Okay, so naptime hadn’t gone well. Baron was awoken from his spell-induced sleep in a manner that he probably would not preferred had he the choice. He was caught in a surge of flames as Tritoch appeared before him, moving with an insane amount of speed back and forth. The man, now transformed back to his human state (when had that happened? Sometime during Baron’s nap?) struck quickly, utterly obliterating the Twin Blade with one of a number of spheres surrounding him. Fire didn’t even burn as it turned flesh to ash in a matter of moments, a pale, forlorn ghost left where a body had once stood. Baron was left dead once more, unable to act upon the more physical world as hell began to break loose. Tritoch jumped back and forth between people, destroying them with various methods, unmistakable cruelness marring his features as he moved back and forth. Even the meteor storm at the end, unfocused and random, was released with a supreme hatred for those below him. Was there no end to this man’s power?
A Resurrect came to Baron shortly after, and suddenly the Twin Blade was fully physical again, his feet pressing against the ruined, blackened earth. Silver eyes roamed across the battlefield even as a Mage’s Soul and Speed Charm were quickly downed. SP was restored to Baron, and his speed was given a powerful lift, putting him back into battling condition. But he knew better than to just charge in right now; the best thing to do was to gauge Tritoch’s new power. Instead of charging in he took the liberty of watching his show of pyrotechnics and whatever other technics ice and lightning were, observing carefully. He observed that each of the elemental orbs that Tritoch used changed the man’s robes to a color that matched the element. The Twin Blade assumed that it was the basis for any of Tritoch’s own spells. It could also indicate some sort of elemental weakness as well, but there was really no way to tell without testing that theory as the chance presented itself. Plus, those orbs could be important too, if they caused the Administrator to change based on what was used…
Suddenly, while Tritoch was distracted by nuking Takua, Baron released a powerful OrmeAni Kruz, black skulls erupting from the sky to strike at one of the glowing Rai orbs. The spell struck easily before Tritoch could do anything, converging onto the glowing orb of plasma… before absorbing it. Sort of. Shadows suddenly danced upon the surface of the orb, the two elemental opposites fusing with each other to form a half-plasma, half-shadow sphere. Baron blinked in surprise; the combination was the last thing he had expected. The boy wasn’t really sure if he had just given Tritoch a new weapon or potentially neutralized it. Whatever the case was, it suddenly looked more ominous now.
Then an idea clicked. Maybe it halved the destructive element of the orbs? It was only half of the element instead of a full one, so maybe multiple elements in the spheres would decrease their power even further. It was an odd train of logic to follow but since Tritoch was still distracted, Baron thought he’d give it a try. A Rue Kruz closed upon the sphere, jags of ice stabbing inwards, but the spell simply passed through with no effect, leaving the Twin Blade with a half-frown. Either his spell hadn’t been deemed “powerful enough” to be absorbed, or the whole thing worked with opposite pairings only. Of the two, he was more likely to go with the latter, so he let the whole orb-bashing thing rest. Of course, this was more because Tritoch had turned and noticed him at this point rather than Baron being bored of experimentation. Definitely a good idea to get moving before he got nuked.
Again.
Spreading his wings again, Baron pushed forward with his feet digging small grooves into the ground. His Ap Do-enhanced speed was astounding, allowing him to close the distance between himself and Tritoch in one burst of speed. His blades were slashed forwards, their edges aimed directly for the Admin’s face. However, the Twin Blade held back on his momentum somewhat; he had seen Tritoch warping around, and in all likeliness he expected the man to dodge. That was why he held back; if needed, he could change directions or keep going right past if the man teleported to one side or the other. What he didn’t anticipate, though, was Tritoch merely stepping aside, his wand coming around suddenly. The wooden staff smacked into the back of Baron’s head, disorienting the Twin Blade for a brief moment as he clutched at the bump that was already forming. Though it was a minor injury and hardly made a dent in his HP bar, it still hurt!
A Gan Rom exploded behind Baron as he moved to cover his retreat. Tritoch was surrounded by a cloud of dust and rock, trying to fan it away from his eyes. The Twin Blade managed to get away from the Admin, pulling a good distance away. However, an idea came to him as he banked, turning to face the overpowered Wavemaster again. Another Gan Rom exploded around the man before Baron dove in again, the dust providing a sort of cover for the boy as he drew in close. The sands whipped at his face but cleared as he approached, leaving him with a wide-open Admin just waiting to be hit. And the Twin Blade was going to make it hurt! Darkness leapt across the short daggers clutched in his gloved hands, the black sheen immediately put to use as Baron’s Swirling Dark went off. He spun as he approached, almost a small cyclone of darkness to contrast the sandstorm from a moment ago.
The first strike hit with ease, the black blades stabbing into flesh as they moved forward. Tritoch sidestepped the next, stumbling back out of the way of the attack. Even as the next one came, a large Vak sphere came around out of nowhere and enveloped the two of them in an explosion that felt roughly like being strapped to a firework as it went off. The only difference was that it was about a hundred times more powerful and only a bland shade of red and orange rather than the more fun purples and neon greens; how boring. Either way, the effect was the same: Baron was set on fire, left to burn for about a half second of insane agony, and subsequently ghosting. As far as flaming deaths went, it hadn’t been a particularly glorious one, but at least it had been quick. He’d have to remember to put a thank-you note on Tritoch’s grave after this. Wait, did The World have graves? Regardless, he was quickly Resurrected, so there was no need for him to go over the details regarding his. They wouldn’t have found the charred remains anyway.
I really don’t understand you anymore… you started out being some depressed, miserable, and withdrawn little nuisance while Libra hijacked your body and ran you around, and now you’re suddenly perky and joking around. Someone inject you with caffeine or something?
Hell if I understand it, but something about being in battle like this is exhilarating… even though it’s no longer a game and it’s a very serious situation, I still feel that thrill as I attack, watching my opponent to try and figure out his moves before he makes them, working hard for a win… it’s just strange like that. I almost feel… I almost feel like this is a game again. But hey, whatever works, right?
There was an almost audible sigh. Whatever, chuckles. Go play, just be sure to kick some ass for the two of us, okay? You screw things over and we’re going to be having some words later. A lot of words.
Baron gave a wide grin, something completely out of place in the serious field of combat. Where around him scowls, set determination, and fear all reigned, his smile was the one that stood out the most. It felt odd, it was like… like a weight had lifted from his shoulders with that one shift to his expression, his lips parting momentarily to speak softly.
“Let’s dance.”
With that, a Mage’s Soul and a Speed Charm were both consumed, just like before. Back up to snuff and with his speed a bit higher than before, the Twin Blade decided to repeat his tactics, since they had gone so well. Of course, he was aiming for a better element of surprise so that he could get more than one hit in. Avoiding ghosting was a bonus too; death tended to be unproductive for the most part, and Baron really didn’t like being unproductive. Things needed to get done, and if he was just sitting there all glum and transparent, he wasn’t going to be able to do that! So another Gan Rom stormed up, more dust filling the air and creating a wall of sorts between him and Tritoch’s line of sight. Immediately making use of his boosted speed, Baron shot forward in a rush of wind, his feet practically flying across the ground as he quickly closed the gap towards his target.
Unfortunately, Tritoch was tired of being nice and waiting for someone to attack him, and instead decided to emerge in his own rush of speed, surprising Baron with the movement. Instantly a Merrows summon went off, the large serpent obscuring the boy’s view of his attacker. It’s completely normal to have your knee-jerk reaction be a summon spell, right? Just because you could level a building when someone startles you with a tap on the shoulder doesn’t make it overkill, does it? Baron certainly hoped not, because otherwise he couldn’t really justify the blast of elemental energy that smote (smited? No, it was smote. That sounded right) Tritoch head-on. Of course, the man charged right through it, completely ignoring the fact that a serpent nearly five times his length and made of pure elemental energy was there. It was a nice brush-off, and he probably had a smug look on his face after he made it through, expecting to find a Twin Blade right there.
