Tokki breathed a sigh of relief that could have undoubtedly been heard above ground. The last thing the long arm wanted to ever do was face off against Rayo-- one of the first players she had met in The World back in the Guardians of the Free World. Back then he could control lightning. Now, since he has been infected by the twilight, and undoubtedly changed insurmountably in skill-- her assessment of his ability, she fears, is rather... incomplete. It would be simply dreadful for her to have to find out his true abilities by becoming his target. Instead, they were back together. Same team. Comrades. Just like old times. Perhaps it was the possibility of having to face off against her old clansmate that reminded the girl of some of the first quests she had ever went on with he, Wanderer, Zavier, Ruri, and Vera. They had meshed well. Tokki chuckled inwardly. Remembering Rayo's feelings towards Ruri. Vera's... strange feelings towards Tokki herself. Zavier's feelings...

Tokki shook her head, staving off those memories-- some hurtful, some unwanted. Trying harder to focus on the more cordial reminiscences, an idea filled her head. Immediately, she sought to carry it out. In the past, the Guardians of the Free World had shown an uncanny ability to work together. Often understanding each others intentions without even having to hear them spoken aloud. Furthermore, she had always thought Rayo to be one of the smartest in the clan, and put all of her money on these speculations with her next move. Tokki focused her ability, calling forth the humidity and scarse, scattered particles of liquid located around the room to the void between her two palms. Eventually, the liquid formed a large quantity of floating ice kunai that would once again be Tokki's attack. However this time it would be a bit different from before.

With a subtle flick of her wrist, the kunai plunged forth in a staggered formation towards the large red eye of the monster. They pegged lightly around the eye, creating a small circle around it-- highlighting the target for Tokki's calculated attack. Soon the ice from each kunai stretched and came together at the center right above the pupil.

"TCHHH!!!" Tokki chucked forth the mistglaive at the center of the beasts eye where the ice met-- and the ice froze around it's tip. In almost no time at all, there was a large metal rod jutting out from an icy holster that encircled the large beasts eye. This was all the signal Rayo needed. As Tokki suspected, the target would be all too tempting for the lightning mage to resist, and immediately Tokki coiuld see the Rai Kruz converging around the metal shaft that would conduct the magical energy. As the lightning surged headlong through the mistglaive, the force shot the weapon forth towards the gigantic eyeballs center. Unwilling to lose her pride and joy, the blue-haired queen of ice made sure to keep a strong fix on the water of the mistglaive, preparing to return it to her palm at any feeling of uneasiness about the condition of her polearm. Hopefully, her plans would free them of this beasts clutches-- or at least do some damage to what seems to be one of the toughest opponents she's faced in quests thus far.

The level four thunder spell was for naught, dealing less damage than a physical attack aided by a wand would have done. Was it immune to magic in general, just thunder, or something else? There was a battle fought once alongside Armina where their opponents were shielded from varying elements, working by a rotational system. The snake had coiled further though, before the strike had landed, did it simply react fast enough to counter the spell? No, it began moving as he did, but before the wavemaster would have been able to specify the spell alignment. Could it have been from the deks…perhaps. The Dek Raio would have suggested the sudden approach of lightning, but that theory couldn’t be panned out completely without a water spell. If Dek Ruem also initiated a reaction, then it would decide things. Yet the time delay between the two might be too great; there was no way to tell for now. The mage would simply try not to make things too clear on what it planned to do.

The wizard began to scan his ability lists, trying to figure out a proper strategy after the failure of lightning. There wasn’t a chance, as his mind felt a block between him and his commands. Like an invisible wall, his character couldn’t be reached. The Great Elite was rising towards the ceiling, his body preparing to perform an action all on it’s own. Miu Lei? Ranki Lei? Was Auth targeted by one of those spells? There were others which prevented movement, but only those two allowed for uncontrolled movement and could block his access to parts of his character. Basically, the AI confusion system had uncontested viewing of his abilities, not the player. The motions…was it going to summon? Probably, his estimates only placed his SP at about 70 points, but that was enough for a Lanceor Ch, something that would wreak havoc for the team. Zhao wouldn’t have a chance to survive it, and at least someone else would get picked off as well. No one else had a solid thunder stat, nor were there any other magic defense inclined classes.

Fortunately, his worries ended with a simple Rip Synk, courtesy of the only gravity oriented player in the game, as far as the previously charmed player knew at least. Just in time as well…both the damage to his team and to his magical reserves would have been bothersome. At the same time, Phoenix’s decision would make it easier to keep the charming to a minimum. Through whatever glitch, bug, or perhaps ‘twilight ability’ as Rayo was beginning to suspect, the incantation was now his to control as well. Between that the pair of Ap spells used by Nighthand only a little while ago, his own spell list was continuing to grow at an outstanding rate.

