Support him?"

Nall rolled over. ”I’m . . . good. Just . . . protect me. While I repair.” He could do that. Sheena stood during Nall’s statement.

”You’re going to need me at point, you’re right. Besides, I know where we are.”

That was good to hear at least. He nodded. "I can do that. I'm gonna head down the hall a bit to see if I can find some gear. I'll be back in a second, and at that point yeah, I'll provide the escort service."

He turned around and paced down the hall, ignoring the cells and the people for the most part at the moment. Which side was it? He stopped and went back to Nall and Sheena. He addressed the Fist Fighter. "So this is bigger than I thought. I'll let you lead us out of here Sheena. I'll watch Nall."

Nall stood, very shakily, but managed to stand. He took a haltering step, and then another before the boy had to intercede, supporting the Blademaster, getting him back on his feet. He watched Sheena stride off, speaking to Senna. It was with confidence and for a moment the boy felt a small sense of relief. They were getting out of here. He looked at Nall, and decided to be helpful. He slung the older man’s arm around his shoulder and supported the brunt of the Blademaster’s weight. Hopefully that would make it easier for him to walk.

"Gyah!" Is all Lighteria manages to get out when gravity takes a hold of him again. The tumble from the ceiling sends him into a typical 'Oh dear god I'm free falling' state of mind. His arms flail for the few seconds he's in the air and immediately latch on, lamprey-like on the warden's head and shoulders. It's less of a wrestling hold and more like a grip for dear life. Regardless the two tumble to the floor, the twin blade collapsing on top of the warden who lands in a rather odd lean. Lighteria's panicky clutch on his head doesn't sway in the least, even as the warden's head tilts backwards, twists oddly and lets out a strange sounding crack. His grip weakens only when the movement stops and he allows himself to blink a few times with a confused look on his face. Though clearly jostled from the fall, he looks down at the warden and swallows, noting his lack of a pulse, glassy eyes and the whole not breathing anymore thing. He gasps and flails around momentarily, checking for any signs of life even though there's clearly none. His heart starts beating faster from the thought of having possibly killed another person, this feeling assuaged only somewhat by the fact that he was perfectly willing to kill THEM. His flailing and checking for life abruptly ends though when he notices Senna nearby. He looks up, notes her concerned look and then immediately notes her outfit.

Now there's an interesting point. Why did I think they would only change MY clothes? -Oh geez Jai, shut your eyes and stop staring! Dear GOD I'm embarrassed right now! Gah, stop being silent and weird!! Just- just smile and wave!!!

"Hi Senna."

Luckily for the twin blade he makes it through the conversation without utterly embarrassing himself. Yes, even if the Elites manage to kill him, he can still call this a victory if just for that fact. It is with that boost of confidence that Lighteria briskly searches the hallway in the direction where the guard came from, arching his head towards each barred window to see what's inside.

Empty cell... empty cell... empty cell... empty cell... and oh gee, look: an empty cell. This place is bigger than I thought... and every freaking door in this hallway is locked. And there are a LOT to try out ...Damn it, I was kinda hoping I could at LEAST find our freaking clothes.

His ear perks when he hears Senna hiss from down the hall. He turns and rushes back as fast as his bare feet can carry him, skidding to a halt when he sees her busily opening up doors. The twin blade lets out a sigh of relief and cracks his first genuine smile of the day. "Good job." He says very quietly, waiting for more people to be let out before speaking at any sort of loud volume.

"This h-hallway extends a long, long ways." Lighteria says loud enough for most of the group to hear clearly. "And.. frustratingly, there no sign of our outfits either."

As his door opened, the archer simply bowed his head in thanks and walked out, amazed at the escape so far. The initial attacks succeeded in very little, but the team attack of Nighthand and Dien was much more impressive. It was at least enough to pierce the guard’s protective barrier even if it couldn’t finish the job on its own. Lighteria’s victory was almost comical, such a weird and probably unplanned attack. His abilities were more flexible than the player had noticed in the past. Still, the party would be in poor shape if an entire squadron of enemies were to close in. Then again, Auth was unable to tell whether or not personal powers were still being reduced like before, or if that was strictly a restriction to those inside of a jail cell.

That was easy enough to answer. Rayo turned to Nighthand and quietly asked. Since no sort of collars were on them, and the clothes really didn’t seem to serve any purpose outside of annoying them, in theory he should hear a good answer.

