Mine has always been water, it just perfectly fits my personality, hehe. I'm usually a calm and flowing person, but when I get angry I can be very... ahem... dangerous :D lol!
It always seems like one of the most powerful to me ^_^, it quenches fire, makes earth into mud, ice is frozen water for that matter, and though it doesn't do too much to thunder and lightening, it's still my favourite!