Now…the trick to handling the snake might be in forcing a mistake on it’s part. If a Dek or Ap as able to warn it, why not use it to trick it into using the wrong defense, assuming it was based on elements. But if so…

His thoughts failed to complete, as an action taken by the nearby long arm signified a different sort of move. Kunais layering the perimeter, a spear with characteristics of water piercing straight into the center. If there was ever a calling to say ‘lightning rod’, this was it. Holding himself back, the caster resisted the urge, if only to avoid possibly warning the serpent…again.

With a quick tap of his wand, a minimal use of the element was deemed appropriate. The Rai Kruz converged at the base of the pole, being channeled by the aquatic surface and traveling through the length of it. Did this count as a physical or magical attack? Hmm…maybe like those sword magics from that old game Auth had read about, back when he was deciding on his class for The World. If so, granting the physical attack a thunder attribute would work wonderfully, if the mechanics did so allow. Even if the Ruem style was being countered, Ruem of Rai was a new blend.

Waiting long enough for Tokki to pull back the staff if she needed to, his own strategy began to flesh out. Multiple Dek Raios were sometimes used to ensure that the immunity to the element was gone, so the beast might not find it too odd that the wizard was casting it again. Then if the drop type darkness spell was used…wait…no. Despite the lack of success with his favored element, darkness would still probably help it recover health, or at least do nothing. Furthermore…it was darkness. Such spells should not have to be used. No, why even work with the conflicting element? That in and of itself might be predictable, but there was a different spell which varied across the planes of magic, by both element and style. It would also pierce the bodily defense the one eyed snake was using to shield the obelisk.

“Dek Raio!”

Rayo switched weapons, first to the Expert Wand, then to the Apocalypse Rod, and then finally to Gaia’s Staff. It would be a shame if it picked up on his elemental change based off of his weapon. Pointing up, the wavemaster signaled not where his spell would be coming from, but where it would go.

“GiGan Zot!”

It wouldn’t necessarily be visible from his position, but the pillars of earth should be able to get around the ceiling climber to get at the obelisk by coming directly underneath it. Hopefully there would be some sign to signify whether or not it did any damage.

First a blaze of fire, then a rapid series of water and lightning impacted the eye of the great beast, and for the first time in the battle, the attacks seemed to have an effect. Letting out a hiss of pain, the serpent closed it's single lid on the attacks; effectively cutting off the finale, the lightning move. Poor Rayo would be disappointed, perhaps...

This was not to say that what followed would be any better. While the attacks on it's eye seemed to affect it, they also seemed to do little more damage than the previous spell had. His earthen spell rose inside the serpent's thick coils, the only signal that it had even activated was a pair of dull thuds shaking the cavern floor.

Still, this seemed to have much greater effect than the attacks on the snake itself. Eye still closed, head now thrashing back and forth in pain, it's great body managed to impact with the retreating Phoenix. The blademaster wouldn't be killed, but close enough.

The longer-ranged fighters were another story, however. Being much further away, they became more focused on tactics than they were on other, perhaps more urgent needs. Tokki, busy recalling her favored spear to her side, had the excuse to miss the signals, but Rayo had only an elaborate spell list to occupy his senses; how he had missed the initiation, unknown. The Serpent itself was enraged, more so now than before, and as it's great echoed roar filled the cavern again, other things filled it as well.

It's memory was good enough to target the places where Rayo and Tokki still stood. Rayo found himself in the center of a pair of quickly-cast MeAni Kruz spells, while Tokki's preference for water awarded her with an equally-rapid cast of BiVak Rom. Level two spells across the board, and for wielders of their elemental opposites, perhaps deadly.

The snake didn't stop there, however. While no one else had directly attacked it yet, it knew there were others about, and proceeded to cast randomly about the cavern. Lower-powered, level one Vak Roms, for the most part. Whether anyone was hit or not, it didn't know.

Slowly, as the pain subsided, it's eyelid raised itself once more. Complete with sight, it's small mind rationalized the pain as unexpected; moreso than damaging. Still, it was a chunk from it's HP, and something would have to be done.

Another hissing filled the air, and the snake was enveloped in a blue-green tint, fading in and out. Snake and Obelisk, together. Not a Repth spell, no, and not the standard regeneration spell; it was regeneration, but two variables changed. The pulses of healing were greater, but they came less often.

Still, the serpent was far from dead, and the group would have a long way to go if that was all they could pull together to do.