“Are your powers working any better now that we're slightly less imprisoned or are we in pretty much the same hole, just together?”

Nighthand seemed to consider his question, closing his eyes and perhaps attempting some sort of mental image or whatever it was that he did. Everyone had their own method of calling upon their powers, at least he did. Blue magic for Auth consisted of a menu screen, like a page torn from a book. You could keep on rereading it to access the information, but once you flipped the page it was gone and destroyed.

"Hard to tell without an actual test, but I think they'll be easier to control. I think they're only suppressed in the cells."

"I was hoping as much. Guess I'll scout around a bit while we wait for everyone to get sorted out."

With that he set off, walking further into the wing of the place they seemed to be stuck in. Additional reinforcements would more likely come from the other way, so for a currently combat disabled player, this seemed like a much smarter direction to go. The bowman glanced through the one opening each cell possessed one at a time, checking for any players, equipment, items, or anything really. Eventually he found one.

Judging by the delightful prison garb, it was a guy. He had blue and white hair, with some of it braided in the front. Combined with looking like a ghost because of his skin color, the prisoner seemed very odd. Given how The World allowed for quite a variety of design however, it didn’t mean very much to Auth. Instead the archer prodded him with a question. He wasn’t going to ask Senna to open the damn cell up until he thought it was safe.

"You okay in there?"

"Perfectly fine. As far as things go, you know."

Sarcasm. Well, it was preferable to a crazy man screaming to be let out this instant. Still, he seemed less upset than Rayo would have come to expect of anyone who had been locked up here for any length of time.

"Understandable, how'd you end up in here?"

"I failed to take the proper precautions, and failed to utilize your distraction. Or rather, they saw through it, unlike what I had hoped."

Did he mean their escape? No, that was unlikely. That would imply that either he believed their group would not help him, or that he was only imprisoned during that moment. In other words, he was referring to the rescue of Nall, right? How did he even know about it?

"Our distraction? I don't believe you mean right now. Who are you exactly? What did you actually do to end up as a target for the Elites?"

"What, don't you recognize me, Rayo? Oh, I suppose I do look different now." He cracks his neck and looks at you through the bars. "whaT abouT noW?" he shakes his head. "Hard to use the voices in here. Surprised they left them for me."

"Honestly, I had considered it, but I was hoping it wasn't you. So Marionette, now even you were made a prisoner. The Elites must have been busy today. Who ended up grabbing you?" The archer turned his head down the hall and called out to the rest of the team. "Hey, we've got our favorite puppetmaster down here if you want to say hi."

"Do I detect a hint of subtle hostility? I have nothing to hide anymore. I'm on your side, and since my subtle sabotage and escape route didn't work, I may as well join up. I'm sure Nall and... who is it, Sheena, here? They won't mind." he laughs. "It was Garaa. Bastard didn't even care about you guys when he saw the hubs blow up, he just watched me."

"So all in all, that accounts for four of the jerks. I wonder if any of the others were out hunting. Don't worry, you'll be out soon enough. I'd just feel better if everyone knows you're here before I release the person who enjoyed testing and toying with us. So while we wait, know of anyone else locked up here? More new victims, administrators, puppies?"

Auth wondered how much power the hacker would have at his disposal once he was loose. Enough to teleport out of here? If Marionette did, Auth needed to be sure it was their escape route as well.

"Oh I'm sure they have a whole wing dedicated to puppies somewhere. This place is pretty massive. They keep it that way despite never having many prisoners; intimidation factor. Anyways, the cell across from mine is occupied, but I dunno who. He won't talk."

Yet another body. Hopefully whoever was inside wasn’t dead already.

"Fair enough, but maybe he just doesn't like hackers. You might be the reason he's in here." Rayo walked across to the cell in question and knocked. "Hey, are you okay in there?"

Noises were made, but nothing that signified speech.

“Just to be sure, please knock on the door twice if you’re simply mute. Remain silent if you’re a jerk, deaf, or a puppy.”

Nothing. Personally, Auth was hoping for puppy.

