Jai Chronicles: A story in progress


“My thoughts drift between two realities. When the conscious mind becomes blurred between two planes of existence… how real is the real one? And how fake is the fake one? One thing does not change, however… no matter how many times I cross between them, my emotions are real. No matter how fake this world is, my feelings are real.”
-Jai Heartyre.

Prologue:
Jai Heartyre is a student. He is also an amateur writer and a part-time maid. He has parents who love him, though they only seem to express it through disapproval.
When he first decided to play the world, Jai decided that he would create an on-line personality of the person he would like to become. He had had trouble becoming his ideal self in real life, so this, he thought, would be good practice. “Lighteria”, the name of the planet created by light in one of Jai’s stories, became the personification of Jai’s ideal self.
…sort of. In reality, Jai couldn’t hack it. Lighteria and Jai are still the same person: timid, nervous and emotional. Lighteria is perhaps just a little more extroverted then Jai but this still isn’t saying much. In any case, this emotional, timid, artistic seventeen year old has stepped into The World. People and forces await his arrival…

Conception 1- The Discovery
Lighteria is first cast into the world.
In what is an ironic twist, his introverted nature makes him so nervous around people that he shows more emotions than he hides when dealing with people. This phase is marked by an overall lack of confidence and an extreme phobia of getting to know people. Perfering to head out alone, Lighteria will undertake his first quest that leads him on an emotional rollercoaster of fear, surprise, joy and panic. No one is quite sure if it is fate or not, but a dark-haired wavemistress will end up observing Lighteria's journey and several more to come. It is assumed she is responsible for the annoying glitches Lighteria has occasionally come across.

Conception 2- The Freindship
Out of fear, one naturally clings to something that gives them comfort.
From this fear stemmed Lighteria's attachment to Squall, a white-haired heavyblade with a thing for katanas. Lighteria will begin to grow more confident throughout his time with his heavyblade partner, seeking to emulate Squall's casual, confident attitude. They will quest diligently together and often meet up with resistance from the wavemistress Lighteria had run into earlier and a chance run-in with a poetic long arm at the start of their last quest together. Eventually their freindship will cement into an unbreakable bond. It is around this time Lighteria wishes to procure an angel halo for his character, in hopes it would draw him closer to his ideal self.

Conception 3- The Void
With Squall's help, Lighteria finds himself more confident and soon seeks out his own adventures in special quests and trade center affairs. The partnership of the two players seems unbreakable for a time until one day Squall, by crewl twist of fate, is forced to quit the game, possibly forever. As a parting gift to his freind, Squall leaves Lighteria a gift on the rooftops of Mac Anu, where the two had often come to talk to avoid the crowds. Lighteria heads to the rooftops only to see the passing silouette of a theif logging out of The World with a new item. A heartbroken Lighteria looks to the skies, wanting to give up, only to see an angel soaring in the skys. He follows the figure eventually finding it to be an actual character named Wren. ...He joins the Vanguards of Twilight soon after.

Conception 4- The Conception
Questing with the clan turns out to be less than ideal for Lighteria. Rather than make freinds with the clan memebers, he tended to feel like an outsider as he travelled with them. Still, their open arms and freindly demeanors made him feel at ease and helped him as he fought through constant battles. The wavemistress is appearing less frequently now for some reason. Perhaps she has moved on, or maybe her business with Lighteria concluded. Whatever the case, Lighteria finds himself enjoying his personal freedoms while still greiving for the loss of his freind. He finds himself more active in the trade center when banks arise and he has, what some would say, a bit too much fun with the 'trading booth editor' that he can tinker with in the privacy of his own home. This is a strange transtion for Lighteria. A period of fun and mysterious events within the clan. However, his peace will not last. He has been marked since the beginning to be put to the test. Only the appearence of a new character will give Lighteria the first inklings of a force much greater than him that has been in conception since the day he first logged into The World

Phase 1- The Awakening
Lighteria is re-introduced to the poetic long arm he had met months earlier with Squall. He introduces himself as Rondel, an aspiring poet who seeks to make a name for himself using only the medium of The World. Rondel attaches himself to Lighteria lamprey-like and instantly calls the reluctant twinblade his new best freind, despite Lighteria's less than enthusiastic reaction to this. Along the way, they meet a rude, arrogant twinblade calling himself ShadowStreak, who challenges Lighteria -albeit indirectly- to a race. Rondel accepts the challenge on Lighteria's behalf and Lighteria ends up racing the twinblade through a dark low-level dungeon. Along the way, the wavemistress reveals herself once again. She finally lets her name known to be Raven, Lighteria nearly falls for her semi-goth style outfit and hairstyle. After Raven, somewhat reluctantly encourages Lighteria to win the race, she gates out in disgust. Lighteria goes on to win the race and make freinds with ShadowStreak at the same time. Questions, however, remain abundant about Raven and why she cared.