The sparks of negative energy swarmed him, pulling the wave master off the ground and depositing him…somewhere else. Once his eyes focused, it was clear that this wasn’t his starting point, but a good bit away from where he had been. Definitely out of the range of his teammates for sharing spell effects, which was a shame since his HP was screaming ‘heal!’ after being beaten up by the darkness spell duo. A quick Ol Repth handled that issue, but his body was still rejecting the burns inflicted from the defiling element. Ani, the style opposing his own of Rai was being used against him. If it wasn’t for his Gaia’s Staff, it might have been his end. His Great Elite would have resulted in such a low dark score that just the pair could have been fatal. Dying this early just wasn’t welcome, not while being trapped in a cave. Who wanted to die in a dark cave against a nothing snake? Okay, it wasn’t a nothing…but it wasn’t even alive. This wasn’t one of the Elites they needed to defeat, or even some legendary player. This was a mix of data set to guard something equivalent to a cell phone tower, and possibly just a dead end near said cell phone tower. That promoted the serpent to the level of road kill, and it was their duty not to be the chew toys for road kill. That would be a really pathetic fate…

The mage brushed himself off, getting up enough to fall backwards into a sitting position. The less the caster moved up, the less of a chance for the slithering menace to notice his lungs were still functional. Sure, by the time the next spell came that vindictive eye would be centered on him anyway…but one could delay that process. Besides, the others were probably doing something both highly productive and effective that the wizard couldn’t bother turning to his left to witness. Putting more damage on this thing was part of his job…killing it outright couldn’t be tried with the SP he was working off of.

The real question concerned what to target. The snake, the obelisk, the eye of the snake, or something else? The lightning mage still liked the idea of going after the beast that was being protected, since it wouldn’t be guarded meaninglessly, right? If there was purpose enough to shield it from them, there was plenty of reason to find ways around the snake.

Letting his current staff rest on the ground, the summoner simply placed a hand on it, channeling his thoughts above the soil. A summon probably couldn’t materialize inside of a creature, but there would be a certain amount of room between the two to exploit, and the GiGan Zot had created a small zone of earth beneath the enemies. That gap would allow for a close range assault, and there was a beast ready to be used for such a task. Between already knowing the position and given Yarthkin’s relationship with the earth it would be appearing between, it was the only obvious choice for this sort of plan. Still, his SP only hovered over 40, not enough for even one decent attack. Rayo broke down and chugged a Mage’s Soul. Unlike the bad taste many claimed the Health Drink and series of bloods possessed, the wizard noticed none of this with the soul. It replenished him and made the caster whole again, a truly wondrous item.

Whispering his name, Yarthkins came forth, but not from a spot anyone could witness. Taking the form of a mole, the mammal emerged from the earth right beneath the Obelisk, striking instantly. Immediately after the first expired, a second duplicate summoning process took place. Earth wasn’t the sorcerer’s strong suit, but using the ground based weapon that elemental stat was still twenty-eight points high.

Auth remained low to the ground, primarily wishing that the snake would pass over him in favor of the moving targets. Yet, if any spells began to pop up around him, Rayo would definitely switch to the most appropriate elemental choice and try to get out of the blast radius this time. Getting hit after each spell barrage was taking a toll on his ability to do anything.

Biding her time until something happened to distract the snake, Hijinx saw the opening rayo made as a grand opportunity to use teamwork similar to what Tokki and the lightning mage had done. Her method, on the other hand, was slightly different. Charging up behind Nighthand, she ducked low and grabbed for his leg, catching him in an iron grip just above the ankle. Not allowing him a chance to question her action, she pulled hard, swinging the heavyblade in a wide arc parallel to the floor as she jumped towards the beastie's head and spun herself hard to the side.

"Gyah!"

"Serpent Slasher!"

The arc of her ally shifted with her, turning him vertical violently as she shifted behind him. Hijinx's swing had turned Nighthand into a weapon, something he responded to better than she had hoped. His speed flew into the strength stat as the blade came up to strike,a Juk Smash slamming hard into the face of the enemy and forcing it to rear back with the blow. Cheering wildly with the momentary success, the fist fighter didn't mind too horribly when the adversary hissed loudly and pushed back, sending them flipping head over heels backwards. Releasing her grip on her ally's leg sent Hijinx soaring more up than back, while Nighthand skidded to a stop on his back. Sword in hand, he attempted to stand, only to be stopped as the former rabbit managed to fall on top of him.

The fight raged on, and though we had damaged the snake somewhat, it was easy to tell we were just scratching the surface of what this fight would entail. As the snake began to regenerate, plans flew through my head, each one no less useless than the last. However, when I noticed Earth spells, presumably from Rayo, striking the beast, I knew i could at least be of some use.

"Dek Ganz!"

The snake was now weak to Earth, Water, and Lightning, leaving me several options of how to attack most effectively, though none of them physical. Water and Lightning don't require me to switch gear... and I've got more water than lightning... alright. Water it is.

"Rue Kruz! Rue Kruz! Rue Kruz!"

After letting the trio of spells fly, I began to move as quickly as possible. Now that I was finally taking action, I had to present a moving target... since that thing could probably obliterate me in one quick shot. I had nearly been struck earlier, when it had been flinging spells about randomly; the only reason I was still standing was because I had managed to roll out of the way.

I looked around, seeking something to hide behind... and instead saw a reason to remain in the open. Rayo was hiding, nearly dead, trying to cast spells without being noticed. It had been him who summoned Yarthkins, and it was most likely he who could continue to deal the most damage. And so my purpose in the battle changed.

"Hey, Snakey! Come and get me! Rue Kruz!"

I flung my fourth spell along with my taunt, and then continued to move. Maybe, if I could just give Rayo time, he could do something to save us all.

I could only hope so.

Tokki's eyes widened in horror. The fear that encased her mind and frail, scantily defended body was unimaginable. She hadn't felt the terrifyingly brutal pain of a connected fire attack since she fought that long arm in a tournament duel long ago. Her weapon returned, but her legs refused to move. Everything was happening in slow motion, and she could not get her feet to pick up and go. Flames formed in wisps around her slender frame, and a choked cry escaped purple lips before a column of ice pushed her high into the air to try and somehow escape the field of the deadly BiVak Rom that threatened to singe away at health points until there was nothing left. Tears formed in her eyes, and her free hand grasped for the ceiling of the cavernous room with a level of desperation and all around fear that never had been seen before in the blue-haired girl. But it was too late for any maneuver to save her from the pain. Wisps and balls of fire began to slam into her from either side. Her screams were magnified ten fold from the top of the room. Ribs. Kidneys. Neck. Face. Stomach. Legs. No. I can't take it. I'll fight it. I'LL FIGHT IT.

Her eyes were filled with tears, but the glow was unmistakeable. Soon, some of the fire was being dispersed as it came at her. She flung blast after blast of cold water at the flames coming at her body. But each time one of them slipped past her defenses, the scream that ensued was bloodcurdling. It seemed like the attack went on forever. Eventually, it did stop, however, and the beaten, burned Tokki simply stopped. No more defending. No more screaming. Just... falling.

Tokki's health points sat at three, and the ensuing fall would have taken the remainder. Her ability had other plans; as if it were an extention of the thoughts in her head that she herself could not act out, an arm of water surged forth from seemingly nowhere and formed a hand which caught her in mid air and brought her to the floor softly. Her battered body no longer would move. She didn't think she'd want to if she could move it. Feeling her skin stretching and shrinking from the motions of moving was highly undesireable. Instead, she would have to lie in one place and protect herself with her mind. Helpless. She'd never felt so helpless.

Then Tokki blinked. Then once more. For some reason, she thought maybe she had hallucinated for a moment. In fact, she tried to convince herself she had until her eyes assured that was impossible. The long arm had indeed heard a teammate of hers cast three Rue Kruz in succession-- and then another shortly afterwards. The water magic surged forth in the room, surrounding the gigantic monster in preparation for attack. And without hesitation, Tokki, lying idle after the last counter attack nearly killed her and driven her to the point of insanity, she begun pouring all of her rage into magnifying and molding the Rue Kruz into the most lethal attack she had ever built. Those eyes began to glow cerulean once more, and the Rue Kruz before her comrades began to change shape amidst them all. Each side of the Kruz joined together as a large, four-sided coffin with gigantic spikes of ice lining the insides.

And just before the shut upon the gigantic snake with the most sickening of sounds, Tokki's body moved with the only part of her body that could accomplish it. Her lips.

"Die...."

So much force... So much power, brought to bear upon the great black beast guarding the cave. Such a concerted attack from the whole group was unprecedented, and yet, for all that the attacks happened in the same few moments, they hadn't been planned as such. The appearance of teamwork without the teamwork itself.

The Serpent knew something was amiss as the spell was being cast. It was smarter than they seemed to give it credit for, but that was fine... Playing dumb to lure in prey was a wonderful tactic. Still, Yarthkins wasn't noticed until it was too late to stop the spell. The mole rose up inside the barrier the snake's body created, detonating in a fury of elemental force.

Hissing in pain and rage, the beast barely had time to move before the second attack struck. Two players, one with a sword and the other using the first AS a sword, crashed into it's head. The blow jarred it's body, but a quick reaction flung the pair of players away.

Shaking it's head in a fury, the snake was caught unawares as a series of water spells crashed around it. Great chunks of ice slammed into it's body, even further boosting it's rage.

Before the mist even began to clear, the fourth spell appeared, changed, and struck. Somehow, enough ice and water had been scrounged from the environment and the fading spells to box the massive creature in, promising much in the way of damage. The coffin sealed, and for a moment, the cavern was silent.

Unfortunately, it didn't stay silent for long. The room was filled with the familiar hissing that signaled the life of the snake, and the shriek that told them all it was enraged. The inside of the icy coffin shook as the snake pounded it, both with it's own body and it's spells. A muffled crack resounded through the room, then another, and then the coffin shattered. Chunks of ice and water flew everywhere, dissipating as the spell that powered them finally faded.

The snake's eye was closed again, it's face still moist with the ice that had melted over it during the pounding. As before when it's eye was closed, it began to cast spells at random; targeting nothing. Vak Roms, Gan Dons, and Ani Zots erupted around the cavern. Whether anyone was hurt or not, it didn't know, nor care.

Finally it shook it's head in fury, the last of the water clearing from it's face. It's great eye opened once more, and it took stock of the situation. One thing the snake had, was a memory. It knew who had attacked it, from their styles. The summon could only have come from the fallen wavemaster, though the man seemed unconscious or dead. Passing him over for the moment, the creature focused on the two who had caused such a headache; the fist fighter and heavy blade duo who still sat together.

Its eye focused on Hijinx and Nighthand. Unlike the wavering trance-like gaze it had focused on Rayo earlier, however, this one was filled with fury. The pair were helpless before the snake and it made them know it; they found themselves affected by the Paralyze status effect.

That threat removed for the moment, the snake sought it's next victim. The twin blade that had thought himself the brave decoy. Very well.... decoy, and martyr, he shall be. Uncoiling itself for the first time from the obelisk, though letting most of its body still protect it, the snake took matters into its own fangs. Fangs that sunk deep in the twinblade, dealing a good amount of damage, and leaving the player poisoned. A toss of it's head, and the twinblade was thrown aside, to fend for himself.

The snake looked around for the last it had been hurt by, the one who controlled the water and ice. It found that it's job had already been done; one of the stray spells it had cast while blind had removed the very few hit points she had left.

Satisfied with itself for the moment, the serpent moved again, once more coiling itself around the obelisk. The pillar's soothing touch of regeneration pulsed again. The group would have to do better than that, if they wished to take it down.

It was more of a feeling than anything else, but Yarthkins had felt like it had been productive. The route of the soil might have very well been the most useful type of attacks to continue using. Yet, this boss seemed to be able to pick up on patterns and counter them, so using another earth spell would not be a good idea. Wait a bit and use it when the timing was right. Unfortunately, there were a limited number of options to choose from for alternatives. Neither thunder nor fire possessed the style of Zot, and the only reason the earthly summon seemed wise was due to it’s elemental affinity. The wood grouping had Zot but that wasn’t available to him. No…only the unthinkable option remained.

The wave master snapped out of his planning as a large piece of earth dropped inches from his head. Either the ceiling was caving in or a Gan Don had nearly hit. Glancing around, the burst of spells filled the cavern, and all were directed away from the serpent. Not wanting to break his cover, the mage stayed perfectly still as a small portion of a Vak Rom burned him. He was almost outside of the perimeter, but not quite enough. Pain…one function of the greater World experience that should have been dropped after his beta run. Taking a peak, it became clear the snake wasn’t even facing his way, so the spell caster rolled to the side, quickly stomping out the fire that given enough time might consume his favorite, and only, cloak. As soon as the Vak Rom fully expired, he dove back down and waited. pretending to be disabled. Surely the burn marks would help his case.

Soon enough, the spells stopping shooting forth, finally ending with an Ani Zot that was harmlessly kicking up rubble a good dozen meters to his side. The slithering foe open it’s massive eye once more, glaring at them all it would seem. As if the last barrage wasn’t enough, another round of magic was released. Both Hijinx and Nighthand were frozen in place, paralyzed and rather disabled for a bit. For the moment, they were as good as dead since they could hardly recover themselves. Tokki…well, the lone female long arm of the squad was literally dead, a pale reflection of a breathing creature. Zhao was now injured and poisoned…but he’d live and could heal himself anytime now.

Sadly, Rayo was the only mage present, so it fell to him to right the group back up. After all, it’d be horrible for them all to be wiped out…this was after all, just the AI boss meant to slow them or kill them if they were stupid. The wave master pulled out a pair of antidotes and activated them both, freeing up the immobile pair of warriors. Gesturing quickly, a Rip Maen was next on the list, draining just under half of his total SP remaining. Nighthand, Hijinx, and Tokki would now all be able to help deal with the boss once more.

Finally, it became time to do something incredibly wrong, so entrenched in his psyche as a bad thing that only their humiliation at not having already finished the beast off could make him do. His hand was forced however, and the Apocalypse Rod was withdrawn, and it’s least powerful spell initiated.

“MeAni Zot…”

Flipping over to his stomach, the mage pushed off and ran back in the direction of the melee fighters. It was time to regroup, the last batch of commands should definitely have drawn the attention of the beast…again. The darkness spell would follow a path similar to the GiGan Zot and twin Yarthkins summons, but the elemental swap should still throw off the monster. Who knew…it’s exterior design might even be made to resemble the dark to trick people into not casting such spells against it.

The poison crept through my body, adding a stinging accent to my already severe wounds. It slowly took its toll on me, and by the time I managed to pick myself up off the ground, it had eaten me down to a dangerously low health total. Quaffing an Antidote to stop the degredation, I followed it up with a pair of Health Drinks for a chaser. The cocktail left me feeling infinitely better, and I decided to hop back into the fray. But what to do? Rayo had been attacking the obelisk... could it be that that should have been our target all along?

Well, since your previous attacks didn't seem to do much, why don't you go ahead and give that a shot?

You! How can you still talk to me? I thought... I thought I sealed you away! That we were one mind now!

If that was true, you'd be a lot more violent. You would have gained some of my traits. No, all you did was push me downwards some... though I feel less of an urge to murder people than before. Anyway, stop talking to me and help your friends!

For once, you're giving me good advice.

With that, I rushed the obelisk as fast as I could, ready to attack it full force with my blades. With my current lack of SP, it was the best I could do, and I had to try something! My blades went up, down, across, and back again in my attempt to inflict damage on this hellish beast. I could show no mercy, nor could I slow down even a bit; were I to flinch, I would be dead in a second.

Finally, I hopped back, out of breath, hoping that I had managed to do something to this damned obstacle. I now focused on avoiding the snake, knowing that if we were right about the obelisk being the proper target, it would be seeking revenge soon enough.

The damage blipped above the targets, zero. Neither of the titanic creatures must have been hurt, eliminating darkness as a viable option for the battle. Switching off to a different wand almost immediately, the wizard settled for the first one which he felt while groping around his bag. The Expert Wand became his new choice, with no obscene elemental weaknesses to be exploited.

The wave master paused momentarily once he was back by the rest of the party, taking a breath now that he was no longer isolated. Instead of focusing on another attack, his mind was furiously composing the flash mail that was to be received by the rest of the group. Their efforts weren’t coordinated enough, and the snake was doing more than an adequate job at dishing out the damage and special effects. It wasn’t their real target anyway, was it? The serpent had only appeared once the group was a threat to Obelisk, having already removed it’s scattered devices. There were some definite quakes earlier when the earth elements had touched home against their first target, and the shaking might be indicating some degree of success. As Zhao’s most recent strikes showed so clearly, the Obelisk wasn’t being exposed at all. Anything physical instead was forced to bounce off of the defender first, and the body also seemed to complicate the casting process.

< To Nighthand, Hijinx, Ryok, Zhao Xun, Tokki, and Phoenix,

This beast is doing pretty well at taking our attacks and striking back with something painful. Perhaps we could try a few concentrated barrages? We were going after the Obelisk first…let’s make that our target for now. Still toss out some physicals to keep the monster distracted and disrupted, but magic seems to be the best course of action when it comes to reaching the hidden monster.

Rayo >

His SP was already up to 50, but it wasn’t time to cast anything just yet. Most likely the response to an attack would be a magical backlash. Fire, darkness, and earth elements, as well as both charm and paralysis had been used. There wasn’t too much to do to guard the second set besides active healing, but the first could be countered by an excessive use of both Dek and Ap spells. The earth angle had been handled by the Dek Ganz, but something needed to be done to lessen the damage. Absorbing some of the impact beforehand could help keep them from appearing to be too suicidal.

< Nighthand,

Besides the Ruem and Juka before, do you have the Ap or even Dek spells for fire and darkness? I could probably use those soon…we all could. Tokki didn’t seem to take too well to the blasts of fire earlier.

Rayo >

Fortunately, the heavy blade replied instantly, revealing what he had to help out with. The speed at which this part of the plan was unfolding was perfect. A delay from his initial announcement, but just enough so that the spells might happen in sequence.

< I have fire, but not darkness. Odd, considering my elemental preference… >

< Do you think you could use an Ap Vaks on me then? Not yet...but in once I give the signal. I don't want to tip the beast off before I start blasting it. >

< Will do. In the mean time, I happen to have Rig Saem, if you'd benefit from the regen and want it. >

Rig Saem…it wouldn’t be as favored as an SP regeneration technique, but his health wasn’t quite maxed out, and this would help mitigate the damage from whatever would be coming next. Besides, it’d be added to the list, wouldn’t it? Much like all of the rest, Rig Saem would be his own to cast shortly after receiving it.

< If you can spare the SP, sure. We're both still a little banged up from it's last counterattack. >

Almost as synchronized actions, the short reply came alongside a flow of energy. Some of his fatigue was fading, and in moments his health was completely restored. Short of some overpowered attack, the mage shouldn’t have too much trouble staying alive for the moment. Sure enough, the recovery spell was on his own list, one he’d be ready to use if anyone was hit with anything really bad.

< Okay, fire off the Ap Vaks 20 seconds after receiving this message. >

The spell caster readied himself for his attack, bearing in mind that it would be necessary to make sure the summon would be directed against the proper target. A horse like the last ones would just charge in and get pasted on the snake’s skin. No…what was necessary was a different type of animal, one that would mark off the thought perfectly. What better to ride up from directly the same space as his designated target? As his count reached twenty, he began to say the single word required as the warmth enveloped him, during the first syllable.

“Vulcan.”

It wouldn’t be visible for the party except for the burning red aura that was resonating around the snake, but inside the Obelisk should be cooking. A phoenix materialized, strong wings flapping, to strike at the very core of the tag team, with the goal of scorching the Obelisk. Unlike the last attack, this one seemed much more promising. A piercing screech would fill the room if not dampened by the serpent surrounding it as the legendary bird did took it‘s turn.

Darkness. And falling, lots of it. That's all Tokki remembers before she awoke again in the presence of that foul beast that set her soul ablaze with the most painful flame attacks she'd--- Well, Tokki thought, I haven't been hit too many times period. But if I were to count those few times up, that was definitely the hands down most painful. The girl wobbled to her feet dizzily and ground her teeth together harshly. Her frustration was dripping off of her face; impossible not to detect. But for the moment, and for all intents and purposes, she was running out of ideas with this monster. She had, in complete concentration pulled off probably one of the most vicious attacks her ability had ever mustered-- and it barely scathed the monster. Now it seemed as if she had no more strength to offer in this fight.

FLASHMAIL

End

With no other ideas to speak of, Tokki was no at all hesitant to disagree with Rayo. It seemed worth a shot. Still shaken from the last counterattack the snake had unleashed on her, the long arm hesitated to begin an assault she did not know for sure would work again. That pain was not something she wished to experience twice. This time she would attack with a much more trained subconscious towards defense. Rayo began the assault with a Vulcan that he summoned from within the Obelisk itself. An ingenious technique. However, it seemed it would only be possible with a summon magic skill seeing as though the summoned beast itself is called forth from that particular spot. But for Tokki, it would be a little different. This gave the blue-haired warrior an idea.

Applying a little bit of science, Tokki followed Rayo's superheating attack with a supercoolant of her own, hoping it would disable the obelisk-- which, dependant upon what the object is made of, should make it extremely fragile and halt it's atomic activity at the most finite of levels. As the innards of the obelisk reached it's peak with the extreme heat from the vulcan summon, Tokki begun her skill, GiRueKruz, and inverted it to begin inside the object itself. Quickly thereafter, the obelisk would drop extremely fast in temperature and shards of ice would try to ignore physics and magically form within the shell and try to break forth. Tokki was unsure whether or not the physically damaging portion of the magic spell would work, but she could see with her own two hacked eyes that the cooling process was indeed working. It was up to time to show the Freedom Fighters what the effect of the magical assault brought on by Rayo and Tokki sequentially would do.

getting there....

Post by Nighthand » Mon Aug 28, 2006 11:35 pm

After getting Hijinx off of him, and a well-timed toss to throw the ex-rabbit at the snake as a distraction, Nighthand got Rayo's flashmail. What the airborn Jinx would do, that was her problem. The Bladesmage read the flashmail.

Nighthand thought Rayo's plan was worth an attempt, if for no other reason than there was little else going on that seemed to imply order. For all that they attempted teamwork, they didn't really pull it off too well.

After his Ap Vaks, Nighthand decided to toss in an attack or two of his own. Targeting the Obelisk was no easy task... but it was possible. Rayo had shown it to work with a Zot spell, and with his summons, and Tokki had gotten it to work with a Kruz spell, if only because she inverted it. Well, he could do the same sort of thing.

A second spell was cast from himself, at about the same time Tokki was casting hers. Ap Raio took shape and boosted himself. Nevermind that it might have been reduntant... No harm in recasting it. Unfortunately, the only thunder spell he had from equipment was a Rai Rom... and that wouldn't do.

Fingers flitting along the scroll-pockets where his ammunition was kept, he pulled out one of his many Lightning Bolt scrolls. By now, the snake was reeling from the spells, and it left an opening... Small, but possible, directly above the Obelisk. He activated the scroll and called his powers into being.

Seeing the energy before him, he reached for the spell... but the energy was too fast, too hard to handle (4). Rai was far from the easiest energy for him to control, and unprepared, it was hopeless. The first spell missed, impacting the snake with little hope of dealing damage. Still, there was equally little hope of the creature noticing the first blow, so soon after the previous two, and so he quickly drew and activated the second scroll.

This one, too, came and went too fast for him (6). He only managed to lay a finger on it... but it was better. The spell was more accurate. It struck inside the opening, but whether or not it struck the Obelisk he couldn't say. Still, it was enough that the snake may have noticed... he would only have one more shot at this. His third and, for the moment, final scroll was pulled and released.

This time, it was as if his senses didn't even care to see (4). As if Xenobia's tampering had left him without eyes. The spell was there... He knew it was. He couldn't see it, but maybe he could still reach it... Yes! There it was! He could feel it, poised over the dark mass that represented the snake (9). He couldn't see it, and he couldn't hold it enough to attempt to boost it's power, but he could guide it.

And guide it he did, into the closing gap, to strike home on the already-attacked Obelisk. All that remained was to see what the snake did, and defend himself.

---

The serpent hissed its pain and frustration. The gnat buzzing at it's side was no problem; Zhao was easily ignored as futile. His blades would find no more effect on the snake's scales than they would on a wall of granite. What followed, however, was more than enough to set the snake's cold fury on edge.

The Vulcan spell came and went. The snake's internal surface boiled in the heat, the stone absorbing as much as it could take. The serpent was no stranger to fire, though, having such skills itself. When the water spell struck, the story was different. While it had no immunity to fire, its defense against water was lower. The temperature difference did little, but the elemental change did.

Then came the thunder spells. The first was harmless, bouncing off the creature's scales. The second hit nothing but dirt. But the third... The third was dangerous. The snake's head whipped around to the source of the thunder, and lashed out. Uncoiling a third of its length, the snake slammed its head into the body of the heavyblade, and continued on. They crashed into the wall, shaking dust and rocks from the rooftop. A second smash agains the wall and the snake's attention turned, firing off a series of spells at the remaining members of those attacking it. Zhao was the target of a Gan Don, almost insultingly low in power. Tokki found herself surrounded by a level two Ani Kruz spell, and Rayo was in the center of a level two Vak Rom.

Perhaps now they would think twice of attacking it...

The burning bird did score a bull’s eye, but the result was less satisfying after witnessing the rest of the series of spells. Tokki’s incantation wasn’t the thing drawing his attention, but instead the burst of offensive magic from Nighthand, his own element even. Once the heavy blade finally correct his aim, the beast was twitching and flailing like crazy to avoid additional damage. It even launched itself at the player, leaving quite the indent on the terrain. Then it was true, it wasn’t that thunder itself was a guaranteed failure, but that the body block was the issue. In which case…it was time to die. Given it’s enthusiastic and rushed response, there was no way that Rayo would be able to live through it’s inevitable counterattack. A hopeful thought placed a glance over by Phoenix and Ryok, silently asking for their help to stop the massive onslaught to come, but the wavemaster was ready. BiVak Rom had left a mark, and the only thing lessening the chance of his impending death was his own subtle regeneration. No matter how fast the number blipped over his character however, his health wouldn’t be maxed out before the serpent was on top of him. If he was feeling hopeful, the mage might consider that Nighthand would trap the head away from the body, logically throwing off all it would do. This plan would almost fully devour his SP reserves, but that didn’t matter. Dying would erase the remainder of it almost as quickly, so using it up was the best option available.

Slipping one of his own two remaining Lightning Bolt scrolls, the spell caster positioned himself as he was readying the plan for it’s initiation. His other hand handled elemental boosts, returning the Expert Wand to it’s designated storage position while retrieving the largest thunder boost currently possible. Now the swordsmen, Ryok and Phoenix both, would be in the way of a direct attack. If it attacked from it’s current position, it would pass near the former, while attacking on a straight line from the Obelisk placed the latter in a position to offer help. There were ways to force cooperation in plans, perhaps resulting in an extended life with a lot of luck.

Flipping his arm over, the low leveled scroll went through the process of activation. The parchment took on a glow of pure white, vanishing from existence into hundreds of miniature sparks, barely detectable if it wasn’t for the swarming nature that they took. Above the majority of the enemy’s body, a golden shine materialized, rapidly sending out a bolt of lightning on a slight angle to peg the Obelisk. After all of the time spent training lightning with his previous ability, the most advantageous emergence points became clear even without them. The snake might have assumed that it’s previous counterattack would delay them, but it’s obvious vulnerability couldn’t be covered with that much ease.

Without pause or any thought of possible self defense for what the artificial Rai Don might bring about a need for, the staff was leveled right at the marked appearance point. If the introduction of Vulcan served as any sort of warning lights that the defenses of this beast were being breached by the wizard, then Lanceor would sound a horn capable of bringing down the lair. The loyal wolf, pointy spear like charges jutting out from all over the body, was instantly wrapped around the Obelisk, impaling it with what was intended as electric death.

There was still a bit of water left over from the Rue Kruz, but it’s not as if that would be enough to add on any substantial damage, if any to the summoning. Mere droplets, ineffective as a tool. In a sense, it mirrored their own situation. The lot of them were no more than specks of water in the ocean, yet assumed they could change things. For now, all they could do was force pebbles underneath, hiding from the harshest undersea apparitions.