Unfortunately, Baron couldn’t tell you, as he had used his Ap Do-enhanced speed to get behind Tritoch while his big serpent stole the attention. In essence, he had vanished from Tritoch’s sight. Using that moment of stealth, the Twin Blade charged in for a direct attack, the Ani element wrapping its dark tendrils around his weapons. This attack was far more powerful than his last, though; as the Twin Darkness went off, Baron hit with a flurry of attacks, a good half-dozen or so easily impacting the Administrator before he warped away with a look of pain on his face. Unfortunately, that warp put him right behind the Twin Blade, leaving Baron wishing he could do that so he wouldn’t have to rely on his Speed Charms for such a maneuver, but in the meantime he had to content himself with being sent flying across the field as the Rai/Ani orb he had made earlier, the electrical impact stunning as he smashed into the ground and bounced a few times. Oops, there went his collarbone. And there went his spine… it took a good four or five bounces before he finally ghosted, bones realigning themselves in his intangible form with ease. Not to mention that he wasn’t alone; apparently jags from that orb had come out, striking and ghosting Demorian while Takua was left at maybe half of his health. Ouch, talk about aftershocks… and that was a bad pun. Aftershocks from a lightning attack.
Another Resurrect came quickly, and Baron nodded to Takua as he landed on his feet, his blades already out and ready to go. A glance at Tritoch revealed that the man’s robes had changed to a yellow, though now his outfit was starting to look particularly ragged. The Administrator was leaning on his staff as well; had Baron’s hit done that well, or was it a result of the orb that he had hijacked? Either way, it was an interesting development, meaning that he was starting to weaken. While making his observations, the Twin Blade had already consumed yet another Speed Charm and Mage’s Soul combo, and was set to go. Unfortunately, it seemed like his sandstorm trick was starting to get redundant and expectable, and Tritoch was probably getting impatient with the repetitive tactics. Such a shame.
In retaliation, a trio of Gan Rom spells went off almost simultaneously, forming a rough triangle around Tritoch and boxing him in while buffeting him with rock- and sand-laced wind. Baron fully expected him to come rushing out of the sand, directly at him again, and had already prepared a Merrows spell. As soon as the Administrator came out of the spell-created storm… well, okay. So he went upwards. That kinda killed the whole plan. How was he supposed to work with that?
Jerk… ruining a perfectly good plan.
Yes, Baron, he’s a jerk because he didn’t go along with his enemy’s plan to destroy him… we should like… cry at him. It’d probably be just as effective as calling him a jerk.
Your sarcasm is so refreshing sometimes, I swear…
Well, time for a change of plans. While Tritoch was still ascending, Baron quickly dove into his own sandstorm. The winds tore at his body, dealing some minor damage, but there was no doubt that the Twin Blade was hidden. Heck, he could barely see Tritoch through the sand, and only because the Administrator was directly above him. That was enough, though, as a night-gripped hand pointed skyward, summoning a horde of powerful black skulls to surround the enemy. The OrmeAni Kruz crashed towards Tritoch, but the man avoided most of it, taking only some of the damage from the final explosion and dodging the bulk of it. While he was dodging, though, Baron came up beneath him, another Ani-based skill erupting from his blades as he drew up towards the Administrator.
“Dark Dance!”
A flurry of slashes came forward, the first two making easy contact as the weapons tore into Tritoch. Unfortunately, the third was dodged, and as the last hit went off Baron found two arms wrapped around his body before both he and Tritoch were plummeting earthwards. He was released maybe a foot or two from the ground as the Administrator leveled out and flew upwards, while the Twin Blade found his neck in a very uncomfortable position. Sort of at a ninety-degrees-from-normal kind of uncomfortable. Fortunately, ghosting came before the numbness wore off, so Baron was just left floating around dead, his ghost hovering in place.
Things were certainly working out well, weren’t they?