Phase 2- The Dusk
Wheels are in motion, unseen. The World is preparing for a great arrival...
A mysterious e-mail from a "Nall" flashes on Lighteria's screen. While attempting to save his kitten AI from deletion, he rushes into a battle he may never fully comprehend. With a single attack, he is killed in battle. ...When he is revived, however, something is seriously wrong. Something he doesn't understand. He won't figure out that he has collapsed in his room, unconcious for quite sometime. Perhaps when the fighting dies down he will be able to reflect on the fate encounter...


Phase 3- The Condemnation
Fate has delt the young man a painful lot in The World. He, along with a small group of battle hardened players have become trapped within The World, unable to Log Out. With this horrible realization, Lighteria reverts from his high emotional states to one of reserved introspection. However, afraid to over-think this predicament lest he give into despair, the twinblade attempts to follow this new group wherever they may go, in hopes that their travels will eventually lead him to freedom. This damned fate is not without its rewards though, Kit, through her encounters with twilight, no longer is recognized by the system as a deletable AI. ...And she can talk. Lighteria has also gone through some drastic changes in his character data, but he has yet to realize it. Changes that he will need. ...soon. Because, though no one, not even the people who threw him into this trap, realizes it, this fate of being trapped in the game has expidited a grand scheme to an extent the creators could never have dreamed.
Only time will tell what effects this will ultimately have.


Phase 4- The Inner Power
The mysterious Nall has been revealed as an ex-hacker and the magnitude of Lighteria's being trapped in The World has finally dawned on him. In his dreams, he finds a mysterious place full of distant voices and infinate, white water. When he wakes up, his new powers are on the brink of releasing. It is only until he is on the verge of being slain that he discovers his ability to transform into an elemental aura. With this great power, however, comes limitations and dangers that will undoubtedly reveal themselves over time.


Phase 5- The True Friend
Gaining Squall's final present, a reminder that Lighteria is never alone, the twin blade has gained new perspectives on his situation as well as new powers. With the flamberge in hand, Lighteria continues his journey with a renewed sense of purpose. His travels with Nall become more and more dangerous as they confront enemy and ally alike. They will climb mountains, survive floods, master DDR, witness untold devastation... and maybe even grow a little stronger. His inner power will also reveal its darker aspects, slowly and subtly. It is during this time that a new player emergers onto the scene...


Phase 6- The Valor
Murasmune. A heavy blade. A player who stands tall, proud and overflows with an aura of heroisim. In a curious twist of fate, Lighteria is mistaken for a theif by the powerful player and is forced into a breif skirmish. However, things are quickly set straight by none other than Rondel, the annoying but poetic long arm. Together with ShadowStreak (the actual theif) the four of them set out on a dungeon raid in what Murasmune describes as "The Den of Sorrow". The journey is perilous beyond reason... What awaits them at the end will test even the strongest heart... and the kindest soul.


Phase 7- The Deception
Caught within a war of raw power between Raven the hacker and the Admins of The World, Lighteria and Raven are caught in the middle of a field crash. The data is warped, twisted and maligned in the crash, data breaking down and reformatting at random. ...Though you may assume deletion would be the only result, the human mind... perhaps the spirit is very strong when cornered. Lighteria and Raven are ripped from The World momentarily, essentially logging them both off, and quickly deposits them safely in Mac Anu. Raven's character immediately logs from The World, automatic protocol for a hacker when caught by an admin... Lighteria's character, however, is deposited at the river's edge in Mac Anu... only this time, it's not Jai's mind within. Perhaps it was the illegal code from raven's staff... maybe the admin pushed the deletion program a bit hard... perhaps it's just the chaotic nature of twilight... whatever the reason, Raven now finds her mind trapped within Lighteria's cyber body, confused, frightened and angry. In the meantime, a teenage girl wakes up at her computer desk to a room that's unfamiliar to her in every respect... incuding her body. These two will ultimately need to work together if things are to be set right. ....That is, if they CAN be.