The screaming had stopped, and everything had fallen quiet. Libra waited quietly, wondering what fate awaited him. The heat hadn’t gone down, and he wondered at what had happened. Had the guard killed one of the prisoners? And if so, by what method had he done so? The AI was a bit worried- if the captives were being killed now, how soon would it be his turn? If he was killed, and Baron was comatose… what happened? Libra started to sweat, pacing his cell, before he detected- no, detected wasn’t the proper word, more like sensed- twin surges of power that tried to lash out. Looking out the cell window, he saw the guard assaulted by night-black flames and wisps of shadows, both emanating from different cells.

The AI blinked, trying to figure out what was going on, and made the connection quickly- the comatose players. Aside from Sekai, Zan, Nemera, and Sidhe, Baron hadn’t yet met anyone else in that state, but someone had mentioned a group fighting against the Elites, and Libra easily put two and two together. This group that fought against the Elites was clearly made up of comatose players, which explained the odd powers that were being revealed. Unfortunately, these abilities seemed to bounce off of some invisible shield surrounding the guard, rendering them useless. Libra’s heart sank as he watched the twin attacks be dispersed so easily, and he leaned against the wall, wondering if it really was over.

A burst of heat and light told him otherwise, and the AI looked up against, surprised, as a beam of searing flames, narrowed and focused to a point, stabbed into the guard. Upon contact, the fire seemed to drill against whatever protection that their captor seemed to have, fighting against it and trying to break through. There was a clash of powers for a moment, before a stalemate occurred- the shield broke, but the flames were all but gone, leaving the guard unharmed. Libra swore under his breath, having placed hope in that attack. Well, the shield was gone, maybe another member of the group could-

Crack.

Libra watched in surprise as another male, a prisoner by his outfit, fell from the ceiling, landing atop the guard. Where had he come from? Well, that was a question for later- looking at the guard, it was clear that he hadn’t expected someone to drop in on him, literally. Whatever shield had been protecting him was truly gone as the falling body landed atop him, and a sickening crack indicated something was broken. Wincing, Libra looked through the bar to see the guard’s neck at an odd angle. Yeah, he was definitely dead. But what would that do? Unless the two prisoners out in the hall- Senna and now this new arrival- knew how to open the doors, most of the group was still trapped.

Libra, pay attention. That girl seems to have the trick of opening it already figured out, look.

The AI peered through the barred window of his cell and realized that Senna seemed to have actually discovered the means to opening the doors, using the guard’s gauntlet and the bars on the doors. So they weren’t really bars, they were a handle of sorts. Clever. Libra waited patiently, now that escape seemed more immanent, and soon enough his cell was opened, allowing the AI to direct Baron’s body out the door. Soon he stood in the corridor among the other players who had been released from their cells. Looking around, Libra immediately recognized Sekai, Takua, and Talal, and even Raquar was a slightly familiar sight, even only from their brief meaning. But there were plenty of strangers, too. However, there was no time for introductions- for now, they had to escape the prison. When everyone was safe, then there would be time to talk.

Silverel spoke softly, an almost concerned tone to his words. Baron’s been quiet for a while, think he’s doing better?

Surprised, Libra took leave of the body for a moment, leaving it leaning against a wall rather than fall over completely, delving inward to check on the Twin Blade. His mind seemed calmer, that was certain, but the AI couldn’t tell if he was simply relaxing and getting over the initial shock or what. Worried, but unable to do anything while there was still danger about, Libra went back to controlling the body, drawing on his Zodiac data that made up Baron’s character to allow him to merge with it and take hold. Breathing out a sigh as he sat up, the AI looked around at the group, trying to discern the leaders. Only one immediately caught his eye- a woman talking with Raquar. Her stance spoke of confidence, her expression was focused. She was definitely a leader. Walking up to her, Libra spoke calmly.

“I take it you’re the leader of this group. So, what’s our next move?”

Re: Captured! Jailbreak of the Century

The simplicity of getting the cell doors open made both Sekai and Kira want to kick themselves for not thinking of it to begin with. Yep, definitely needed to do a little more thinking outside the box, the AI thought with a frown as she slipped out. A ghostly form taller than Sekai by nine inches or so who stood examining the rest of the cells and passed them by just as quickly, wanting to get the layout of the area so she knew where to sit.

Sekai herself slipped out quietly, embarrassed not only by her own clothing but by the, err, essential lack there of for the individuals of the opposing gender... which happened to be, well, everyone except for herself, Kira, Senna, Talal, Sheena and Raine. Carefully keeping her eyes averted as much as possible- staring at the floor was a good idea- her ears picked up the words spoken by the other Archer in the group. Head jerking up, embarrassment forgotten as her expression lit up for the first time since... well, before the Juk field, the small white haired girl dashed down the hall.

