The large amounts of bubbles floating around the battlefield made Takua think of something like a ever-shifting minefield that you couldn't always be sure you wouldn't hit. Baron's little stunt seemed to have filled the air with bombs that either debuffed you or just outright killed you with undodgeable elemental fury. The shield was gone too, which made the Wavemaster suspect that this shield wasn't something that could have been popped by anything other than filling up the amount of spheres to the maximum and then whittling them down to zero again. Annoying to say the least. At least he felt a little better about the outcome if it had been needed.

The repeated cursing, poisoning, and other debuffs on the other hand made them more than just a little annoyed. Not to mention the sudden and rapid slaughter that happened every now and then. Watching the other teammates play, on the other hand, certainly did explain what they needed to do. Forcing Tritoch into the bubbles and hoping for an explosive one certainly did sound like a great idea. Following up on what Canti had done and start slamming the magical symbol also sounded good.

First though, he was going to help Dien out during his own assault. Or, rather, pick up what was left of him with a Rip Maen to bring him back to life...shortly after Talal had been kind enough to throw a Restorative to get rid of the Sleep status effect that had been slammed onto him. Stupid status effects...at least they didn't affect everyone at once, that would be a royal pain in the ass. More like suicide as well, since everyone being asleep would also mean that nobody could heal, or resurrect, or even go so far as to fight. So...popping every single sphere would lead to death now wouldn't it?Well, besides the fact that A: You couldn't pop more than one at a time with an AoE spell and B: about half of them just butchered you where you stood. On the other hand, Tritoch didn't seem to want to set them off on himself either, which meant that he was relatively easy pickings. The tail that had wrapped about the symbol seemed to be ready for any spell that he sent at it though, except maybe a very suicidal Rom.

So, instead of something like that, he wanted to do something potentially constructive. Dien's charge using the fuel from a Vulcan Ch to push the beast off balance...so perhaps a LaRue Zot could push him off balance enough to topple him into a bubble? Maybe? Hopefully anyways. And so it was that in mind that he cast the first spell underneath Tritoch's foot, hoping to throw him into a sphere and cause massive damage to the former Wavemaster.

What happened instead was that he half-dodged the titanic spike of ice that blasted up out of the desert floor, and the side of the iceberg barely tapped a sphere. The sudden and brutal annihilation of his flesh by Ani energy didn't leave him very happy in the least, nor was it anything but extremely painful. Gritting his teeth, he waited for someone to resurrect him...and was pleasantly surprised when Dien returned the favor and resurrected him. Giving a nod to the Blademaster and putting him on the list of people to try and get to know a little better, the Wavemaster returned to his efforts at putting Tritoch on ice after downing a Mage's Soul.

If a third level spell popped a bubble and nearly got the caster killed...then how about a second level one? Switching over to one of his many Juk based staves, Takua let the smaller spell go off right underneath Tritoch's body. A pity, he thought to himself, that the beast was just a bit too big for that to work, the smaller spell simply unable to topple him...although he did rear back a little bit. Shrugging, he just moved on to the next step, combining the two. The first RaJuk Zot slammed a tree into his body, the giant LaRue Zot pushed him backwards into several bubbles before his tail righted himself again.

Takua cursed as he noticed the Poison and Curse that had been placed on them all. Dammit, not again. He wanted a big boom, not a quiet debuff. Those didn't seem to do anything to the great beast. For that matter, what he had just done didn't really seem to have done anything. Just shoved the thing around. So...unless they hit an explosive bubble, nothing would happen? Or was he immune to massive elemental damage anyways? That was certainly possible, it seemed like he had a bottomless amount of HP and SP at the moment.

Which drew his attention, once again, to the arcane symbol that flickered where Canti had struck it. The tail was already coming back to guard it, which meant that he had to act quickly if he wanted to strike it. Sure, it meant that he'd probably die in another few seconds, but that was fine. The MeJuk Kruz coupled with a OrGan Don in order to overwhelm Tritoch's defenses, at least one of the spells finding its mark in a frenzy of magical explosions, wood and stone. Unfortunately, one of those spheres had gotten hit by the OrGan Don...and true to his luck, the blast of Gan turned his formerly full-health body into a zero-health corpse in no time flat.

Groaning, he watched as Talal took care of that condition for him, but he didn't charge back in just yet. It looked like his attack had done a little bit of damage, which implied that that was his weakness. So. Perhaps they needed to get the tail out of the way so that people could generally gang-rape the symbol?
To: Freedom Fighters

Subject: Arcane Symbol
Seems to be his weak point. Maybe try and attack in concert to get the tail out of the way and then nail the thing? Lemme know if you need a LaRue Zot or something similar to get him off balance.
That done, he took a few steps back and away from the spheres. Since he'd just died twice and had had Tritoch blow a good many, it was time to not get fried again.

Status effects and elemental blasts were flying around, and they didn’t seem to have any connection whatsoever to the attacks that had formed the bubbles in the first place. Demorian watched with a curious eye as players alternately threw themselves into the bubbles and skirted around them to get at the beast himself. The Blademaster chuckled. “They really are a sight to behold. Nall chose well…” He wondered how they did it. They shrugged off the pain of dying repeatedly, no matter how painful it was. The group was a well-oiled machine when it came to resurrects, possibly their biggest asset. Kill one part of the mob and while the enemy was focused on another, the first came back. Most of the time, without even any permanent damage, other than a loss of an item or two.

Demorian shook his head. The Freedom Fighters… could they actually do it? Back when he was a member originally, their numbers, their dedication, their power… it was all smaller. Well, maybe not the power… but the party had nothing like the solidarity this group had. Even now, they were facing a beast who had yet to take much in the way of apparent damage, and could kill any and all of them with an attack or two, and yet they didn’t flinch. They didn’t break and run. They fought and died and lived again to fight again, without a moment of hesitation. It was… wondrous.

The Blademaster circled Tritoch, watching and looking for patterns in the bubbles as they popped. It looked like there were only ten possible outcomes, or at least only ten displayed so far. The six elemental blasts, a curse and poison that affected everyone, and a limited area paralyze and sleep. Thankfully, as yet there were no confuse or charm, the two most annoying status effects. Inability to do anything was far nicer than being forced to do something detrimental.

Of course, Demorian also studied Nighthand. The man had stood stock still when his blade pressed against the bubble, and when the bubble popped and was replaced by thirty small ones, he didn’t move. The other players ignored his presence, knowing they could do nothing for the man. Yet he was looking much better. His eye was open, though fixed on the symbol on Tritoch’s chest to the exclusion of everything else. He was slightly crouched, looking for all the world like he was preparing to lunge. Yet every time he seemed to tense, a bubble floated in the way, or Tritoch’s tail blocked his view, or something equally detrimental to an attack.

“One…” Demorian counted, when the first strike was dealt to the symbol on Tritoch’s chest. Canti’s sly use of his ability gained the first point.

“Two…” Demorian continued, when Takua scored the second hit with a well-timed spell.

He circled and counted as well, and with the lowered number of bubbles, it was possible to keep track of them all. Significant holes were forming in the monster’s defense. By his count, only fourteen bubbles remained.

Nighthand tensed again, but another bubble passed in front of his face. Demorian checked, but no… he still had 0 HP and couldn’t be resurrected. Oh well.

Interesting notes:
- The bubble count is off because Canti did knock Tritoch into one, he just couldn't really tell.

Boy, don’t I feel like a kid again…

Bubbles were popping left and right around Baron as he watched the other Eventides get into the action. The Paralysis was starting to annoy him as people started taking hits around him, suffering death at the hands of the elemental bursts that were contained within the small spheres. Some of them were rather amazing, from bursts of lightning to crushing boulders materializing out of nowhere. The overall result was pleasing to the eye, though it promised to be quite painful. Most of them were resurrected on the spot, saving them the trouble of having to beg for their lives back from inattentive teammates. If nothing else, Baron could definitely credit the Freedom Fighters for their cooperation. They moved like a well-oiled machine, certain players automatically falling back on support while others moved on the offense, balanced to the point where the instant one fell, another could take his or her place while the former was revived. The tactic would only end if their item stock did, but hopefully that was a while in coming. The Twin Blade didn’t see any profit to being wiped out. It wasn’t very conducive to a long life, after all.

Finally someone was so kind as to toss the paralyzed Twin Blade an Antidote or a Rip Teyn (he couldn’t be sure, he was frozen in place and said person was out of sight), and he was free to move again. The first order of business was a Rip Synk to remove the Curse that had been placed on him at some point and had taken a large chunk of his SP, followed quickly by another Rip Teyn to remove the poison. A Mage’s Soul set him at a much better SP count, before a chunk of it went to Dien in the form of a Rip Maen. It was worth getting the Blademaster back up on his feet, even without his SP. Every member of the group counted, after all. Another Mage’s Soul was consumed, and Baron’s SP hit full. The Twin Blade was back up to fighting shape, and as he turned to Tritoch for another round of assault-and-die, he prepared to make use of it.

The first idea that came to mind was a spell assault on the magical rune that everyone else seemed to be aiming at. The idea was simplistic, but was quickly rejected. Baron was no Wavemaster, contrary to his actions throughout the battle so far. His best bet was to get in close using his class’s natural speed to get a quick shot at the magical rune that Tritoch seemed to guard so carefully. As the Flashmail from Raquar suggested, this was likely the weak point for the Administrator, which meant that a full assault at that point would finish him off. Of course, with the behemoth’s guard, it’d be hard to get in close, but that was why Baron was going in close and personal. With his speed he’d be able to slip past Tritoch’s defenses and perhaps make a hole for others to strike too. It was worth a shot.

Charging forward, Baron wove through the remaining wall of bubbles, dodging each one carefully as he made his way forward. A Speed Charm was quickly consumed as the Twin Blade ran, allowing him to close the gap even faster than before. As soon as he was past the field of bubbles, a Merrows spell exploded in front of him to strike at Tritoch’s magical rune for a quick preemptive. Baron wasn’t surprised that the tail was tucked in close and took the blow, so that the Admin’s amazing defense against spells allowed him to absorb the hit without much of an effect. The Twin Blade charged in close, hoping to leap over the tail and attack directly… only to find out that the tail was tucked in tightly, making approach to the symbol impossible. Swearing softly, the boy realized that a change of plans was called for.

Two sharp daggers were suddenly slammed into the large tail blocking the weak point, lightning jumping up the length as Tritoch began to flail about to throw the irritation off. The electricity streamed down the length before the tail whipped backwards, surprising the Twin Blade and launching him… straight into a bubble. The sphere burst under contact with his body, sending an area-of-effect spell outwards, catching Baron under the effects of a Mumyn Lei. He was out cold, his consciousness slipping into sleep as he noted that two others had also been caught in the burst. His eyes began to close as he wondered how things would go until he was awoken…

(Somewhere along the lines, he'd been resurrected again. Again? Well, yeah...why not? Canti straightened up, looking around, and then Talal was there, giving him a Mage's Soul. He had his own, but you don't look a gift horse in the mouth and all. They talked for a bit, and then she went back on her healing crusade. She offered to get in on his evil master plans for handling Tritoch. Allright, then that was all the dark Twin Blade really needed. Bwa ha ha ha ha ha haaa!! Oh wait, we're not evil this week. Anyway, the bubble count had gone quite down since he last looked, and Takua managed to hit the main man's freaky symbol! Alright, magic-man! Funny thing about all the dying they were doing. It didn't hurt as bad as ya might think. More on this later. In any case, his count had been off. Did that bastard hit one of his own bubbles, after all? Huh... Ah well, time for the not-so-evil-but-hopefully-effective master plan of most recent accord. Since dragony-chimera-guy over there was so fiercely rooting himself to the ground, Canti wanted to wedge him out. Why? Well, you'll see. First, he made sure that Talal was at a distance to prevent collateral damage. That being the case, Canti casted Juk Zot to ram some tree up Tritoch's snakey ass! The spell goes off without a hitch and...WOW. Just wow...'cause he didn't move an inch. Impressive, to say the least. How the hell do you not even MOVE when you've stick riding straight up your ass? This called for Plan B, which was implemented thusly.)

Canti: Talal! Stone 'im!

(She casted Gan Zot with a scroll and...hmmm, nope. Not a thing, sir! He still wouldn't budge, despite the stones launched up into his saurian underbelly. Still impressed by his fortitude, he almost missed Talal speaking to him.)

"He didn't budge! Again?"

Canti: On the count of three, at the same time. One, two, THREE!!

(And a pair of Gan Zots followed. This had a different effect, in which Tritoch sort of lurched forward somewhat from the combined rock power, but didn't exactly move much. It was essentially useless for what Canti had planned, which was a real friggen' bummer. Talal was on the move, getting closer for the time being. Tritoch didn't appear to be retaliating... Was it because their actions, though annoying, were insignificant? Or maybe it was a bother to strike at things behind him, the key reason for which the winged Twin Blade had come back here in the first place. Seriously, if he could fiddle around without as much of a chance to get shot to death, that was good.)

"He's locked into the ground. We need to soften it somehow and loosen his grip, but I don't have the right element. Thoughts?"

Canti: Actually...

(He pulled out his 10 Ice Storm scrolls and handed them over, getting a new idea.)

Canti: You pelt him with these and I'll use mine. Together, we'll make quicksand.

"Let's do it! We'll talk about this scroll dumping habit you seem to have later."

(She'd given him this sort of wide-eyed look when he dumped a load of scrolls into her arms. Hey, it wasn't HIS fault he didn't use 'em often. Okay...maybe it was, a bit. Besides, he didn't even LIKE ice. Come to think of it, Tritoch normally didn't mind ice himself, but this wasn't for the damage but rather the effect. Talal was only kidding with him, so they went down to business to try to make the ground slippery or wet or something with this mass of scrolls. Now, Canti didn't know about Talal, but he didn't get past his first Ice Strike scroll when suddenly...a bubble popped instead of him hitting Tritoch.)

Canti: Oh cr-

*TING!*

*Boomshatter!*

(Canti went all to pieces, literally, right after having been flash-frozen by an arctic storm centered totally on him. Man, with all the times he was dying, we should've named him Ran Cossack. In place of the frozen and shattering Rue-hit Twin Blade, there was a deadpan-looking ghost standing there. Tritoch had, by the way, been relatively unaffected by this...again.)

Canti: Well, that didn't work.

"You can say that again. By the way, you look a little pale. Here's some quick action tanning lotion."

(He was tossed a Resurrect and Canti returned to the game again!)

Canti: Alright, I'm a real boy! A real boy, I say!

(Laughing it up, the Twin Blade joked around for a moment. Exactly where was the whole pain thing that Demorian wondered about? It was left by the wayside for reasons that will soon became apparent. Anyway, we return to our regularly-scheduled-and-more-serious Canti, already in progress.)

Canti: Okay, Talal you use an Ice Storm and I'll use Gan Zot. Carefully.

(They did this and...Tritoch seemed to rock around a bit, but nothing much else. Well, the big bad beastie was giving them this menacing death glare, which in turn gave Canti the heebie-jeebies, but he wasn't showing it. He then does another handing-over-items-to-the-unsuspecting-girl bit, giving Talal a pair of Resurrects.)

Canti: Here, hold this in case of...eh, you know. I'm gonna charge a heavy shot. You blast 'im with Gan Zot when I say.

"Wow! This is just like Christmas."

(He was SO getting in trouble for this later. Of course, Canti did it mostly because he had these Resurrects and stuff of his own, and they needed to be spread about because of how often he was dying and NONE OF THEM were getting used. A division of labor and resources was what this was, and he was just trying to make it go the distance. In which case, Canti charged up another one of his special condensed penetration blasts. So, when he shouted "Now!", he fired and Talal accidentally popped a bubble with her spell. Canti didn't expect it as the other Twin Blade tried to duck the fire and instead was blasted to death with a sudden shriek. There really was no dodging those. Talal's ghost emerged from that, saying...)

"Why must it always be fire? How about a nice drowning or something next time...huh?"

Canti: There's nothing nice about drowning.

(That had gotten a more serious look out of Canti, who had never drowned or attempted to do so, but found the idea of doing so on purpose unacceptable in his book. True, he'd never been the picture of perfect mental health and had had depression, but he never liked suicide and certainly never wanted to drown. Besides, instinctively...in The World...he was afraid of water. It happens, folks. He resurrected Talal, trying to think up the next new plan to work on. What were they up to, Plan Q? In that case, let John De Lancie handle this and we'll call it even. Hmmm, maybe if they tried cutting off the tail...)

"You know, since we're dying anyways, we might as make it a frontal assault."

(And cut off the tail? No, wait... Canti grinned.)

Canti: You know what? Let's do that. Follow my lead.

(They both headed in, using their own methods. Talal had Speed Charmed them both. Canti flew in so as to insert himself into this quietly. He was pretty sure Talal didn't wanna go HIS way, since it involved flying and being harder to get in while holding onto a passenger. These things happen. She got in okay, daggers out and sliding in like she was a baseball player. Excellent. Now, for phase two!)

Canti: Stab 'im in the feet while I put on the pressure!

(As in, he'd put on the Darkness Flame pressure in a flamethrower blast of condensed proportions so as not to allow splashes of darkness radiate out and pop anything. There were still 11 bubbles left hovering around at as optimum a pattern as possible and he didn't wanna risk anything here. What were they doing, you might ask? Well, that much would become clear soon as well. As far as it LOOKED LIKE, they were trying to get him to fall into the bubbles, but that...was only really PART of the whole scheme here. The important part was in getting him to fall, which Canti was even shouting...)

Canti: FAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!

(...right before they were both ka-thwacked. Here's what happened. The leg Talal was stabbing the foot of at the time de-grippified itself from the clay ground and kicked her right out of the bubble-radius like a pinball launcher. And as for Canti, he was just swung out like a baseball during a homerun by the wand-arms. They both landed...not too far away from each other.)

Canti: Ow... Okay...that's strange. I'm not dead.

"OUMPH! Ouch! I don't like being a damn football, but on the bright side it looks like we both survived that round."

Canti: Now you see...why the dying part isn't as bad. There's the shock, but then the nerves are shut off so it doesn't last.

(In other words, Tritoch killing them wasn't really so bad because - most of the time - they weren't actually suffering. Basically...you get over it. The two of them got up and Canti healed with items, giving Talal items for healing as well, who thanked him promptly and had to admit that he had a point about the whole nerve thing. Honestly, he didn't know if that notion worked 100%, but after having been through alot already...that was how it SEEMED to operate. Anyway, Canti now revealed the actual important details of his grand master scheme here.)

Canti: This is a problem. I wanted him to fall to get the bubbles popped safely, but I also wanted it so he has to move his tail to get up. That way, we could get at the symbol. The only other way I can think of is cutting his damn tail off. You got any ideas?

"The tail is too big for our weapons. Either we get a heavier class in there or...we could try fire this time?"

Canti: Fire how?

"Well, if I could get close enough again I can splash him with a Burning Oil and then we could set him a flame. Tail might move then if only to flail around?"

Canti: I like it!

"Sounds like we have another plan. You ready?"

Canti: Go for it.

(Doing so, Talal had equipped different daggers and ran in to slide between bubbles a second time. She pulled out the Burning Oil and slapped against Tritoch's torso suddenly, easily targetable by way of a spell, which Canti obliged in when called for. He attacked with the Vak Rom, knowing that Talal had absolutely NO TIME to get out of the way. He didn't appreciate having to burn her for this, but she chose to do it this way and took the risks. For some, there is a greater thing beyond than mere death. For all the rest, there is 'Fwoosh'. The fiery tornado ignited the oil and made it like napalm, and Tritoch reacted manically, trying to put it out by thrashing and whipping his tail onto the fire. He saw Talal get crushed by the attack...but wait! Tail! Moving! OPENING!! While Tritoch was busy with that - still on fire - Canti flew around to the front at top speed, charged up, aimed, and...)

Canti: Spirit Gun of the Darkness Flame!!!

(...blasted the now-exposed symbol with a condensed penetration shot of the Darkness Flame! The symbol distorted even more than it had before, barely recognizable from its original state now. Canti barely has time to squeeze out a laugh or a mid-air victory dance before Tritoch's tail whips out suddenly at him, breaking his back with a loud and vicious SNAP. He falls down to the ground and tumbles, graying as he was dead once more. His ghost rose up from that, as did Talal's, and they spoke outside the range of the chimera's bubble-radius, too dead to be bothered by it anyhow.)

"I'd ask if you're alright but here is a prime example of those nerves being in shut off mode. Obviously this isn't the scenario you had in mind when you handed me your items."

(She laughed, since...yeah, both of them getting killed at once wasn't a part of the plan.)

Canti: Ah, no. And I only handed you a couple because you had an equal chance of dying. Still, as far as things go, uhhh...we didn't do too badly. 'Cept, you know, the dying...

"Yeah, I could do without the dying part. Nice work up there, though. I can hardly see that thing on his chest now. We've got to be getting close to something."

(To what, we have no idea.)

Canti: If we're lucky, it makes him implode. I'm sick of dying, and the only reason I'm doing this well, mostly, is that I'm nicely stocked up. C'mon, let's go flag down a res-man.

"Right behind ya."

(Canti waved his arms up and down to get someone's attention, but it was hard because somehow, Baron, Takua, and Dien had gone asleep at the switch. Little Zs were coming off of them as they glowed funny. When uhhh...did that happen? Maybe it was while they were 'round back, because Canti didn't remember seeing this happen. Not much either of them could do about it NOW.)

OOC: And long post is long. Good thing I looked before I leapt.

Bubble count - 11 now.

Canti death count - 8 now.

Talal death count - Not sure, actually.

Tritoch symbol - Hardly recognizable now.

And yes, I AM calling it Spirit Gun of the Darkness Flame.
I'll have a doozy of a sig later, I swear. It'll reflect ".hack//CODE" an' everything.

Hey look! A profile! It's got items and stats and things! Cool! If it isn't fully up to date, it will be, so don't worry 'bout it.

It seemed that people had gotten the message through their heads that the sigil was what needed to die, not the bubbles. Those might actually be preventing him from retaliating, hoping that he wouldn't be the target of an earth-scorching blast of magic. He didn't really think that the status effects did to much to him, since he didn't seem to exactly have a need to rely on SP and HP anymore. Just slamming blades and spells into him did...well, just about exactly nothing. Unfortunately, Baron's efforts had left him fast asleep...something that was quickly remedied by a certain Archer.

Now, if only, Takua thought to himself as he watched Canti attack, he could bring himself to trust the boy. But he couldn't find himself able to trust many of the people here, let alone Baron. Somehow, it seemed as if quite a bit of his paranoia, at least for the moment, found itself focusing on him. Nothing about the boy lead the Wavemaster to trust him in any meaningful way. Would he fight alongside them in order to get out of here? Very probably. Could Takua mean it when he said that he wouldn't think that Baron would stab him in the back at some point? Hell no. The sad, sad truth of the matter was that, when it came down to it, he couldn't put faith in the Twin Blade. Which was horrible for someone who had been in the Juk Prison Field with him. But it was true.

Canti had scored another hit, the symbol was obviously wavering and nearly destroyed. How many more hits? One? Two? Certainly no more than three...right? Gearing up, he launched a LaRue Zot and then a GiRue Kruz in an attempt to force him up and backwards before slipping a spell past the defense represented by his tail. No such luck, although he did get forced up and backwards into a bubble...that did absolutely nothing that the Wavemaster could detect. What the hell? Well, not that he minded not getting cursed and poisoned over and over again, or hit with a Paralyze debuff.

But it still hadn't done what he had really wanted it to do, which was to do damage where it apparently hurt, right in the sigil. Glancing around, he watched the patterns of the bubbles, and knew that a summon spell would pop at least one of them. So, the question became, would it be worth it to break one out and death a lot of damage to the sigil? Well, plus, he just wanted to anyways.

The double ice spires from two LaRue Zot blasted him up and backwards, causing the tail to unwrap a bit to balance himself...but was still around to protect Tritoch's weak point from the shower of ice spears that blasted out from ice elemental that Takua had summoned. Ineffective, all he had managed to do was pop a bubble and cause pure Juka energy to pulverize his bones. His death had come from an obvious source, his resurrection didn't. Demorian threw him one before walking over and taking a place next to him, either ignoring or not noticing the started look that Takua momentarily threw him. "Wanna try again?"

Automatically deferring to the higher powered character, the boy readied himself to be more in a supporting role as he replied. "Of course.  You wanna be the one to take down that rune?"

"Let's not assign roles.  If you see a window, take it."

...well then, there went that idea. Looking around, Takua checked out where all of the spheres were again before downing a Mage's Soul in order to gain the SP that he needed. A moment later, he began his spell casting, opening with a GiRue Kruz in order to distract Tritoch a little bit. As the ice cores began to spin and dive in, Demorian moved, vaulting up and over spell, bubbles and Tritoch himself. The ice did nothing, as he had expected, but the LaRue Zot planted under Tritoch definitely did more, forcing him up and backwards as Demorian came back into view, slashing at the tail before stopping inbetween the Wavemaster and the monster they were trying to kill.

The last LaRue Zot began to erupt as planned...until the titanic spear of ice that erupted from the ground with all the force and power of a howitzer shell blasted forth as if it were a PhaRue Zot. Tritoch was blown off his feet as Takua's mouth dropped to the ground, staring at the spell that he had launched and had gotten a brutal level up. The monster flew through an ill-placed bubble, popping it and erupting in Gan energy. An instant later, the huge body crashed back down to the ground, tail twitching as if stunned by the impact. The space above him was clear, Demorian was back to about where he had started.

A moment later, and three boulders descended from the heavens and knocked Tritoch down on his ass, although none of them hit a rune. The OrGan Rom, meant to at least poke the rune, instead popped a bubble, and lightning coalesced around the Wavemaster for the moment before he was roasted to a crisp and his body slammed into the ground. Demorian, however, sprang forward and slashed, fading the symbol even more to where it's barely visible anymore, but before he could get a second strike, the tail whipped out and nailed him away from the weak point. Smiling tightly, Takua waited for another Resurrect so that he could get back into the action.

Demorian scanned the field, looking from player to player, and dropped resurrects to those in need. He healed himself, as well, from the damage Tritoch had dealt to him in knocking him away.

Through it all, Nighthand had done little but stand, straining, forcing forward. He seemed unable to take another step, but he tried, shuffling forward a little at a time. Somehow, everyone who fought danced around him, not bumping him, not noticing him. They could do nothing for him so they didn’t bother.

Straining against an invisible wall, it was like a bubble suddenly burst. Nighthand lunged forward, his Nightblade driving into the tail and through it, stabbed into the symbol, until Nighthand’s arm was buried to the elbow.

The symbol flashed into light and fire, and burned. Then.. it exploded, and blew Tritoch back a dozen yards. He landed on his side, smoking and screaming, skidding across the dirt. Nighthand dropped like a ragdoll, instantly fading into a ghost.

Tritoch screamed at the sky, and threw a wand at the towers. It tumbled through the sky and landed in a puff of dust.

“YOU! YOUR WORTHLESS POWERS! WHY DID YOU GIVE THEM TO ME IF THEY WEREN’T GOING TO WORK?” He screamed again, still burning from the symbol, still writhing in the dirt. “FINE. I’LL DO THIS UNDER MY OWN POWER.”

The flames flared up, a bonfire as bright and as high as the city walls. Slowly they died back, inch my inch, until all that was left was a human-sized flare and a large charred patch of ground. The figure gestured, and the flames burst out. Two dozen fireballs congealed in a ring that rotated and spun around the man.

Tritoch was back in human form, his long hair, once-silver, charred and blackened. His robes were red and orange, wavering and flickering like flames themselves. He held his wand, human-sized again, and gestured once more. Eight of the fireballs morphed into blocks of ice, and eight more turned into glowing balls of plasma.

“It’s time for you to die.”

Fast as light, fast as fire, Tritoch glided over the ground. He appeared in front of Canti, smiling faintly. “One.” He rested a hand on Canti’s forehead, moving faster than anyone could react, and a blast of lightning fell from the sky, blowing the unfortunate twinblade to pieces. He moved, gliding in a blur to Baron, and flashed from one side to the other. Baron burst into flames, collapsing into a ghost, but Tritoch was already elsewhere.

Sekai fell to a blast of ice, and Takua was immolated like Baron. Then Tritoch laughed, and flew up into the air. His wand pointed at the sky, and meteors began to rain down. Explosions of heat bombarded the field, not targeted, just cover fire.

Nighthand is now resurrectable, but he’s pretty catatonic.

Happy birthday, from you to me. =D

Re: Captured! Jailbreak of the Century

The vigilant gaze the female Twin Blade kept over the battle field landed her sights back on her dark winged counterpart just in time to see him cast another ram rodding spell at Tritoch. Thankfully, she had gotten out of the area; the thought of getting stuck like a pig or worse wasn’t very appealing. The manbeast didn’t even seem to be phased by the Juk based attack. In fact, it hadn’t even warranted Canti a look of any kind. She readied her scrolls figuring he would take her up on her offer to assist and sure enough, she heard the request loud and clear.

Taking one of the earth scrolls, she removed the seal and let it fly. The stone spires that erupted from the ground didn’t even make him flinch…again! Even with the added earth attack bonus she had from the Feng Shui she had acquired. Something that she felt compelled to comment on. The lack of reaction prompted Canti to make a second request, this time they would cast together. On the specified count, another scroll was used by the girl in combination with a spell from her cohort in crime. That did something at least but she could tell by the look on Canti’s face it wasn’t what he was looking for.

Talal tried to get a bit closer to Tritoch but her nerves weren’t allowing her to get too much closer. Spells from afar were one thing. Up close and personal was completely another. She noted one of the main problems, that of his clawed feet being locked into the ground. Relaying this information and an idea of resolution, she was bewildered once again at Canti’s need to offload scrolls into her arms. All things considered, she at least knew this time it was because she kinda asked for ideas and the scroll dump was his answer. Still, the first set from before was still a bit baffling and she couldn’t help but give him a bad time about the habit that was forming…whether it was forming or not.

Using the first Ice Storm scroll, Talal hoped it would work. After all, she was hoping for a flood of water not Ice and wasn’t sure what the scroll would really do. Unfortunately, things didn’t go quite as planned and sure enough the ground froze even harder which was of course the exact opposite of what she’d had in mind. Canti’s scroll managed to pop a bubble sending his digital body scattering into a thousand pieces.

Canti was to say a bit perturbed looking at the whole outcome so far and Talal couldn’t resist the urge to agree with him. To be honest though, things were getting frustrating and in the process, they were probably starting to get Tritoch’s attention; something the female wasn’t looking forward to. She didn’t really want to be in the middle of all this, not right now anyway, but that didn’t mean she had a choice in the matter either. Turning to the only coping mechanism she knew, humor, she tossed a Resurrect at Canti.

It made her laugh when he continued the humor in his own way sounding a little like Pinocchio but it only lasted for a brief moment, at least for him and they were back in the fight tossing more scrolls at the former Admin. That glare from Tritoch finally came and all Talal wanted to do was turn and run but one thing, if any, that she wouldn’t do was go back on her word and in her mind she had given it to her fellow Twin Blade when she offered her assistance. Staying put allowed Canti to give her yet some more items, this time in the way of Resurrects. Was he going to die on purpose now or did he think somehow he had to reimburse her for those that she had used on him? Humor once again taking over the massive confusion and fear running through the girl now, she remarked about how all the handovers made it feel like Christmas. Wow! That was a thought. What was it going to be like to spend Christmas inside The World? Would they even know when that was? Time seemed to be hard to track now that she was comatose and stuck. Her thoughts left as fast as they arrived and sent another Gan Zot on cue.

The spell backfired, well sort of, and popped another bubble which sent a fire ball blazing right at her. There was no time to run so a quick turn duck and cover was attempted and in turn failed miserably. In her frustration of it all and everything that had happened in the Juk Prison field, she had yelled out at the sky, hands raised as if praying to the heavens or more precisely, screaming at them. Her words weren’t received well by Canti and his remark made her feel bad. She hadn’t really meant anything by it other than it would be nice to get hit with something other than fire once in a while.

Her ghost was quickly turned back to solidity and they both seemed to be in deep thought as to what to try next. She didn’t like the idea of dying, especially now that she could feel it if only for a second or two, but she offered a thought anyways. One which Canti apparently liked or least allowed his thoughts to go a little further by the looks of the grin now crossing his face. Following his lead running straight towards Tritoch, Talal activated Speed Charms on both of them. She took the low road while her winged friend of course took the high one. Her blades drawn, Talal hit the deck and managed to slide under the bubble ring without hitting one.

”YES! Oh right, the feet. Got it.”

Her arm came back for a hefty strike downwards while the girl mentally noted that this guy was in dire need of a pedicure. She managed to land a few quick stabs while Canti put his flame on and let loose just before said pedicure lacking foot came up and punted her out of bounds like a damn football. At least this time she had managed to miss the flames, miss the bubbles and getting thwacked hadn’t ghosted either of them so all in all, could they consider that a successful round of offense since they both landed an attack or two?

Once the black winged Twin Blade had divulged his plans that weren’t going his way, he asked Talal for ideas. Typically, she wasn’t the master battle plan type; in fact she hated the idea of fighting against other players. Knowing that Tritoch was stuck like they were and could or rather should, even if he wasn’t showing it, feel everything, she didn’t relish the idea of causing harm. Unfortunately, it was just like the battle against Saol, he wasn’t leaving them any choice and he certainly wasn’t holding back.

Talal sighed inwardly for a moment but thinking of Saol had given her an idea. If she was going to get blazed to a burning crisp it was going to be on her terms and she just so happened to have one Burning Oil left. It had worked on a couple of different occasions in the Juk field but that was with the assistance of Sekai’s fire arrows. Talal wasn’t sure how Canti would feel being asked to provide the fire power and aim it practically right on top of her. Despite his seemingly gung ho attitude about the idea, something told her he’d do it for the fight, but not because he liked the idea of her being in the middle. Even if she was wrong, which she didn’t think she was, it allowed another inch of ground to be gained in favor of him becoming more than just an ally. Calling someone a friend was still something she didn’t do without a lot of reservations but that wasn’t to say it couldn’t happen. After all, look at Takua and Baron and maybe even Sekai or maybe they had just shared something so awful that it made the Twin Blade feel close enough to them to call them friends. Except for the Wavemaster, she was still sorting out the rest of it.

Just in case Canti found himself unable to follow through with the plan, Talal equipped a different set of blades that would allow her to cast a fire spell. Her trust issues with other people shining through even if they hadn’t done anything to make her think she couldn’t trust them. So once again she was off with a burst of speed and miraculously slid under the bubble field without event. Pulling out the vial of flammable liquid she slapped it hard enough against Tritoch to break the glass bottle and splatter the oil everywhere including all over herself as well as sending a few shards of the broken glass into her hand. Canti was true to his word and sent down the flame, immediately catching both the former Admin and the small framed girl on fire.

The fire was intense and burned even more fiercely with the addition of the oil. Talal closed her eyes and tried to put her thoughts in some other happy place hoping she would ghost quickly and that something good would come of the sacrifice. About then, her ghosting came but not from the fire but from getting subsequently squashed underneath Tritoch who was squirming about and slinging around his tail in an effort to put out the flames. The pain of broken limbs and searing flesh lasted for only a brief moment…thankfully.

Floating out from the fray in her ghost form, she watched Canti take advantage of the beats flailing about and blasted the symbol on his chest just before he got tail whipped into ghost hood himself and landed not to far from where she was…what was she doing…hovering?

A bit more humor and some victory comments and the pair were off to find someone to resurrect them. Takua, Dien and Baron had managed to be put to sleep again but someone at least remedied that for the Wavemaster as he and Demorian were taking their shot at the hopefully weakened creature. So many spells were cast in what seemed like a short span of time but then again, what else was a Wavemaster better at but casting.

The pairs efforts although filled with the drawback of occasional death, seemed to payoff in the end and the chest symbol got hit again. In the end it left Takua in the same state as the pair of Twin Blades. Thankfully, they were part of a big group so resurrection shouldn’t be an issue once someone has the time to take care of it. Finally, the return to solidity came from Demorian for everyone on the field in need.

Nighthand somehow in his Zombie like mode of movement managed to give the final stab to the symbol. Considering how drained he seemed to be, the attack went clean through Tritoch’s tail that was once again playing the protective cover role, leaving Nighthand’s arm buried in the bleeding flesh. The explosion that followed threw the beast back like any good explosion should. What was interesting though, was the Nighthand simply dropped to the ground and ghosted rather than being thrown like his feet had been weighted with megatons of steel and cement. At least, he was finally a ghost which meant he could be healed…..hopefully.

Talal’s thoughts of rushing over to help the fallen player were interrupted by Tritoch’s yelling. Who exactly was he yelling at? Maybe he was delirious now from all the attacks and damage. Another interruption came with a burst of flames and a group of fireballs. Tritoch himself seemed to take on the appearance of flame in a way. But it was when he began moving faster than any eye could track when fear started to settle back into the female Twin Blade. He could take them all out in a flash and they wouldn’t have anytime at all to react.

Canti, not surprisingly was his first target of retribution. The winged player had pissed off the charred man on more than one, two or even three occasions in the last few minutes. Talal wasn’t sure how he was controlling the spheres of fire and ice hovering in the air or how he targeted the lightning blast that blew her cohort in crime into a thousand plus pieces. Even without all of the extras that he once had, this new form of Tritoch looked just as powerful. Not a very settling thought after everything they had already hit him with.

Baron was next on his list, this time using fire and before the second Twin Blade could even ghost, Tritoch was off to his next victim or rather victims. Both Sekai and Takua fell in similar fashion to Canti and Baron. It was a rather good thing she wasn’t a paranoid type or at least not psycho paranoid or the attacks could have made her feel like Tritoch’s choices were personal. All of her friends and those she was on the verge of considering such had just been annihilated in quick fashion. Luckily, she wasn’t that paranoid….yet.

Explosions began to bombard the field in no particular order or targeting structure. Why did he suddenly stop the one by one? Why do such a random pattern after showing how he could wipe them out? It didn’t make any sense and strategy admittedly wasn’t really the girls’ strongest suit so figuring out the puzzle behind the madman’s thoughts wasn’t going to happen.

Takua was closest to her so she tossed a resurrect at him with a mixed look of both fear and a weird sort of solemness followed by a slight nod, most likely stemming from the simple fact that out of everyone, she felt the closest to him. She was turning to go towards Canti and the others when a random fire ball exploded into the ground in front of her causing an immediate change of direction.

Aaack! Back to plan A it is then.

She ran over to Nighthand hoping that Takua would take care of resurrecting the others which if she knew him at all, knew he would. Her run ended when she slid into a kneeling position next to the dark clad player who had miraculously been resurrected prior to her arrival and was now lying on his back with a blank stare into the sky. He had full health but it still didn’t look like anyone was home inside. Slowly moving a hand back and forth in front of his face she tried to get something to connect.

”Hey there, you okay?”

A groan was all she got from the man. To his defense, he had just been data drained, kicked around, stabbed, killed and then brought back to life. Obviously he wasn’t going to have a quick rebound after all of that. Talal took her hand and tapped him a couple of times on both cheeks and continued her attempt at some sort of connection.

”Hey! You need to wake up and smell the coffee!”

It was a bad cliché saying but nothing else came to mind quickly. The taps were obviously not hard enough but semi-productive. The groan she got this time at least didn’t sound pained but more of a ‘It’s too early mom, I don’t wanna get out of bed yet’ kind of groan. That settled it, he was a sitting duck where he lied and so was she if she stayed with him. Hopefully, considering he looked like a guy who didn’t back out of a fight, wouldn’t get pissed at her later for physically removing him from the fight. Just then, another random fire bomb exploded in the sand not far off.

”Right! Well….Nighthand is it? Time to move.”

Getting up, Talal puts one foot on either side of his hips and grabs both of his wrists and pulls him up into a sitting position. Quickly, she maneuvered around to get a better grip and then haphazardly hauled him to his feet which took a bit of effort on the small girls’ part and for anyone watching, could have been quite comical if under different circumstances. Throwing his arm over her shoulder she looked around to get her bearings and noted the two Terra Cotta soldiers just standing there muttering to each other and watching. Apparently they didn’t feel that their assistance was needed or maybe they thought it wasn’t their fight until it threatened the city. Regardless, she and the rest of her allies were risking their lives and dying more than once, the least they could do was help the wounded.

”You there! Come and make yourself useful!”

A bit more muttering took place between them. What? Were they drawing freaking straws on who was going to come over and help? Finally, the muttering stopped and one of them walked over to meet her.

”What?”

She was soooo not in the mood for attitude at the moment.

”Grab his other arm and help me move him towards the gate…” She paused for a moment, trying really hard not to just blow and go off on the soldier for not helping the others. Inner strength aside, she simply looked at him and added… ”please.”

”Eh..I guess”

The soldier reaches over and literally grabs Nighthand from her lops him over his shoulder before turning and walking towards the gate. It wasn’t exactly what Talal wanted but would do at least to get him to the gate. She wouldn’t leave his side until he was conscious and able to handle himself again and there was no way in hell she’d trust a perfect stranger with his safety. She followed keeping a weary eye on the explosions behind them; they had traveled outside of the area of effect apparently so they were no longer in danger of being hit. About halfway to the gate, Nighthand began squirming around, kicking and throwing his fists into the soldiers back and pushing away from him trying to get out of his grasp. The soldier looked down at the girl in confusion.

”What’s his problem?”

A quick look at the Heavy Blade told her he still wasn’t quite all there but was definitely aware he was being carried. Not really liking that the soldier took him from her in the first place and the fact he was a lot bigger than she was, she reverted back to her humor hoping to not piss anyone off and shrugged.

”Apparently he doesn’t like being a sack of potatoes. Thanks for your help but I think you can put him down now.”

She looked at the player who was still in the process of being let down, still with a touch of humor in her tone and a sheepish grinned look that hopefully conveyed the old ‘sorry, but I was just trying to help’ message.

”Nice of you to finally smell the coffee?”

He tried to stand but his legs wouldn’t have it and gave out from under him. Talal quickly rushed over to his side and grabbed his arm to keep him from totally falling. He was understandably exhausted which made his words sound a bit labored.

”Have to fight…”

”I admire your will but no offense, you can’t even stand let alone walk right now.”

”Doesn’t matter. Gotta fight.”

She watched him pull out a scroll and promptly drop it. Grimacing at his stubbornness, she bent down and picked it up. Looking at it, she couldn’t help but understand and admire his resolve to keep going and fight, but she also knew he wasn’t going anywhere at the moment. An idea struck, admittedly not a very good one, but she had put herself here and was going to stand by his side until he could handle things on his own again.

”Fine! But at least allow me to help you? I assume you want this cast.”

Hoping that she’s right and he didn’t have some master plan going on his half-conscious brain, she took it upon herself to break the seal on the scroll and cast it directly at Tritoch. It was a Dark Traitor, a level 2 darkness scroll. A swarm of oversized skulls formed above the once beast turned man enemy figure. Each skull was surrounded by the darkness element and each trailed by a dark shadowy mist. Completely formed, they all converged onto Tritoch. All Talal could do was stand there and hope he didn’t figure out where it came from as she wrapped her arm back around Nighthand’s waist for support while the other hand readjusted to get a firmer grasp of the arm that was propped over her shoulder.

What was that old saying? ‘Out of the frying pan and into the fire’. She could only hope that wouldn’t be the case here.

It looked like, even though someone was kind enough to restore him to life, he wasn't needed anymore. Instead, he got to watch as their catatonic Heavy Blade dealt the final strike needed to the sigil...and promptly reverted the Wavemaster back to his humanoid form. Okay, so that was kinda cool. Now he wasn't some pumped up Chimera on steroids and crack. Instead, as he shortly proved in rather swift and spectacular ways, he was just as dangerous as before, and at least four different kinds of pissed off. Four people died in seconds, and the two dozen spheres of elemental power that surrounded him promised even more pain.

Which, of course, meant that he was going to have to challenge that. After all, it was only this person right here that prevented them from walking into the rest of Yamiyo and getting away. Vanishing into the lair of the enemy, if Demorian wasn't lying to them, wasn't leading them into a trap. Shadows flitted at the edges of his vision, but they skittered away when he glanced at them. Of course, he'd been destroyed in a rather...painful way just a few seconds prior, which precluded his effectively fighting back until someone had been kind enough to resurrect him. Which, somewhat unsurprisingly, came from Talal.

The thought that briefly flickered through his mind didn't make him feel any better though.

Downing a Mage's Soul and then tossing out resurrects to the other life-deprived people around him, he looked up at Tritoch at about the same time that the meteor rain began falling. Grimacing, he ran out of the way of one meteor...and watched the towers come crashing down as they were pegged with the full power of the other Wavemaster's fury. Quickly selecting the weapons that he wanted, he first cast a Dek Ruem and Dek Vakz on their enemy, aware, not for the first time, that he was fighting another human. That he was trying to end a life so that he and the rest of the Freedom Fighters could live to go on to another day. At what point would he crack? At what point would he decide that he could no longer kill more people?

Not today, evidently, as he sent forth a GiRai Don and a OrRue Rom. Unfortunately, the lightning was absorbed into the spheres of the same element before it had a chance to harm him, and the Rue spell burst into steam just by being near the fiery colored robe. So, he had some built in protection did he? That wasn't very good, not good at all. On the other hand, he'd stopped the meteor rain...to look around for the attacker. That, also, was good, even if it meant that he was about to die a very painful death. Switching wands once again, he cast a RaJuk Rom and then planted an OrGan Rom directly below the other tornado. When Tritoch attempted to drop out of the way of the first crashing wind of brambles and twigs, he went right into the twister of stone.

Which was when a massive flash of ice exploded out from within him, freezing everything around him before cracking and exploding. Abruptly, Takua became aware that the color of his robes had changed, from red to blue, and one more of the orbs that had encircled him was gone. So, he had a set supply of defense and possibly offense? That was good...but getting through all twenty three left would be a pain in the ass. Perhaps they could kill him anyways? Yes, yes, that would be great. The confident walk that the admin was taking towards him wasn't great, but the boy matched it with a confident stare of his own even as he changed up his plan a bit. Perhaps he could induce the opposite element into a sphere and fuck something up?

Well, it was worth a shit. Worth enough of one that he cast a RaVak Don on one of the ice globes that encircled him. Before the spell hit though, just as the flaming boulders were about to strike, the Wavemaster seemed to warp...and suddenly he was here standing a few scant inches away from Takua, and long before the younger male could react had snatched one of those Rue spheres from his circle and plunged it deep into his foe. A moment later, a full blown PhaRue Zot erupted from beneath the lesser Wavemaster, encasing him in ice before shattering, letting the cold seep in through his body and into the ghost that was left behind.

The good part was that, for the few seconds that he could see the admin up close, he could determine that his spells were having some kind of damage effect. At the very last, Tritoch had been rather dinged up by his spells earlier. Smiling tightly, he waved slightly at Demorian, beckoning for a Resurrect, and got one. Swallowing another Mage's Soul (that one tasted like good cold apple juice, what the heck?) he cast an Ap Do upon himself and then on Demorian. He might be able to use the Blademaster in this next attack...especially with where he was right now. A moment later, and a GiGan Zot surged out of the ground towards the other Wavemaster, but Tritoch merely jumped with it, backflipping towards Demorian. The Yarthkins Ch that Takua had added in there, however, spiked its massive club into the former admin and blew him away, feet skidding on the ground some distance away.

The feeling of victory, and his smile, flickered though as Tritoch grabbed one of the Rai spheres...and proceeded to Hadouken the area directly between the Blademaster and Takua. Rather abruptly, it split in two, and for a moment the universe was filled with pain before his body collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut. Demorian, on the other hand, was left twitching on the ground, alive, but obviously in a lot of pain.

It took a few seconds for Takua to realize that he had been resurrected by a friendly archer, and several more to get himself back on his feet long enough to realize that Baron had decided to take the role of attacker now. That was fine by the Wavemaster for now, since he didn't want to get fried more than necessary. So, instead, he spent much of his time resurrecting the Twin Blade as he did his thing...and nearly got fried again as a result when Tritoch's lightning bolt nearly killed him as well. Stupid damn orbs, way to annoying.

Okay, so naptime hadn’t gone well. Baron was awoken from his spell-induced sleep in a manner that he probably would not preferred had he the choice. He was caught in a surge of flames as Tritoch appeared before him, moving with an insane amount of speed back and forth. The man, now transformed back to his human state (when had that happened? Sometime during Baron’s nap?) struck quickly, utterly obliterating the Twin Blade with one of a number of spheres surrounding him. Fire didn’t even burn as it turned flesh to ash in a matter of moments, a pale, forlorn ghost left where a body had once stood. Baron was left dead once more, unable to act upon the more physical world as hell began to break loose. Tritoch jumped back and forth between people, destroying them with various methods, unmistakable cruelness marring his features as he moved back and forth. Even the meteor storm at the end, unfocused and random, was released with a supreme hatred for those below him. Was there no end to this man’s power?

A Resurrect came to Baron shortly after, and suddenly the Twin Blade was fully physical again, his feet pressing against the ruined, blackened earth. Silver eyes roamed across the battlefield even as a Mage’s Soul and Speed Charm were quickly downed. SP was restored to Baron, and his speed was given a powerful lift, putting him back into battling condition. But he knew better than to just charge in right now; the best thing to do was to gauge Tritoch’s new power. Instead of charging in he took the liberty of watching his show of pyrotechnics and whatever other technics ice and lightning were, observing carefully. He observed that each of the elemental orbs that Tritoch used changed the man’s robes to a color that matched the element. The Twin Blade assumed that it was the basis for any of Tritoch’s own spells. It could also indicate some sort of elemental weakness as well, but there was really no way to tell without testing that theory as the chance presented itself. Plus, those orbs could be important too, if they caused the Administrator to change based on what was used…

Suddenly, while Tritoch was distracted by nuking Takua, Baron released a powerful OrmeAni Kruz, black skulls erupting from the sky to strike at one of the glowing Rai orbs. The spell struck easily before Tritoch could do anything, converging onto the glowing orb of plasma… before absorbing it. Sort of. Shadows suddenly danced upon the surface of the orb, the two elemental opposites fusing with each other to form a half-plasma, half-shadow sphere. Baron blinked in surprise; the combination was the last thing he had expected. The boy wasn’t really sure if he had just given Tritoch a new weapon or potentially neutralized it. Whatever the case was, it suddenly looked more ominous now.

Then an idea clicked. Maybe it halved the destructive element of the orbs? It was only half of the element instead of a full one, so maybe multiple elements in the spheres would decrease their power even further. It was an odd train of logic to follow but since Tritoch was still distracted, Baron thought he’d give it a try. A Rue Kruz closed upon the sphere, jags of ice stabbing inwards, but the spell simply passed through with no effect, leaving the Twin Blade with a half-frown. Either his spell hadn’t been deemed “powerful enough” to be absorbed, or the whole thing worked with opposite pairings only. Of the two, he was more likely to go with the latter, so he let the whole orb-bashing thing rest. Of course, this was more because Tritoch had turned and noticed him at this point rather than Baron being bored of experimentation. Definitely a good idea to get moving before he got nuked.

Again.

Spreading his wings again, Baron pushed forward with his feet digging small grooves into the ground. His Ap Do-enhanced speed was astounding, allowing him to close the distance between himself and Tritoch in one burst of speed. His blades were slashed forwards, their edges aimed directly for the Admin’s face. However, the Twin Blade held back on his momentum somewhat; he had seen Tritoch warping around, and in all likeliness he expected the man to dodge. That was why he held back; if needed, he could change directions or keep going right past if the man teleported to one side or the other. What he didn’t anticipate, though, was Tritoch merely stepping aside, his wand coming around suddenly. The wooden staff smacked into the back of Baron’s head, disorienting the Twin Blade for a brief moment as he clutched at the bump that was already forming. Though it was a minor injury and hardly made a dent in his HP bar, it still hurt!

A Gan Rom exploded behind Baron as he moved to cover his retreat. Tritoch was surrounded by a cloud of dust and rock, trying to fan it away from his eyes. The Twin Blade managed to get away from the Admin, pulling a good distance away. However, an idea came to him as he banked, turning to face the overpowered Wavemaster again. Another Gan Rom exploded around the man before Baron dove in again, the dust providing a sort of cover for the boy as he drew in close. The sands whipped at his face but cleared as he approached, leaving him with a wide-open Admin just waiting to be hit. And the Twin Blade was going to make it hurt! Darkness leapt across the short daggers clutched in his gloved hands, the black sheen immediately put to use as Baron’s Swirling Dark went off. He spun as he approached, almost a small cyclone of darkness to contrast the sandstorm from a moment ago.

The first strike hit with ease, the black blades stabbing into flesh as they moved forward. Tritoch sidestepped the next, stumbling back out of the way of the attack. Even as the next one came, a large Vak sphere came around out of nowhere and enveloped the two of them in an explosion that felt roughly like being strapped to a firework as it went off. The only difference was that it was about a hundred times more powerful and only a bland shade of red and orange rather than the more fun purples and neon greens; how boring. Either way, the effect was the same: Baron was set on fire, left to burn for about a half second of insane agony, and subsequently ghosting. As far as flaming deaths went, it hadn’t been a particularly glorious one, but at least it had been quick. He’d have to remember to put a thank-you note on Tritoch’s grave after this. Wait, did The World have graves? Regardless, he was quickly Resurrected, so there was no need for him to go over the details regarding his. They wouldn’t have found the charred remains anyway.

I really don’t understand you anymore… you started out being some depressed, miserable, and withdrawn little nuisance while Libra hijacked your body and ran you around, and now you’re suddenly perky and joking around. Someone inject you with caffeine or something?

Hell if I understand it, but something about being in battle like this is exhilarating… even though it’s no longer a game and it’s a very serious situation, I still feel that thrill as I attack, watching my opponent to try and figure out his moves before he makes them, working hard for a win… it’s just strange like that. I almost feel… I almost feel like this is a game again. But hey, whatever works, right?

There was an almost audible sigh. Whatever, chuckles. Go play, just be sure to kick some ass for the two of us, okay? You screw things over and we’re going to be having some words later. A lot of words.

Baron gave a wide grin, something completely out of place in the serious field of combat. Where around him scowls, set determination, and fear all reigned, his smile was the one that stood out the most. It felt odd, it was like… like a weight had lifted from his shoulders with that one shift to his expression, his lips parting momentarily to speak softly.

“Let’s dance.”

With that, a Mage’s Soul and a Speed Charm were both consumed, just like before. Back up to snuff and with his speed a bit higher than before, the Twin Blade decided to repeat his tactics, since they had gone so well. Of course, he was aiming for a better element of surprise so that he could get more than one hit in. Avoiding ghosting was a bonus too; death tended to be unproductive for the most part, and Baron really didn’t like being unproductive. Things needed to get done, and if he was just sitting there all glum and transparent, he wasn’t going to be able to do that! So another Gan Rom stormed up, more dust filling the air and creating a wall of sorts between him and Tritoch’s line of sight. Immediately making use of his boosted speed, Baron shot forward in a rush of wind, his feet practically flying across the ground as he quickly closed the gap towards his target.

Unfortunately, Tritoch was tired of being nice and waiting for someone to attack him, and instead decided to emerge in his own rush of speed, surprising Baron with the movement. Instantly a Merrows summon went off, the large serpent obscuring the boy’s view of his attacker. It’s completely normal to have your knee-jerk reaction be a summon spell, right? Just because you could level a building when someone startles you with a tap on the shoulder doesn’t make it overkill, does it? Baron certainly hoped not, because otherwise he couldn’t really justify the blast of elemental energy that smote (smited? No, it was smote. That sounded right) Tritoch head-on. Of course, the man charged right through it, completely ignoring the fact that a serpent nearly five times his length and made of pure elemental energy was there. It was a nice brush-off, and he probably had a smug look on his face after he made it through, expecting to find a Twin Blade right there.

Unfortunately, Baron couldn’t tell you, as he had used his Ap Do-enhanced speed to get behind Tritoch while his big serpent stole the attention. In essence, he had vanished from Tritoch’s sight. Using that moment of stealth, the Twin Blade charged in for a direct attack, the Ani element wrapping its dark tendrils around his weapons. This attack was far more powerful than his last, though; as the Twin Darkness went off, Baron hit with a flurry of attacks, a good half-dozen or so easily impacting the Administrator before he warped away with a look of pain on his face. Unfortunately, that warp put him right behind the Twin Blade, leaving Baron wishing he could do that so he wouldn’t have to rely on his Speed Charms for such a maneuver, but in the meantime he had to content himself with being sent flying across the field as the Rai/Ani orb he had made earlier, the electrical impact stunning as he smashed into the ground and bounced a few times. Oops, there went his collarbone. And there went his spine… it took a good four or five bounces before he finally ghosted, bones realigning themselves in his intangible form with ease. Not to mention that he wasn’t alone; apparently jags from that orb had come out, striking and ghosting Demorian while Takua was left at maybe half of his health. Ouch, talk about aftershocks… and that was a bad pun. Aftershocks from a lightning attack.

Another Resurrect came quickly, and Baron nodded to Takua as he landed on his feet, his blades already out and ready to go. A glance at Tritoch revealed that the man’s robes had changed to a yellow, though now his outfit was starting to look particularly ragged. The Administrator was leaning on his staff as well; had Baron’s hit done that well, or was it a result of the orb that he had hijacked? Either way, it was an interesting development, meaning that he was starting to weaken. While making his observations, the Twin Blade had already consumed yet another Speed Charm and Mage’s Soul combo, and was set to go. Unfortunately, it seemed like his sandstorm trick was starting to get redundant and expectable, and Tritoch was probably getting impatient with the repetitive tactics. Such a shame.

In retaliation, a trio of Gan Rom spells went off almost simultaneously, forming a rough triangle around Tritoch and boxing him in while buffeting him with rock- and sand-laced wind. Baron fully expected him to come rushing out of the sand, directly at him again, and had already prepared a Merrows spell. As soon as the Administrator came out of the spell-created storm… well, okay. So he went upwards. That kinda killed the whole plan. How was he supposed to work with that?

Jerk… ruining a perfectly good plan.

Yes, Baron, he’s a jerk because he didn’t go along with his enemy’s plan to destroy him… we should like… cry at him. It’d probably be just as effective as calling him a jerk.

Your sarcasm is so refreshing sometimes, I swear…

Well, time for a change of plans. While Tritoch was still ascending, Baron quickly dove into his own sandstorm. The winds tore at his body, dealing some minor damage, but there was no doubt that the Twin Blade was hidden. Heck, he could barely see Tritoch through the sand, and only because the Administrator was directly above him. That was enough, though, as a night-gripped hand pointed skyward, summoning a horde of powerful black skulls to surround the enemy. The OrmeAni Kruz crashed towards Tritoch, but the man avoided most of it, taking only some of the damage from the final explosion and dodging the bulk of it. While he was dodging, though, Baron came up beneath him, another Ani-based skill erupting from his blades as he drew up towards the Administrator.

“Dark Dance!”

A flurry of slashes came forward, the first two making easy contact as the weapons tore into Tritoch. Unfortunately, the third was dodged, and as the last hit went off Baron found two arms wrapped around his body before both he and Tritoch were plummeting earthwards. He was released maybe a foot or two from the ground as the Administrator leveled out and flew upwards, while the Twin Blade found his neck in a very uncomfortable position. Sort of at a ninety-degrees-from-normal kind of uncomfortable. Fortunately, ghosting came before the numbness wore off, so Baron was just left floating around dead, his ghost hovering in place.

Things were certainly working out well, weren’t they?

Nighthand sat, supported by Talal, but he knew fighting right now would be futile. Still, a driving force burned inside him. Tritoch had put him through hell, for what seemed like days, and the heavyblade would return the favor.

Few could say they had been data drained and lived to tell about it. Fewer still could say they came out the other side with their character data intact. None but Nighthand could say they had their very soul torn asunder by the conflicting forces within. The data drain was like napalm, like acid, like balefire, a fury burning not just through his flesh and blood, but through his data and his mind and his soul. Silverblade still screamed.

Meanwhile his hack, Unbreakable, held his data in stasis. Its usual function was to return him to a repository, a location of deleted data he could fight his way out of, instead of simply being put unconscious into a bin and discarded. It gave him awareness of the deletion process, and let him escape. Essentially it held his data still, giving him the chance to remain whole, if his mind could take it. Fighting against the Drain, his power regenerated his data as it was burned away. Constant torment, both his minds screaming and burning, while flesh burned and burned and burned, all while not burning.

Hell of a reward for a noble sacrifice. He had no idea what would happen when he blocked Tritoch’s data drain shotgun with his own body. He had guessed at least level drain, if not complete deletion. Torment, pain, and a return to his own body whole again… that had not been on the menu.

Gradually he could feel Silverblade settling. Having no physical form to hold on to, being just a consciousness made out of data, the AI had borne much more than Nighthand himself had. While Nighthand weathered the torrent on his soul, Silverblade’s very essence was being rent and stricken. Now, though the whole thing was over, they were both weak. Too weak to stand, too weak to fight… but not too weak to hate. Still, Talal was right. In this condition, he would just get wrecked, if he could even near the wavemaster. So he sat, resting as best he could while the fight raged, letting his strength return.

Demorian had, at some point, died and been resurrected. He wasn’t even sure by who. Dying itself was enough of a shock to him; not something he did often. Tritoch was a pretty serious opponent, it seemed. Demorian studied Tritoch as the wavemaster flew this way and that, fending off Takua and Baron in equal measure. He was looking more and more ragged, but his power was, if anything, growing. In fact, as he watched Baron land a hit, he saw a slight pulse in the charges of energy circling the man.

Flashmail
To: The Party
From: Demorian
RE: Tritoch

Keep it up. We’re definitely doing damage now. Not like those stupid defensive forms earlier. One note though: Looks like the more damage we do to him, the stronger he’s getting. Not that it matters when he can one-shot any of us as it is, but he might be gearing up for a final sacrificial explosion. Or not, I could be wrong. No way to tell yet. Just be wary.

Sending the flashmail, he was chagrined to hear the chime in his own head. In his rush, he had sent the flashmail to himself as well. He rolled his eyes and deleted the message, drew his sword once again, and wished he could fly. They would have to drag the wavemaster to the ground for him to do much.

He flipped through his inventory and a bit of a plan formed in the back of his mind. Something to give them an edge right when they might need it… They just needed to gather. He smiled, and started moving, ready to taunt and to fight as necessary.

Death seemed, once again, to be a far more common thing than Takua could ever have imagined before he'd entered The World again with the Eventide Crescendo. It seemed constant, an ever present companion that all of them hated but found themselves embracing time and time again, either by their own volition or not. By its very nature in this, death was cheap while you were in a party...it was the thought of what would happen outside of a party, while you were on your own in the wilderness as a hacker blew your brains across the desert floor, that was truly frightening. Here, there was indeed a party, but too few of them seemed to be trying to help. Most of them seemed to be, well, preoccupied by standing and watching, running, dodging, not even actively trying to bring this to a resolution or close. Why? Did they all have a death wish after that short time in the prison? Did they believe in testing newer members of the Freedom Fighters in this way?

Whatever the reason, at the very least they were handing out resurrects when it counted. Breathing a sigh of relief, Takua braced himself again. The debacle that had been Baron and his coordinated attacks hadn't gone well, perhaps this was simply someone who was better able to be fought with a single strategy instead of two that weren't inter-meshing correctly? It was possible. Something that the Wavemaster didn't like, however, was the fact that their opponent was once again recognizably human. He didn't like killing, it still worked on his mind, but he couldn't deny that they would kill in order to get out of here. Perhaps, now and then, he could think about what they had done, about all of the bodies that they had left in their wake. But he couldn't devote the time to that right now, when all of the brain that was under his control was dedicated to fighting off Tritoch and the hallucinations that plagued him in the fight.

He was fortunate, really, and he knew it. This could be so much worse, he could have convinced himself to fight his own allies and have the ensuring confusion allow Tritoch to take them all. He could be unable to fight at all, blinded by his condition. That would be a bitch and a half, something that he didn't like the thought of, but he also knew it was a possibility. For some reason though, perhaps because he already was paranoid about what abilities Tritoch had and the powers that he could wield, things weren't so bad now. Being in the town, a semi-peaceful place form what Demorian had said, was likely to be worse, especially since he wouldn't be able to tell if he'd really just pissed someone off and was about to be blown to hell or if he was mistaken about a confrontation.

Trying to ignore a little Archer nearby and hoping that Kira still had control, or at least enough of it to matter, the Wavemaster took out one of his few Ani wands and prepared himself. He didn't like casting Ani, however much he liked shadows and being in the dark instead of in bright lights. Mostly, that had to do with the company he was with than anything else. It also had to deal with the sometimes cold and slimy feel that it had, a crawling whisper of madness that tried to slink beneath his skin. At other times it was warmer, embracing him instead of confronting, protecting his body within the grasp of its embrace.

It was like that now as his first spell went off, a moment feel of a caress from a shadowy woman, perhaps a protector. The OrbiAni Don blasted through one of the Rai spheres that Tritoch used as weapons, turning it tainted with gray, something that he liked. Maybe the enemy would use that part of his power and regret it. Maybe maybe maybe. The next question was, since Tritoch hadn't focused his evil eye on Takua just yet, was to either keep on attempting to warp those bubbles or go on the offensive, and trust that he could deal enough damage to make up for it.

Given how his day had gone, it was fairly easy to see why Takua chose the more offensive route in the heat of the blazing sun. He was exhausted from running all day, his body not yet accustomed to living like this all the time. Especially not as a Wavemaster, whose lithe body was more suited for reading books in a tower somewhere than out running from monsters or other humans in a battle for his life. However, that was the genre of game that he was playing, a game that was no longer a game, and he had to continue, even if his body ached and wished for nothing more than to lay down and let the pain fade away.

Instead, he asked for more pain. His first RaJuk Rom settled around Tritoch for just a moment, and then the former Administrator blasted out of it, headed directly towards him...and into the giant battle troll that Takua had summoned. But his course didn't waver even as the troll slammed the club into him, and the boy found Tritoch's wand buried into his chest, his back against the harsh desert sand as they moved at a speed that turned the schizophrenic's skin into bloody swiss cheese, leaving parts of his back scattered across now red sand. After what had to be at least 100 yards, although it was hard to tell through the screaming pain that had once been his backside, Takua slipped off of the other Wavemaster's wand and began a quick and savage deceleration. It took maybe twenty yards of bouncing and rolling before he finally slammed into a sand dune, eyes wide but not screaming just yet.

Instead, he pulled himself, very slowly up and winced horribly before stopping. His back was a mess, the attack meant to cause bodily pain rather than hit points, as odd as that might be. Muttering under his breath, an Ola Repth spread across the party, sealing up the raw and bleeding mass of pockmarked flesh that was otherwise known as his back. That spell had been one of his staples for quite some time now, and even more useful now that it also got rid of the sensation (if you were lucky) of pain, something that very few things in the real world could do, and none on such short notice. Downing a Mage's Soul, he turned to where Tritoch was hovering and fired off a MeAni Kruz. Rather than hitting him though, the former Admin simply...warped out of the way perhaps twenty feet, leaving the darkness to crash against nothing but empty air.

He did, however, also crash down to the ground. Did that mean that his flight was somewhat limited? Checking behind him, he saw that Demorian was rushing up. Swiftly hatching a plan, he cast an OrmeAni Zot and then a RaJuk Rom in very quick order to try and keep Tritoch moving towards him. With any luck, the bastard wouldn't notice Demorian and would get a sword to the face. That was, of course, with any luck at all. Instead, even though he evaded both spells, the corrupted admin jumped over the Freedom Fighter and clashed his wand instead with the Blademaster. Takua swore as he continued to dodge...and suddenly found a frozen sword barely an inch from his eyes. Thanking whatever gods were watching that Demorian stopped it in time...he found that it didn't matter a second later, as Tritoch grabbed a fire sphere from nearby and dropped and explosion right in-between both of them.

The Wavemaster found himself wishing that he could scream for just a moment as his body was immolated, but the lack of lungs prohibited that sort of recourse. Demorian was perhaps less lucky in his eyes, he was caught on fire. Looking around, Takua was preparing to open a flashmail to get a resurrect when he heard a Rue Rom go off right next to him, dousing the fire and...apparently healing the Blademaster. Eyes widening, he didn't get a chance to question whether it was an ability that looked like a Rue Rom or whether Rue spells healed him before he found himself alive again.

Chugging an Artisan's Soul to pump his SP back up near the maximum, Takua wanted to chuckle. Perhaps Tritoch wouldn't have noticed that the Wavemaster was alive again. Wishing to take advantage of whatever surprise he had, he quickly cast three spells in succession. The OrGan Don dropped downwards, forcing the man to dodge down before a GiGan Zot made him cut out to the side...where a single Yarthkins Ch awaited him. The club swung, blasting the man straight towards Demorian, who was all set up in a pose and everything right before he swung like he was a Samauri, a flash cut obviously hitting Tritoch as he blew past. Takua's heart jumped when the enemy Wavemaster was still, utterly still...but he knew that he wasn't dead. Well, it wasn't exactly a 'knew' but more of a feeling that it was better safe than sorry.

A single OrbiAni Don descended, all three blackened skulls cackling, as the OrmeAni Zot erupted from the ground, he tower of darkness energy swarming around Tritoch. It was obvious that both spells hit...but when the graphics cleared, there was nothing there anymore. Eyes widening, Takua turned to look around to find where he might be...only to feel an intense heat and pressure enter his chest cavity. Without turning, he knew what had just happened, and so it was perfectly understandable when the fire sphere that Tritoch had shoved into his chest exploded, turning level 38 Wavemaster into a fine mist with a few occasional pieces plopping down onto the ground several yards away.

(One doesn't exactly know how, but Nighthand had stabbed Tritoch up to the elbow in his current whacked out state. That was one of the last things Canti could quite remember before he'd been resurrected by Demorian and then subsequentally killed by Tritoch again when the guy had a tantrum, reverted to his human shape, and blew him to pieces with a gigundo lightning bolt. Because of that, the Twin Blade was unaware of things for a little while. It was the shock, no pun intended, that did it. He recovered eventually and watched the fight as a ghost, seeing Tritoch fly around without wings and fling spells. It'd been mentioned that he was a Wavemaster Admin, so they were all still technically in the deeper end of the shit pool. The funny part was that the guy's sanity really had checked out. The guy wondered why they wouldn't stay dead and...had he forgotten the principles of the game he watched over? They were playing with real lives here, but those lives wouldn't extinguish if some of the damn party remained. Somewhere in the interim, Canti had been recycled and he was alive again. Didn't see the one that did it. Still a good thing, though. He let recovery be gradual because Tritoch had the habit of forgetting about anyone that he wasn't currently engaged with. And that was where the fun started, as his FM screen blinked at him.)

Canti: Huh?
To: Canti
From: Talal
Subject: Grounding

Not sure what your attack thoughts are, but if any of them involve getting Tritoch back down on the ground using those wings of yours, I’ve got an idea. I’ll be putting a couple of those scrolls you gave me to work if all goes well, so keep your wits about you when/if? you hit ground level.

Are you up to giving it a shot?
(He thought about that a moment. It put a decidedly evil grin on his face.)
TO: Talal
FROM: Canti
SUBJECT: Re - Grounding

I might have an idea that'll work, sure.
(Speed Charming himself again, the Twin Blade watched as Takua took on the Wicked Admin of the West - But he's male! - and threw a freakin' wonderful opportunity in his face. Tritoch was in hover-mode now after that fight, like a foot off the ground, flighty but in a good spot for what he wanted to do. The setup was perfect. And while Demorian was more or less distracting the man, Canti hovered on upward some distance behind Tritoch. He did so quietly in order to get the drop on him. When the Twin Blade moved down towards him, he fired the Spirit Gun of the Darkness Flame at him and followed the shot as swiftly as possible. His wings and speed enhancement allowed a pretty close pursuit...as the shadow bullet found its mark in Tritoch's back. Canti's knives found their own mark in the back of the neck with a pincer attack and body ram that forced him face down on the ground! They actually plowed through the dirt, and the Twin Blade had the time to shout...)

Canti: NOW!!

(...before the Admin reacted. It was hard to recall in what order things happened next. A ball of lightning was flung into his face and there was basically an explosion that threw both of them away from each other. What happened in the meantime was that Talal and Nighthand unleashed their presents, darkness scrolls and a gan scroll. The gan scroll barely grazed its target, but the darkness spells appeared to hit, at least partially. Unfortunately, the explosion that drove the two apart caused this. However, it was a lucky day if you were a winged Twin Blade. Canti wasn't dead. The blast had been the one that Takua tainted, ultimately saving his life because it was lightning laced with darkness, the dark partion not being able to finish him as he was thrown away in critical health condition. Both of them looked to be in bad shape, but upon the realization that he wasn't dead...Canti laughed.)

Canti: Heh heh heh heh heh... Ah ha ha ha ha haaa!

(Suddenly focused, he let off that disturbing laugh as he brought himself to his feet and healed with items. Canti was in that dangerous time where he cannot be caught off guard, his moves that much more honed and efficient. He laughed because it frustrated Tritoch that he couldn't kill them, and now he'd failed to kill the Twin Blade at point-blank range. Basically, he was trying for blow to the man's psyche there. But Canti didn't miss a beat on this one. As soon as he was up on his feet - Tritoch was also getting up - he let loose black fire at him, flamethrower-style, to try and turn the man into a darkness bonfire. By this time, he's started to use his cane as support. Tritoch backpeddled away from the flames as he grabbed a pure lightning ball and molded it like taffy or putty, throwing it like a spear an instant later. The plasma spear penetrated through the flames and separated into a large number of lightning zaps that would converge on Canti in a second. He had only an instant to react and instinct said "UP!". Taking flight, he did all he could to avoid the strikes, which traced him from the ground-level. He dodged the first several, but they got him dead-on after a while, and Canti ghosted once more, falling to the ground in a transparent manner. During this time, Demorian snuck up on the Admin and slashed at him. The two were now fighting each other, and the ghost of Christmas Twin Blade was making gestures to Demorian to resurrect him. He did so, and Canti was instantly right back on Tritoch like a rabid dog, running in from behind and attempting to slit his throat. A bit Sora-esque, but points for style and flanking. Unfortunately, it didn't work. He got jabbed away and then hit on the head with the bastard's cane for good measure.)

*DONK!*

Canti: Ow!

(He tosses in a Permafrost scroll and Demorian reached out to touch and supercharge it before the two of them resume attacking. This super-charged the spell, being Level 3 as is, and was enough of a distraction to allow them to stab into the Admin. Canti's knives were in his back and Demorian's sword was in his side. But now...Tritoch had fireballs in his hands...and the Twin Blade wouldn't have it. Removing his daggers, he reached up under Tritoch's arms at the armpits and put him in an armlock to keep the guy from moving much of anything. Tritoch was caught and began struggling so much that he might've dislocated his own arms. But, not knowing how long this was gonna last, Canti shouted.)

Canti: Plug 'im or konk him out, Dems!

(And...Demorian twisted and spun and a streak of red spurted across Tritoch's throat. He jerked, the tell-tale sound of an arm dislocating heard above all else, before going limp and falling from Canti's grasp. All of the elemental spheres start to evaporate and there was blood seeping into the ground. He wasn't graying, though... That alone made the Twin Blade suspicious. You can never tell, right? And another opportunity like this would never present itself. He thought about the argument between letting opponents live or killing them outright, keeping Sekai firmly in mind. Canti, on the whole, would've preferred this one didn't keep on ticking. He looked over to Demorian.)

Canti: Is he dead?

"If he's not, he's close enough to not matter."

(Canti let him go and hit the ground entirely, giving off a huge sigh of relief as he suddenly felt quite fatigued from this battle. Heero Yuy was still right. Dying hurts like hell. What he failed to mention was that it was also draining on the mental resources. Still, at least they were out of that woods.)

Canti: I don't wanna have to go through that again. Not with him, not like that...

(He looked around the immediate area. At the city, at the guards... The- Oh... Hmmm.)

Canti: We gonna be in any trouble with them?

"Doubtful. We did their job for them."

Canti: Fabulous.

(He let the ex-Marionette go there, heading back to the group now at a leisurely pace. He seemed really frazzled, and suddenly knew exactly how Bruce Willis felt in his movies. Chuckling, Canti only said this as he went somewhere to take a break.)

Canti: Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker...

OOC: Tritoch's down!

Final death-toll on Canti this battle: 10

No need for a spell-sphere count now.

And...probably the first time I've ever used the word "Gigundo" in a post.
I'll have a doozy of a sig later, I swear. It'll reflect ".hack//CODE" an' everything.

Hey look! A profile! It's got items and stats and things! Cool! If it isn't fully up to date, it will be, so don't worry 'bout it.

Re: Captured! Jailbreak of the Century

Nighthand chose to finally sit so Talal did her best to support him so he didn’t just crash and burn to the ground with a thump. Even in a sitting position, he was weak but was able to hold himself upright. The data drain had really affected him badly. Part of her wondered if it was due to the length of time he had spent there in a comatose state, but then the realization hit that he had basically taken the hit straight on at close range. Still, perhaps it could be a combination, but she was more inclined to consider the latter the better bet for the moment. Besides, just because he was a higher leveled player, didn’t necessarily mean he’d been comatose any longer than she had, except for the whole he was already a Freedom Fighter thing before they hit the cell block.

Looking out, some were fighting, like Takua, Baron and Demorian, others like herself, were either playing healing roles, strategic planning, or standing there not sure of what to do. As much as a well oiled machine they appeared to be when everyone was going a hundred and ten percent into the fray of things, there were still moments when they looked rather disconnected as a team.

The Twin Blade watched on as Takua and Baron took turns bashing Tritoch with spells, taking turns dying and subsequently being resurrected with a little help from Sekai it seemed and then bashing the now human formed enemy again. When did Baron get wings? Wow! So many details had just slipped right by her while she was trying to adjust to the new situation. Regardless, Talal felt like she should be there helping her friends, but then again another glance downward and she knew she was in the right place. As much as she wanted to, she couldn’t help everyone at the same time. It was about then that she got the flashmail from Demorian. Reading through it, he had already lost her. His logic didn’t seem very logical to the young girl. Her mouth opened and allowed her confusion to leak out unexpectedly while she shook her head slowly back and forth.

”But, that doesn’t make sense!”

”Oh? What now?”

The Heavy Blade’s tone made it obvious that he hadn’t read the flashmail yet. Her sudden outburst was also a tad embarrassing for the girl sending her from her momentary authorativeness back to a little bit more reserved.

”Oh, umm, Demorian’s flashmail. How can Tritoch be getting damaged if he’s getting stronger? The idea contradict’s itself.”

”Hmm. Probably some sort of limit break, maybe? Less HP, more power.”

Her head shook back and forth some more. How much more was there to this game that really wasn’t a game, which she would have to learn and figure out? Maybe that was her answer. It’s not a normal game so why should she expect the matrix of it to make sense. Desperately she tried to mentally put things into perspective so that her type of logic would work.

”So umm, why doesn’t that work for us? You got damaged pretty good but definitely don’t look any stronger for it?”

Okay so that didn’t exactly come out the way she wanted it to. She sounded like a 1st grader who had just lost her first game of checkers or something.

”No offense.”

It was quick and last minute but hopefully, she had salvaged whatever redeemable properties of her last statement that she could. If his response was any indication, he didn’t seem to have even noticed. Then again, he was still pretty beat looking and noticing the small things probably took too much effort.

”I don’t have that particular ability. Not many of us do. I’m sure someone will eventually though.”

There was another person talking about powers or abilities. Obviously there was something about comatose people here that gave them extra abilities. Talal stood there pondering and remembering those she had run across that were different. Zan, he was the first really different one and then there was Kira. Sekai had tried to explain things but admittedly, the Twin Blade was still very much lost on the subject. Then there was Canti and how he literally turned into a dark flame at times. What she really needed was to sit down with someone or go for a long walk and hope they didn’t mind a game of 20 questions that would probably turn into a heck of a lot more. Takua always seemed to know a lot more than he tended to let on but then again, she was doing her best to give him some space so maybe he wasn’t the logical choice. Not that it mattered really since now wasn’t the time for that long walk or sit down around a blazing camp fire time. Knowing she still didn’t understand and would still have to wait for her answers, Talal just let out a big sigh and tried to turn her thoughts back to the fight.

”Well, looks like we need to get him to use up those new elemental spheres as quick as we can and hope he doesn’t have some other way to create more.”

Just saying the words out loud seemed to give her an idea and she quickly drew up a flashmail.
To: Canti
From: Talal
Subject: Grounding

Not sure what you’re attack thoughts are, but if any of them involve getting Tritoch back down on the ground using those wings of yours, I’ve got an idea. I’ll be putting a couple of those scrolls you gave me to work if all goes well so keep your wits about you when/if? you hit ground level.

Are you up to giving it a shot?
Meanwhile Nighthand, still sitting next to her just shrugged and then winced with the movement; an obvious sign that his health bar may be up but the pain hadn’t gone down.

”Or maybe we just keep hitting him as hard as we can and hope he runs out of HP before we run out of resurrects.”

Canti’s short but to the point reply came just then. He was going to give it a go. Now all she had to do was figure out what she was going to use and wait for the right opportunity to use them. The goal still was to help defeat Tritoch without attracting his attention towards the recouping Heavy Blade next to her. There wasn’t much she could do to protect him from a spell other than step in front of it, which if it came down to it, she would. She offered the man a Mage’s Soul to help his SP climb a little faster. It wasn’t much but he didn’t seem to need much else that she could provide other than time to heal.

”Agreed.”

She took out one of the Dark Traitor scrolls that Canti had given her as well as the highest leveled scroll she had in her arsenal. Hopefully, it would help. Then a thought struck that maybe if the two of them were to bombard Tritoch at the same time, but wait…that would attract attention…wouldn’t it? Nah, not if they timed it right. Tritoch might not be able to figure out where the bombardment came from. Anything was better than nothing and a little something extra was always better than anything. She bounced the scrolls in her hand slightly and looked down at the white haired man with a grin on her face.

”Wanna bombard him together and see if we can break him a little?”

”Sure. Can’t hurt more than I already do.”

At that, Talal gave him a sympathetic smile and watched him pull out another scroll.

”Okay, now we just need to wait for the right moment. Keep an eye on Canti, he’s going to try and bring him down for us.”

Watching from afar certainly had its drawbacks. Takua got gut slammed by the more powerful Wavemaster’s wand. Talal was sure her body winced in reaction to what was sure to be a lot of pain on her friends part. What is that called, referred pain? No, that’s not it. Empathy pains, well that at least sounded closer. It didn’t seem to slow him down much though, noted mostly by all the major spells going off in the area.

Canti soared, casted and fought with Tritoch as well, never giving up. She had to give the guy kudos when it came to toughing things out. It almost seemed like he welcomed it all, maybe enjoying it just a little too much. They were all giving a hundred and ten percent to bring this powerful man down and with it, hopefully gain their freedom to enter the town and disappear for awhile and recoup. Canti’s dark flame roared with intensity followed by a well placed blade or two and Tritoch was down. She heard Canti’s yell knowing that was her cue which she was sure Nighthand heard as well but it was just automatic to repeat when coordinating an attack.

”NOW!”

Breaking the seals, first on the Dark Traitor and then she followed it with a Cosmic Truth scroll while Nighthand sent one of his own darkness scrolls. The darkness ones appeared to do the most damage and the Gan one had promise but at the last minute whatever happened during the scuffling match between Canti and the Wavemaster had shoved them almost out of range of the level 3 spell, leaving Tritoch barely grazed by it.

”Damn! That was the strongest of anything I had. Ah well, can’t win ‘em all I guess”

She wasn’t sure if the Heavy Blade was even listening to her but it didn’t really matter. She felt like complaining at the moment; a feeling of being shafted by fate turning in the enemies favor. Just to help subside whatever was churning inside her, she pulled out one of the Ice Storm scrolls and let it fly. It was good for a momentary smile of revenge but that soon faded and left the pair watching and waiting.
Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Walk beside me that we may be as one.

You betrayed me. You gave me powers and told me they’d work, and you got me killed! Tritoch was shouting mentally at the sky. The sword of ice had torn out his throat, ripped deep enough into his neck to nearly sever his head. The pain was gone now. His body was gone. He shouted at the sky.

I did no such thing. You just have no idea how to fight a group of that caliber. You can’t kill one or two of them, the others will bring them back, and you can guarantee they’ll discover your weakness before they run out of resurrections. High, high above the battlefield, the outline of a figure stood in the air, looking down. It watched as the group who had defeated the admin, beat up and broken as they were, began to head into the city.

Your powers didn’t work!

The power I gave you did exactly what you bid it. Your own fear of failure kept you defensively impervious. You simply failed to put the power to use offensively. Instead you burned it off to resume your own mortality, and died because of it.

Use of that work sent Tritoch into a frenzy. Died! No, not yet! NOT YET! You can save me! SAVE ME!

The outline chuckled softly. I will do you one better.

Tritoch smiled, ever so slightly, before his expression turned to horror as he felt his power, his energy, his life begin to burn.

---------------------------------------------

Tritoch was dead. Demorian had nearly decapitated the man with a swift slash, aided by the relentless assault of Canti, Takua, Baron, and the rest of them. Demorian moved away, not bothering to confirm his kill. The former admin would haunt them no more.

Or would he? Demorian shook his head. In the name of the Elites, he had been tasked numerous times to deal with admin infestations. To destroy the police of The World. Always, he ensured the admin investigation was led astray, the evidence they gathered so false and so broken as to cause what gems of truth existed to be discarded with the rest. Never had he done as they wanted, and kidnapped the Knights of War for slavery. Never had he killed them. Oh sure, he had killed their characters, over and over again when he needed. But one like Tritoch, one who was just as stuck in the game as the rest of them… That death would rest heavy.

Takua moved close, to examine the body. Tritoch didn’t breathe, didn’t move. Couldn’t do either, corpse as he was. Why didn’t he gray out, then? Why didn’t he ghost? Was this what happened to one in a coma when they died?

Too late, Takua noticed Tritoch’s wand, falcon-winged and ivory-white, begin to shake. Too late, he tried to move, when the wand stabbed into the dead wavemaster’s body. Too late, he shut his eyes against the glare of three massive elemental shocks, a chain-lightning of Rai, Rue, and Vak. Eyes that closed, and were seared shut forever. Takua’s body slumped to the ground and the lightning carried on. Canti and Demorian, nearby, were struck and knocked instantly unconscious. Talal, Nighthand, Baron, the three some distance away, felt the pain of the shocks and were left injured, but alive. Everyone else, city guards and all, felt the pain as well, but barely lost HP. The power of the final attack was significantly drained, weaker than it should have been.

The guards glanced at each other and whispered a short conversation. Then they nodded, and moved to pick up the unconscious members of the party. One shrugged Takua onto one shoulder and Canti onto the other. The other guard picked up Demorian. Talal supported Nighthand when he stood shakily, crying out.

”Where are you going?”

The guard carrying Demorian nodded towards the city. “A safehouse. You’ll be able to rest there as a group.”

Seeing no other alternative, no Sheena from the wings, Nighthand had no choice but to follow. Out of the wasteland, into the city, between rows of old-brick buildings and high arched gates. Before long, they come across a heavy cinderblock building, not pretty, but sturdy. It was located off a little-used sidestreet, and the door was solid iron. The guards pushed it open and moved inside.

Inside were a few cots, and a few seats, and a few tables. Odds and ends of furniture that had ended up there over the years. There was little to it; just the one room, open space, and furniture. Demorian was laid to rest on one cot, where he stirred and opened his eyes. Canti and Takua were also set down, but only Canti awoke.

Nighthand, able to stand on his own by now, spoke up.

”Demorian. These guys say we’ll be safe here. That true?”

Demorian looked around, rubbed his forehead, and nodded. “Yeah. It’s a safehouse, looks like. We’ll be fine.”

One guard had already left. The other looked around, making sure everyone was there, before nodding and heading for the door. At the entrance, he paused. “There’ll be a bonus coming.” Then he was gone.

A few moments later, Sheena arrived, Nall cradled in her arms. The Blademaster was gaunt and thin, his clothing ragged, but he no longer looked like he was going to die at any moment. He was asleep and unresponsive. Sheena laid him down on a cot in the corner furthest from the door, and dragged a seat next to him to watch over him. Satisfied, she looked at the rest of the group.

”He should be fine now. He just needs rest, as do the rest of you, it seems like. Thankfully, I learned a few things. As long as Nall and I keep a low profile, everyone should be fine. Don’t go tossing our names around though. Rest here, explore if you feel the need. Don’t try to leave the server if you can help it though. We still don’t know what sort of flags we have on us.”

---------------------ooc:

As Sheena says. In the next thread you’ll be able to explore the town. You can post what you want to do and have me respond, or you can script with me what goes on wherever you go. Up to you. No one is likely to recognize you as one of the Freedom Fighters, so you won’t get in trouble unless you try to start trouble. This is where you CAN leave for your sidequests, if you absolutely must. I don’t encourage it, as leaving and returning to Yamiyo will get you noticed and have an effect on the next quest, but it’s up to you and your backstory.

Grades coming soon, and a new thread.