Phase 8- The Apex
Lighteria and Raven have returned to their rightful bodies and Raven's indenity has been revealed. It's perhaps luck that Jai was able to return to the real world once again through Raven's body... if just for a short time. Sadly, his trip will only make The World a more appealing alternative, even if he doesn't realize it. As his powers grow in power and instability, Lighteria will find hints of the tides flowing beneath him. Through his dealings with the elites, he will find little time for himself though; it is only after he finds a spare moment in a root town... A new player will emerge... and the phases will finally complete.

...For now, the story continues.

Lighteria's Pet: Kit (Approved by Gingi- Yay!)

One day in Mac Anu, there was a slight glitch in the programming of the NPC at Elf's Haven (Most likely due to the wide-spread hacking). As a result, the NPC got stuck in an infinite loop and Lighteria ended up in a 25 minute conversation with it. Full Story Here
To apologize for the incovneinence, the admin gave Lighteria a small digital cat to play with until he logged out, at which time it would be deleted. However, unable to bear the thought of the kitten being deleted, Lighteria sent it away into the streets of Mac Anu so it would no longer be part of his property and therefore wouldn't be detected by the delete program when he logged out. ...Why it wasn't found or deleted by the admins after he logged out is a mystery. Was recently effected by hacks in Theda: Beautiful Fated Fallen Angel and gained new abilites.

Kit is a gray tabby kitten. Appoximately 10 inches in length and five inches in height. It's slightly fuzzier than your average kitten, has blue eyes, short whiskers and a white streak on its belly. It's tail is 4 inches long. It's a tiny little thing. It's very, very agile and its magic is powerful to make up for its somewhat weak attack. ...Almost like a twinblade with fast attacks and stong magic to make up for low defense and strength.

Trapped in The World: <Passive> Lighteria no longer is held back by the limitations of using a controller to move his charcacter.

I'm Listening: <Passive> Image Lighteria is able to understand his pet Kit when she speaks only in Mews.

Aura Repression (Level 0): <Not Discovered Yet> Image When striken with a detrimental Player Aura, Lighteria may be able to repress the aura effects at the cost of 2 SP per minute and any SP regeneration.
("Aura Repression" may be upgraded to "Sublimation" at higher levels)

Split (Level 3): Image Lighteria can go into aura form at will. Emotions must be relatively high to allow him to split but it is nearing the point where the need is less intense as spliting is becoming more natural. Near death experiences will still make him split unwillingly. Powerful auras (Angelic and Demonic) are still nearly impossible to split into at this level.
("Split" may be upgraded to "Burst" at higher levels)

Elemental Auras:
Ani Aura: Image Lighteria bursts into dark purple light points, giving off a <Darkness> Aura.

Rue Aura: Image Lighteria bursts into light blue light points, giving off a <Water> Aura.

Vak Aura: Image Lighteria bursts into bright red light points, giving off a <Fire> Aura.

Juk Aura: Image Lighteria bursts into dark green light points, giving off a <Wood> Aura.

Elevated Auras :
Elevated Auras do not conform to normal elements as we know them, instead they are formed from basis of a person's spirit and personality. Splitting into these auras only occurs in situations where the mind is of pure thought and not influenced by the need for elements. As they are not truly part of the game, they are unstable and exhibit strange qualities.
The Angelic Aura was formed from one of Lighteria's near death experiences where his last thought was to save his friends, since there was no living witness to the split, Lighteria is not fully aware of its existence.
The Demonic Aura was formed by accident when Raven was in Lighteria's body and split into the aura with a clear mind. It has since become part of Lighteria's data, though he is totally unaware of its existence.
Angelic Aura: Image Lighteria bursts into shimmering pink light points. This aura enhances Healing Abilities from anywhere between 50 to 200% depending on how many orbs are around the caster. In addition, anyone, friend or foe, who enters this aura will regen HP and SP at four times their natural rate. Dead players in this aura have a very small chance of being resurrected while within this radius. <This aura cannot be used consciously>

Demonic Aura: Image
Lighteria bursts into pulsing maroon light points. This aura enhances negative status effects that are cast or currently effecting anyone within the aura. Depending on the strength of the aura, status effects will have an almost guarenteed chance to affect their target, in addition, characters that are normally immune to such effects will have a small chance to be affected as well. Status effects will also become much more potent nearly doubling their duration and potency depending on the aura's strength. There is a very small chance that the aura will inflict a random, un-resistable status effect on anyone within its radius. <This aura cannot be used consciously>

Soft Lights(Level 1): <Passive>Image Each orb has 5 HP, 0 Pdef, 0 Mdef the Null <opposite element> the Null <element> ability.
Dispell Level: 1/5 Lighteria's magic power.