Was it possible that Angel-san had been captured too? Hopefully not, but, in the slim chance it was her... well, there was a lot to catch up on and she'd be more than happy to see her again. If it wasn't? Well, having Marionette-san would be a very good thing too. He probably knew a lot about this place and would be willing to help them... for some exchange or favor probably but, she was willing to make another deal since it appeared- to her at least- that he'd kept his end of the deal up. Frustrated by her inability to see into the cell, hearing only soft sounds from within, Sekai stretched up on her toes and imitated what she'd seen Senna-san do, turning the bar itself until it released and swung open.

Not Angel-san, but someone who really needed their help.

Alarm flashed across her expression as she caught the man when he fell, trying to prevent his total collapse and spoke softly, rapidly, scared that he wasn't okay and watched his slight responses carefully. He needed help and she couldn't even do anything for him, not without her items and equipment. What horrified her the most- aside from the fact he hadn't even hardly made a sound the entire time and it had to be painful just to move even a little bit- was that his wings were bound in barbed wire so tightly she couldn't even find where it ended.

One wing looked almost completely defeathered and broken, her heart aching just at the sight as she carefully- what was she doing? He wasn't anywhere near appropriately clothed and she was definitely in nothing remotely modest, she should be freaking out and running the other way to hide- arranged one of his arms over her shoulder and gingerly wrapped a small arm around the small of his back to guide him to where she'd seen Marionette being spoken to. Leaning him carefully against the wall, still bracing as much of his weight as she could upon her own body, Sekai leaned up and ignored any comments from those who may have been watching as she turned the bar to release Marionette from his cell.

Definitely different than what she'd thought, not to mention he sounded quite a bit different than before, as she blinked in surprise, stepping out of his way as the Puppetmaster slipped out of his cell, turned to her and grinned.

“Oh thank you my dear, I was waiting for someone to release me.”

Much to the young girl's surprise, the man bowed to her.

“You were always the kind heart of the group.”

Flustered at the praise, Sekai quickly bowed back in return, obviously embarrassed about the treatment and replied softly. Kira would kill her if she ever found out just what she'd done in that entire time during the AI woman's absence... and it wouldn't be in a way that she'd be able to recover from very easily.

"W-We need everyone we can trust,"

Her expression changed, stubborn and defiant as her eyes flickered to the rest of the group. They probably didn't trust him even now, even though he'd helped them out in various ways and not reported them to the Elites... as far as they knew. Ugh, this whole paranoid, living on the run and can't-trust-anyone lifestyle was terrible; thus why she was going to stick firmly to her belief that she could trust him until she was forced to admit she'd been wrong.

"Even if... they don't trust you, I do."

"Ah, yes, well. Old wounds take time to heal, and some here are older than others."

Stepping out of the cell, Sekai backed up a little, gently arranging it so that she was carrying and supporting the really badly injured man again and looked up to see Marionette looking down at Sheena-san.

"...Sheena. Long time no see."

Sheena wasn't the only one who looked surprised, though, Sekai's expression definitely leaned more towards confusion than anything else as she looked between the two individuals. Was she imagining things or was there some sort of tension starting to mount between Sheena-san and Marionette-san?

"You and Sheena-san know one another?"

Wouldn't hurt to ask, right? The expression on Sheena's face stayed for a moment before lapsing into a glare that startled the young Archer, her response curt in... what was probably anger or something else as she spoke.

"Demorian. So that's where you went."

Demorian? Sekai's confusion deepened as she looked between the two, trying to puzzle everything out because something wasn't making sense again. Sheena's response directed to her caught her attention, the girl looking at the older woman as she spoke- as was only polite.

“You could say that.”

Much to her surprise, a sheepish smile appeared on Marionette-- Demorian's-- face.

"We, uh... used to fight. Together, that is. Against this."

He gestured around, as if making a point that the fifteen year old girl wasn't quite able to grasp just yet.

"The elites. I was one of the first."

That... explained a lot and didn't at the same time. Something that didn't entirely surprise her considering who had spoken. Blinking as she let the new piece of information settle in for her to think on for a bit, Sekai looked between the two of them again.

"I... see. Um..." [/b]

A nervous look at Sheena.

"You're not going to hit him, are you? I really think that he could help us, um, after all, no one gains anything by being stuck here."

It didn't hurt to ask these things, and the last thing she wanted was a fight breaking out when they should be concentrating their efforts into getting their weapons and armor back and getting out of there.

"I should hit him. He deserted us, defected, disappeared, and convinced us all he died.”

As she'd thought, more to the story than was being told. Though, she didn't just want to assume that he'd done it for no reason or because he'd gotten tired of listening to orders or something like that. Demorian-san's mind was... complex, to say the least and if it didn't benefit him, he didn't seem to be interested... or at least pretended that way. If he'd been one of the first Freedom Fighters, then, why hadn't he just sold the whole lot of them out to the Elites and profited from it? Why help the new group of Freedom Fighters?

Things just didn't add up in her mind and there was a reason, she just knew it.

"M-Maybe ask him why first? People... don't just leave without a reason."

She replied quietly, glancing over to the male player before looking back at Sheena.

"Did... did the thought of leaving never cross your mind Sheena-san?"

"No."

Something in the woman's voice had gone cold, Sekai's eyes narrowing slightly as she studied her.

"This isn't a fight I can ever walk away from."

The look over at Nall said a lot... and didn't at the same time, so did the expression on her face when she looked back to the two of them.

"If people didn't run away, we would have won by now."

Those words upset Sekai, the girl taking it not only as a personal insult- because she was rather terrified, hated fighting and wanted a more peaceful solution, not to mention a more detailed idea of just what they were doing besides trying to defeat the Elites- but believing that she was insulting Mari-err-Demorian-san without knowing everything first.

And that, to her naïve sense of things, wasn't in the least bit fair or right.

Her cheeks flushed with color as she avoided looking at Sheena for the moment and spoke. It was rather unusually bold for her to speak out against someone so much more powerful- and experienced- than she was.

"Not everyone has the ability to hold on so tenaciously; even a hero questions if he can do this every once in a while."

She shook her head, expression stubborn after a moment of silence as she looked back at Sheena.

"I believe we can trust Demorian-san; and that there's a good reason behind his actions."

"Yeah, Sheens, you know me. Hell, I did some good, didn't I? Got you into those hubs. I bet Raine's still analyzing all of that data."

A hopeful smile from Demorian and an equally determined, but hopeful expression from Sekai turned Sheena's way. The Fist Fighter continued to glare at the man and finally sighed before responding.

"Fine. But I'm watching you."

"What do we do now? Um... besides find a way to get our weapons and armor back.

Sekai asked, now curious to see if they were going to cooperate with one another... or if there was going to be more arguing.

”Oh, those? That'll all be in the lockbox in the central pillar. Probably just through those doors. Might not even find anyone else between here and there."

Wow, he really did know things around here, she thought to herself, pleased for some reason that they had someone so valuable on their side... for right now. She suspected he'd go back to being a neutral party again as soon as they were out. Which was fine, she'd prefer that route herself... had she the power to actually be able to pursue it.

"You know this place rather well then, I take it?"

"Been here a few times, in various roles. Currently prisoner."

Yep, she'd been right.

"Hopefully once we get out of here, there won't be a repeat of that."

Sekai replied shyly, a small smile on her face as she returned to another question that'd sprung up in her mind.

"How difficult will it be to get out of here?"

"That, my dear, depends entirely on where we are. Or, rather, where the prison is. It moves, you see."

A moving prison, somehow, she started to think she was in some parallel universe as a character in one of Mika's shounen manga. Certainly kept feeling like it the longer she was with this group.

"...is it a bad thing that I'm not terribly surprised by that?"

She asked after a moment's pause to no one in particular before shaking her head.

"Um, well, what would you suggest we do after we're rearmed?"

"Leave, of course. It won't be hard to do so. They expect people to break in, not out."

That sounded good enough to her, now, all she needed to do was find out where Kira was- hopefully not torturing someone again, she really had a bad habit of picking on people when they really didn't need it- and get her summoned- if she could- so that she could get some help with the injured man weighing heavily on her back and shoulders.

The Wavemaster was pleasantly surprised when the prison door opened in front of him. He momentarily considered that it was a hallucination, but a swift test proved him wrong, assuming he knew what hallucinations could do in the first place. He moved into the main part of the hallway and when he finally was there, saw the guard dead once again and the rest of the cells opening up, he figured that what had happened really just did happen. He had to be careful now, sadly, because he didn't know if what he was hearing or seeing really had happened or not.

Which didn't mean that he didn't flinch badly when he saw some...thing move into one of the cells that someone had just vacated. It looked a lot like the Tar Clone that he had managed to defeat back in Gan, but a bit more...evil. At least his Tar Clone didn't have a staff dripping with what looked like blood in the brief glimpse he had of it. He didn't know who had occupied that cell, and wasn't about to know for a while if things kept up this way, although he hoped that he'd be learning every name in the Freedom Fighters soon enough. After all, he was Comatose now, and that meant that he would be...well, stuck here for a good long while. While Schizophrenic and paranoid. Okay, so maybe Ondine had a bit of a point when she told him that going back into the Juk prison field and continuing on would only result in tragedy. A big point. Maybe he could get Centrus to convince a doctor that he really was Schizophrenic and that he needed drugs that would cure him of that?

Hell, that might actually work, and if it did...well, things in this world would be a hell of a lot easier because of that. Then again, he had to talk to Centrus about a lot of things, and one of them was to make sure that the Fist Fighter didn't fall into a coma like he had. Ian had a lot of friends in the outside world, something that the Wavemaster most definitely didn't have. Were it not for the whole Schizophrenia thing popping up when it did, he might have enjoyed this excursion into The World more than he did the outside world. Maybe. That remained to be seen, of course, since he had only just started and was still a prisoner. That small problem needed to be rectified, and fast, assuming that he wanted to taste any of the benefits of being Infected.

Takua looked around for a few seconds before his eyes alighted on one of the Freedom Fighters. He finally stopped on one of them, the one who's voice matched the one he had been talking to earlier. He walked forward, coming to a halt a few feet away, one hand holding his head in an attempt to mitigate the headache that wouldn't die. He was also hoping that he didn't hallucinate during the conversation and nothing awkward happened.

"You must be Nights then? Nice job getting us all out of there...I'm the Wavemaster who was talking earlier. Have any idea on how we get out of here or get our weapons back? I'm kinda...well, I'm bait at the moment."

Nighthand smiled. Well, that was handy, a smile right off the bat. "Bait is good though." He chuckled. Even better than a smile, the guy was laughing. "Apparently, our inventories are in the central area. I imagine we're heading there next."

Takua grinned wryly. Nice to find someone with a sense of humor in the group. On the other hand...how did they know that it was in the central area already? Unless things had been going on while he was thinking, which was quite possible.

"Also, any chance that I could join up? I'm sure everyone else who came from the Eventides will, but it'd be nice to make sure that we've got a spot so that we're not completely screwed when an Elite comes calling again."

"Oh, I'm sure you're basically stuck with us now. You could go off on your own, if you wanted, but it's basically suicide."

He almost wanted to laugh as he remembered something from his abnormal psychology class. People with Schizophrenia had a suicide rate a hell of a lot higher than the regular person and had a live expectancy that was ten years lower than average. He was already screwed, he was already worrying about that problem and he had to figure out how to make sure the Elites didn't find him as well. Now though, it might be best to make himself seem useful in order to forestall any immediate betrayals by his new allies.

"Well then that takes care of my complaints. I've got...a bit of experience fighting while I can feel everything, so I shouldn't be too bad once we get our shit back. Anything else that I should know about where we are or what we're up against?"

"Heh. Well. You know the Elite that brought you all here? We're in their home base. All six of them are probably here."

"...Somehow, I have the feeling that we're not going to want to draw attention to ourselves then. Who knows where we're going?"

"Sheena will probably lead the way. What we do once we're out of here, though, I have no idea. Even though I'm half leader of this party. I just take things as they come most of the time."

Well, first things first was, who was Sheena? The second thing was, how did he get useful again? At the moment, with all of his items gone, he really was almost completely useless. No stand alone abilities like some of them obviously had, nothing but a very weak and just slightly fleshy body. Oh, and a mind that seemed to be growing more and more paranoid as time went on. But that wouldn't really come in handy if he couldn't trust the people around him!

"Sheena...which one is she? Anyone else that I should be particularly aware of? I know Raquar, Sekai and the other two from the Eventides...that's it."

Night's pointed to a woman down the hall. "That one's Sheena. You'll get to know the others soon enough I'm sure."

Giving a final muttered 'thanks' the teenager walked down the hall, passing a few cells before he stopped cold. What should he be doing now? If he gave in to his state of mind, he would never be able to integrate into the rest of the group and he would be completely screwed. You needed to be able to, if only slightly, trust the people around you that were keeping you alive, something that he was having just a bit of trouble with.

He ground his teeth together as he spotted a single person resting in a position that looked distinctly...unenviable. Here was a chance for him to try and get into the good graces of a few people, right? He had to do something. A brief flare of the eyes and a slight twitch in the right one were the only outward signs he gave of the combined assault of both Gunner and Shadrach, and he strode forward with purpose, his own fears be damned to hell and back.

"Uhhh...you need a bit of help there?"

"Probably a good idea. Don't think we've met. I'm Dien."

The man twisted around to get a good look at the teenager before he extended a hand, something that the Wavemaster looked at for a second before taking, immediately noting that something was off. Odd...why was his hand cold? Well shit, more than a few questions here and not exactly the time to ask.

"If we had, something would be wrong. I'm freshly comatosed, so that's why. Takua, Wavemaster although you can't tell right now."

"Blademaster here, a whole mess of titles can apply, though no one here would give a shit about any of 'em. 'Emissary of Vulcan' and 'Forgotten Wing of Lighthack' are the most recognizable. So, what'd you do to wind up with us?"

Interesting...a Vak affiliated Blademaster? How funny that he would pick up the one guy that happened to be the opposite elemental affinity. Takua froze at the second question, wondering how much he should answer immediately. Such suspicion had become second nature...and he hated it. Hated how his mind automatically assumed that he needed to hide, to lie, to make sure that people didn't know and couldn't use weaknesses against him.

"Zenobia wanted to play, and apparently when she wants to play she makes it impossible for you to do anything like logging out, disconnecting, taking your FMD off...that sort of thing. I was in the Eventide Crescendo for a bit, but now...apparently I'm with you all."

"Eventide...what? Sorry, but it seems I'm a bit out of the loop."

Takua chuckled, grabbing the Blademaster and hauling him upright, slinging one arm over his shoulder in an attempt to keep things balanced. Good, he didn't know about the Eventides and what they did. Somehow, that satisfied that paranoid part of him...which made the rest of him scream in rage that he was satisfied because the man didn't know something. God fucking dammit. Controlling his voice as best as he could in order to modulate the rage and make sure that nobody knew that something was wrong, he thought that he succeeded...and hoped that Sekai, being able to see through him so damn fucking well, wasn't around to hear it.

"Let's just say that this isn't my first time being able to feel things. Raven, Sekai and Raquar all came from there as well."

"Really? I kinda wondered where Raquar and Raven came from, though never really thought to ask. Still, sucks that Xenobia decided to steal you from the real world."

A small chuckle. Yeah, it did really suck that Xenobia decided to steal them away. Just a little bit. Especially because she had gotten Baron, who didn't deserve it (ignoring all of his paranoid suspicions), and Talal, who was most definitely not supposed to be here. Just a day, he thought to himself again, just one more day and he could have taken this...gone to the doctor and started to get treatment and he might be fine here. But no, of course not.

"Yeah, you could say that it sucked. At least we only had one, not two. How long have you been with this group?"

"A while now, I lost track track a while ago, and who knows how long we were just out? My guess is that the Elites would know best; I got stuck when they attacked Mac Anu."

“I see. How long until you think you'll be able to walk again?"

"No clue. That's the first time I've actually combined my power with Nighthand's. Every other time I've done that, I've wound up a ghost."

You could combine powers with other people's? Good to know, and that certainly made him think more. If you could do that...he suppressed a shudder, trying not to think of what the Elites could do with that. He didn't want Xenobia doing anything with anyone to make her more deadly.

"That's...interesting. Alright then, ready to get out of here with the rest of the group?"

"You bet, now you mind if I stop talking-ish? Head kinda hurts."

It was hard to hold in the relief in his voice as he replied. At least he hadn't fallen apart in suspicion in one of his first conversations with a Freedom Fighter, maybe he could do this after all. Hope was there, no matter how fucking slim it had become.

"Go right ahead."