Focus (Level 3): <Passive>Image Lighteria has moderate control over the orbs. Aura is guided by a combination of Lighteria's thoughts and the natural will of the element. With consentration, Lighteria may be able to move the orbs closer together or further apart.
("Focus" may be upgraded to "Control" at higher levels)

Reformation (Level 5): Image Lighteria may reform himself after 15-30 seconds of concentration.
(Battle Reformation)
No more than 10% of the orbs may die during the above process.

Shock (Level 1): Image Orbs give off 1 HP damage of the corresponding elemental when they impact with an enemy.

Possession (Level 2): Image Orbs may enter a monster or a player's body if there is no resistance for 15 seconds. May also enter a weapon.

Infuse Life (Level 1): Image If 10 or more orbs have used <Possession> on a dead player or monster the orbs may sacrifice their HP to bring the possessed being back to life with a little HP, the more orbs over 10 that sacrifice, the more HP the person will have. (10 HP per orb over 9)

Broken Thoughts (Level 1): <Passive> Image Anyone under the effects of <Possession> will have the thoughts of the orbs within them projected into their own thoughts. Thoughts may be blocked with enough concentration. Lighteria cannot block the thoughts himself.
("Broken Thoughts" may be upgraded to "Communication" at higher levels)

Imbue Weapon (Level 1): Image Lighteria may possess the flamberge to create a very strong fire weapon.
The weapon gains a veil of flames around the blade, enabling it to have an "Aftershock" effect as the flames will hang in the air for a moment after the blade is swung. Corresponding elemental skills (the flamberge has none currently) will be boosted greatly and have powerful, extra effects depending on the user's skill. Burns and flame eruptions may be among these effects. However, if the user should this power consciously, it will put a drain on his or her SP. In addition, the flames are impossible to control. Should the weapon be boosted further, the magic may rage out of control and destroy indescriminantly (save the user).

Flamberge (Common): Image The Flamberge is a level 3 heavy blade that Lighteria's friend used before he quit. He gave it to Lighteria as a gift. It has no special qualities apart from its sentimental value.

Staff of the Dark Moon (Uncommon): Image
The Staff of the Dark Moon is a staff used by the wavemistress Raven. It is used as a focal point to channel spells for her and her alone. It has no stats. This was transfered to his inventory during a server crash.


Spirit Auras:
Lighteria has the ability to split into dozens and dozens of tiny points of light, each one infused with an element. These light points give off an aura of that element that boosts that element's attack for everyone (enemies included) within the aura's effect radius. Also, the powers of the opposite element in the aura are diminished such that a powerful spell will hurt for less and very weak spells (depending on the strength of the caster, say a normal magic user at 1/5 his level) will simply dissipate within the aura.

Each light point has 5 HP derived from Lighteria's max HP. So the more HP he has, the more points he can split into, increasing the radius of the aura.

WARNING: Image Though the light points can't be hurt by the element they're blocking out or the element they're boosting, physical attacks or any other element will pretty much slay them instantly due to their low HP total and 0 defense, turning them into dead, black, pulsating dots; floating around aimlessly.

The aura can be weakened in this way and it takes away that much of Lighteria's HP when he manages to reform. Any HP lost from orb death cannot be healed for five minutes, regardless of how long he stayed in aura form. If all of the light points are killed, he instantly reforms as a dead player, pulsating black, unable to be revived for a set amount of time depending on how long he was in aura form, approximately 1 minute for every five minutes spent in aura form. Also, if one of the light points is contained within something it can't escape from and permenantly seperated from the other light points, he can not reform until it is freed, in this way, the non-revive period can be extended greatly by not allowing Lighteria to reform and killing off the light points at whoever's leisure. Also, spliting ones conciousness into dozens points of light is rather difficult, making control over the light points very hard. So normally the lights pretty much just float at random and pulsate elemental waves, guided only by a vauge will that they will follow infrequently.

In addition, overuse of spirit auras will have very bad side effects. The following chart tracks the effects:
